Located on the shores of picturesque Hubbard Pond in southern

New Hampshire, Wildwood is a nature-focused camp for everyone.

Here, campers ages 9–17 have fun as they explore the outdoors,

make friends, and develop self-confidence and leadership skills

that last a lifetime.

This camp experience was honestly

one of the best things I’ve ever

done because I’m not an outgoing

person, I’m really shy, but I got out

of my comfort zone that week!

Overnight Camp

For campers ages 9–14.

Wildwood is all about choice and exploration! Our daily schedule is built around activity periods featuring a variety of programs for campers to choose from.

Pre-Breakfast Jaunt (PBJ) Is your camper an early riser? Optional PBJs give campers the opportunity to start their day with activities like birding, paddling, and the always-popular polar bear swim!

Interest Groups (IGs) Interest Groups let campers thoroughly explore a chosen topic over the course of four days. Campers choose from programs like Wetland Exploration, Archery, Sailing, and Outdoor Living Skills.

Unit Time In between activity periods campers return to their units to regroup.

After morning activities, campers and counselors return to their units to check in and go over their essentials. At this time some unit groups have scheduled shower time and everyone tidies up their bunks.

After lunch, campers return to their bunks for Siesta, during which they have some down time to write a letter home, read, or take a quick nap.

Discovery Groups (DGs) Each day, campers select two DGs. Each offers a unique experience for participants to discover topics like wild edibles, improv games, arts and crafts, high ropes, paddling, and much more.

Open Activity Time (OATs) OATs is free time for campers to swim or paddle on Hubbard Pond, join a game of soccer at the activity field, or simply relax and meet up with friends.

Evening Program (EP) After dinner, the evening program is an all-camp game or activity. We begin each session with a campfire around which campers can share their favorite songs, skits, and talents. The following evenings include activities like Predator Prey and Heffalump Hunt.

At the end of each day, campers and counselors gather inside the tent for a reflective Cabin Chat.

Teen Adventure Trips

Wildwood Teen Adventure Trips

immerse teens in the natural wonders

of New England’s most beautiful

areas and provide fun, appropriate

challenges with options for all levels

of outdoor experience.

After a day of group-building and

orientation at Wildwood, campers and

trip leaders head into the New England

wilderness. Along the way, they meet

with environmental professionals and

naturalists to learn firsthand about

natural science and conservation. Most

groups also complete a brief service

project, allowing teens to leave a positive

mark on the special places they visit.

Groups are co-ed, with two leaders

and up to eight teens. Participants

practice hands-on skills in outdoor

adventure and Leave No Trace, and

develop knowledge of the region’s

natural history.4

One-Week TripsWildwood’s one-week trek options are appropriate for teens with all levels of outdoor activity and camping experience.

Acadia Adventure June 24–30 Breathe in the excitement of Maine’s Acadia National Park and enjoy spectacular coastal views. We’ll hike along the granite slopes of Cadillac Mountain and bike along carriage roads. Watch for whales, seals, eagles, and other wildlife while kayaking along the coves and rocky shores. Spend the afternoon with friends at one of the park’s scenic beaches, and share stories of your adventures around a cozy campfire.* Backpacking the Wild Whites July 1–7Take a breath of fresh mountain air as we explore the nature and landscape of New Hampshire’s remote Wild River Wilderness. Stay alert for wildlife sightings as we trek across beautiful ridgelines and incredible valleys. Learn the basics of backpacking and the essentials of Leave No Trace as we traverse this hidden land.**

Bike & Beach July 8–14 Explore some of New England’s premier coastal destinations on this trip to Cape Cod and Nantucket. We’ll kayak in Barnstable Bay, bike along the beaches and dunes of the outer Cape, and meet biologists who study wildlife, such as turtles, bats, and plants unique to the region. We’ll also travel to Nantucket Island to discover its marshes, beaches, and woodlands. This coastal experience concludes with a bike ride through the heart of the island and a relaxing afternoon at the beach.*

Caves & Waterfalls in the Pioneer Valley July 15–21Discover boulder caves and waterfalls hidden throughout Massachusetts’ Pioneer Valley. This trek delves into the fascinating natural history of the area, with a focus on geology and cave wildlife ecology. We’ll explore natural caves and waterfalls while learning about how these features formed and how they support the local ecology. There will be plenty of hiking and spelunking, not to mention a dip in a waterfall pool!

Paddling Vermont’s Waterways July 22–28Explore the glacier carved lowlands of the Vermont Piedmont as we venture along a beautiful stretch of the Connecticut River afloat and afoot. After an afternoon of professional paddling instruction, we’ll load up the canoes and spend two nights floating down the river as we spot wildlife and build outdoor skills. After we’ve experienced the river valley by boat, we’ll strike out on foot to explore some of the ridges and peaks that surround it.

Exploring the Champlain Valley July 29–August 4Camp and hike through the pristine beauty of this magnificent area and explore the shores of New England’s largest body of freshwater, Lake Champlain. Witness breathtaking views from high atop Vermont’s Green Mountains and discover woodlands, wetlands, and a landscape shaped by glaciers thousands of years ago. We’ll spend a couple of exciting days on Lake Champlain, exploring its unique freshwater ecology while paddling and camping along local islands. A refreshing dip at the end of a hot day and evenings around the campfire promise great times on this tremendous trek.

