INTRODUCTION We are given an assignment where we have to analyze the movie script based on Grice maxim. I and my partner decide to choose 3D animated cartoon “Ratatouille” and “Frozen” because for us it have easy language and clear voice projection. Beside it’s one of our favorite movies. We are going to scrutinize the maxim whether it’s followed, flouting or being violated during the conversation in the chosen scene script. The source of this text is from movie “Ratatouille” and “Frozen” script, we choose only a part of the scene where we can do the analysis. Grice’s maxim of conversational is purpose by Herbert Paul Grice. He was a British-educated philosopher of language, who spent the final two decades of his career in the United States. Grice maxim are divide into four maxim (maxim of relevant, quality, manner, and quantity). Maxim of quantity consist information (make your contribution as informative as is required for the current purposes of the exchange. Do not make your contribution more informative than is required.) Maxim of quality is telling the truth (do not say what you believe to be false. Do not say that for which you lack adequate evidence.) Maxim of relevance is where the conversation is relevant and consist extra information. Maxim of manner is a clarification (“be perspicuous”. Avoid obscurity of expression. Avoid ambiguity. INTRODUCTION

We are given an assignment where we have to analyze the movie script based on Grice maxim. I and my partner decide to choose 3D animated cartoon Ratatouille and Frozen because for us it have easy language and clear voice projection. Beside its one of our favorite movies. We are going to scrutinize the maxim whether its followed, flouting or being violated during the conversation in the chosen scene script. The source of this text is from movie Ratatouille and Frozen script, we choose only a part of the scene where we can do the analysis.

Grices maxim of conversational is purpose by Herbert Paul Grice. Maxim of manner is a clarification (be perspicuous. Avoid obscurity of expression. Avoid ambiguity. Be brief (avoid unnecessary prolixity) be orderly) (WIKI, n.d.)

BACKGROUND OF FROZEN TEXTFrozen is 2013 American 3D computer-animated musical fantasycomedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. It is the 53rd animated feature in the Walt Disney Animated Classics series. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Snow Queen, the film tells the story of a fearless princess who sets off on an epic journey alongside a rugged iceman, his loyal pet reindeer, and a naive snowman to find her estranged sister, whose icy powers have inadvertently trapped the kingdom in eternal winter (wiki, n.d.).In this movie Frozen, is being surrounded by funny yet energetic characters. The two main characters is Elsa and Anna. Elsa, Princess of Arendelle, possesses cryokinetic powers, with which she is able to produce ice, frost and snow at will meanwhile Anna is Elsa little sister, she is a normal human being that has no power like her sister. This story is about Elsa and Anna who are really close to each other when they were little but they had to be apart when Elsa accidently hurt Anna and then Elsa isolated her own self in her bedroom until their grow up. Eventually after all the hardship they reunite again in the end and this movie have happy ending.

THE PARTICIPANTSElsa the snow queen, is the Princess of Arendelle, possesses cryokinetic powers, with which she is able to produce ice, frost and snow at will and she is the older sister of Anna. Elsas entire existence is this very basic human tale. Shes spent her entire young life hiding, isolated in a room with an intense fear of human contact enforced by less-than-stellar parents whose decision was to lock her away rather than find ways to explore and control her gift. That inner storm may rage more intensely for some than others, but its still an extremely relatable conflict (Izzy, n.d.).Anna is Elsa little sister, she is a normal human being that has no power like her sister. She is the second and youngest Princess of Arendelle. Anna is more daring than graceful and, at times, can act before she thinks. But she's also the most optimistic and caring person you'll ever meet. She longs to reconnect with her sister Elsa, as they were close during their childhood (Disney, n.d.).King Adgar and Queen Idun is Elsa and Anna parents. King Agdar and Queen Idun were the rulers of Arendelle. Together, they had two fair daughters, Elsa and Anna. Although Anna was a normal child, Elsa was born with powers of ice and snow. Apparently, Agdar and Idun are as powerless as Anna, but it can be presumed that either magical abilities run in the family and merely skipped their generation or that something happened to Idun when she was pregnant with Elsa. Agdar is learned, kind, powerful and diligent. Idun appears to be far more passive than her husband, though given the obvious motherly nature needed to raise Anna and Elsa.

SETTINGPlace: there are three place for the script I choose, the first scene is in Elsa bedroom and the second scene is at the castle staircase and the last scene is at castle ballroomTime: all three scene is been done at night. Around 11pm above where all the people inside the castle is asleep.Anna cannot sleep and she goes to her sister room to wake her up and ask Elsa to accompany her to play.

ELSA : Watch this!

ANNA : Catch me!

(Elsa makes another peak to catch Anna.)

REPORT

In choosing the movie, it consume two days to find appropriate movie that suits our aspiration. We faced the difficulty when we already choose the movie but we couldnt find the scene that we covet. And once again we have to find another movie that is suits the assignment. We fist want to choose a scene from Maleficent film but then the audio of the scene are scratch and then we proceed to Avatar and Twilight movie but then again the audio problem however this time the scene that we longing for does not have enough exchanges. Lastly we attempt to go for the animated movie and where the audio, video, scene and the length of the scene that we wish for is there. We choose Ratatouille and Frozen

We divide our work by giving each one of us one movie to do the script, background of the text, setting, and the participant of the text and lastly analysis of the script according the Grice maxim. Next we split other work, one person will do the introduction, report and editing and another partner will do the findings, cover page and last check and also printing. We divided this way because its easy and comfortable to do this way. In analyzing the text we confront the confusion on how to identify the Grice maxim, especially maxim of manner and to solve this problem we a referring the internet and asking our friend about Grice maxim. However, this is still far from the complete one, but by this we can be known the flouting and hedging maxims used in texts script of Ratatouille and Frozen film. I hope that criticisms and suggestions will rise from the reader to gain the better researcher. Here, I would like to suggest some points related that this assignment will help to understanding about the flouting and hedging maxims. Thus, they may have a good comprehension on the written text by reading the whole texts script and spoken language by watching the film. It will be able to help them to avoid having wrong interpretation. Furthermore, it can improve the skill in English language, especially in writing and speaking skill.
