From The SuperintendentAs summer approaches the hotter weather tends to stress the turf. Please try to avoid those areas when walking and choose a different path when driving your cart. Don’t forget to repair your ball marks and remind your friends to do the same. It only takes a minute and everyone will benefit! If you have a problem regarding the course, please call the shop at (925) 634-0505. If I don’t answer, leave a message and I’ll get back to you ASAP. Otherwise, you can stop Sal or I on the course. We’re here to help.

Thank you all for your support and great comments I have received as your new Superintendent.

Member Appreciation DayThe Country Club Staff would like to “Thank” all of the members who took the time to be here on May 25th, Memorial Day.

We had approximately 420 members here over the course of the day enjoying the food, beverages, and live music. Of course the weather could not have been nicer!

Many people participated in the golf skills challenge that the Pro Shop put on and Sharron Luddy sank not one, but two 60 foot putts!!!

2009 Ladies Invitational August 5 & 6

The course will be busy at DBCC with practice rounds the day before, and two days of events for their annual gala. The golf course will have limited open play available on the 4th, none on the 5th, and back 9 only on the 6th after about 2pm due to the Horserace on the front.

THE CLUB WILL BE CLOSED ON

CHRISTMAS DAY SUNDAY,

DECEMBER 25TH.

2009 Member/Member TournamentThe dates for this event are October 16 and 17. The cost will again be about $100, and the format will change some. The Par 3 challenge the first day, in which 4 sets of tees are placed on all 18 holes where your handicap determines the yardage, was very popular last year. This is a Best Ball day. A couple of “wrinkles” should be ironed out with an earlier start time, no lunch on the turn (lunch before golf instead), and moved up a week on the calendar to make sure we don’t finish in the dark. If you recall, every hole is a CTP with certs for golf at area golf clubs. The second day will be 9 holes of Best Ball (front side), combined with both balls counting on the back side. These changes were recommended by the tournament committee and we think it will make for a very competitive event. We will also have separate 4 hole Horserace’s for men and women. Format for the race is alternate shot. This event had 124 players last year and due to good reports from nearly every participant, we think this has a chance to sell out this year. So you late signup people should not wait until the last minute.

Skins Games These are proving to be popular, with about 30 players for each one. July skins evenings are July 2 and 16, and signups are in event portion of Foretees or call the Pro Shop and we will put you in.

Associate Events in July/August

The club will hosting two Associate club tournaments in July/August. The dates we will be hosting are July 11th & August 15th. Two shotgun starts will be available for the membership at 8:00 am and 12:30 pm. Thank you for your support.

Recent Hole in OnesMike Reich had an ace on #17 May

25 while playing with Mr. Jardin and Mr. Bartoli. His trusty 7 iron flew 142 yards into the hole. I heard Claudio

and Frank made him take a mulligan and hit again!

Congrats Mike!

Available Mondays in August

July 6th, July 13th, July 20th, and July 27th August 3rd, August 24th, and August 31st

Every Monday in July should be available barring unforeseen circumstances. August 3, 24 and 31should be available as well. It is always a 9 am shotgun start with no other open play tee times. The range is open these days until 12:30, but practice is on our mats. The Driving range & Snack Bar will be open during the shotgun. The upstairs and restaurant will be closed.Sign up in the pro shop or online under Events.

Our winning team is Dick Heyman and Mark White by defeating John Beatty and guest Carl Brooks in an exciting and well played Horserace. Tom Foley and former member Steve Steger also played well, and took third.

Eight “boats” of players fought hard for the 5 nine hole matches, and many were not decided until Saturday morning. Other boat winners who advanced to the Horserace were:

Lyall Miller/Joe BirchRick Lemay/Jon MorenoDon Stewart/Don Littell

Darrell and Scott MazenkoRandy Vieira/Michael Ferriera

Final money spots in the tournament were held by Mike Rhoads/Dave Bechtold and Dale Welin/Chris Miller because of point total.

Closest to Pins and Long Drive continue to be popular option bets with nice paybacks, and there were many winners on the “casino” hole.

We had a pretty good turnout with late signups that saved the day, but we are told by other clubs in the area that the price for this event is such a bargain, that we can’t understand why it doesn’t sell out. If you have constructive comments that would help this event for next year please share them.