Maine Coast Kayaking August 5–11 Venture out to sea as we explore the scenic coves and bays of the Maine coast with professional sea-kayaking guides. Keep your eyes peeled for seals, puffins, and maybe even a whale as we paddle to our island campsite. We’ll learn the basics of kayaking and Leave No Trace camping as we travel the high seas and scenic beaches. Wrap it all up with relaxing nights around the campfire for an absolutely unforgettable adventure.

Footloose in the White Mountains August 12–18 Have the time of your life on this hiking, backpacking, and rock-climbing adventure in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. We’ll enjoy short hikes and spend a couple of days with professional rock-climbing guides. Then, we’ll travel into the heart of the backcountry for an unforgettable overnight—keep an eye out for moose, beavers, and loons in this wonderful wilderness!

Two-Week TripsTwo-week long trips are more in-depth adventures exploring the New England wilderness—perfect for teens looking to progress to more advanced programs. These trips require a high level of physical fitness and are recommended for teens entering grades 10–12 with previous adventure-trip experience.

New England High Points July 1–14Explore the natural wonders of all six New England states—plus New York—as you summit the tallest peak in each. The pursuit of state high points has a proud tradition and we’ll be joining in. New England’s highest places range from a relaxing stroll up Rhode Island’s Jerimoth Hill to the challenge of hiking as much as 15 miles to ascend peaks like Mount Katahdin in Maine. In between peaks we’ll enjoy activities like zip-lining, river tubing, visiting with career naturalists, and taking in breathtaking scenery around New England. Once the adventure has ended, we will have proudly completed a regional high point challenge and be well on the way to a hobby that can last a lifetime.

Hiking Vermont’s Long Trail July 22–August 4Gear up for adventure along the ridge of Vermont’s Green Mountains on this inspiring trek. The Long Trail is the oldest long-distance hiking trail in the country and traverses some of Vermont’s highest peaks, offering breathtaking vistas along the way. Guided by experienced Trek Leaders, this journey spans the distance between Bromley Mountain and the Massachusetts border. Teens will have the opportunity to learn and practice Leave No Trace camping skills and fortify their confidence to thrive in the backcountry as they trek through remote Vermont wilderness. Join us for two great weeks exploring the natural wonders of Vermont’s most famous footpath!**

*If a trip itinerary includes bicycling, teens should already be able to ride a bicycle.

**Teens should expect to travel backcountry terrain with an internal-frame backpack weighing up to 40 pounds. Wildwood can provide most backpacking gear with prior arrangements.

Leaders-In-Training Teens entering grade 10 SESSION A June 24—July 7

SESSION B July 8—21

First-year LITs participate in team-building activities, take part in an environmental service project, and act as leaders and role models at camp. With the support and guidance of their facilitators, all LITs are tasked with leading their peers in a program of their own creation. Off-site community service provides LITs with an opportunity to serve and connect with communities beyond Wildwood.

Leaders-In-Action Teens entering grade 11 July 29–August 18

Leaders-In-Action dive deeper into leadership, putting their experience into practice at Wildwood and beyond. Their focus is on leaving a lasting impact on the Wildwood program and property through their leadership and service. This session will leave teens with skills they can build on for years to come—at home, at school, and within their communities. Leaders-In-Action are selected by application and interview. Contact the Wildwood office at 866-627-2267 or [email protected] for more information.

Wildwood Leaders-In-Training (LITs)

develop leadership skills through

hands-on experience both at

Wildwood and away. During each

session, LIT staff supports and

challenges teens to develop their

individual leadership skills. Each

teen will be given opportunities to

practice leading his or her peers

and younger campers, and receive

support and feedback from the group.

Teens will leave with experience and

confidence in peer leadership, giving

and receiving feedback, and acting as

a positive role model for their peers

and younger campers.

Wildwood Staff Our summer camp staff includes educators, naturalists, and college students from the United States and around the world—all dedicated adults who work to create a positive community and ensure each camper has a safe and rewarding camp experience.

We select staff members who have experience working with children and a strong desire to share their knowledge of the natural world. The application process includes thorough interviews and background and reference checks.

Before camp begins, all staff members participate in an intensive two-week training program that covers child development and supervision, health and safety procedures, and environmental education.

All camp staff members hold current CPR, AED, and first-aid certifications as well as activity-specific certifications. We have around-the-clock, licensed health care staff on site, along with access to an on-call pediatric practice at nearby Monadnock Community Hospital.

Leadership Team Wildwood’s leadership team works year-round to develop high-quality summer camp programming. We participate in ongoing professional development provided by organizations such as the American Camp Association (ACA). We are always available to talk with families and campers to help them prepare for a successful camp experience.

Mass Audubon protects 37,000 acres of land throughout Massachusetts, saving birds and other wildlife, and making nature accessible to all. As Massachusetts’ largest nature conservation nonprofit, we welcome more than a half million visitors a year to our wildlife sanctuaries and 20 nature centers. From inspiring hilltop views to breathtaking coastal landscapes, serene woods, and working farms, we believe in protecting our state’s natural treasures for wildlife and for all people—a vision shared in 1896 by our founders, two extraordinary Boston women.

Today, Mass Audubon is a nationally recognized environmental education leader, offering thousands of camp, school, and adult programs that get over 225,000 kids and adults outdoors every year. With more than 125,000 members and supporters, we advocate on Beacon Hill and beyond, and conduct conservation research to preserve the natural heritage of our beautiful state for today’s and future generations. We welcome you to explore a nearby sanctuary, find inspiration, and get involved. Learn how at massaudubon.org.
