ABOUT ANGKORThe most significant religious monument ever to have been constructed, the temples of Angkor are the greatest legacy of the mighty Khmer Empire and the ultimate expression of Cambodian ingenuity. Built over centuries, the ruins of this holy city are the remnants of the Angkorian capitals and represent the pinnacle of this ancient civilization.

Angkor was the capital of the Khmer Empire, which flourished from approximately the 9th to 15th centuries and has been recognised as one of the most important archaeological sites in Southeast Asia. Spread across a staggering 400 square kilometers, the Angkor Archaeological Park is home to the remains of the different capitals of the Khmer Empire.

Once a thriving industry, the traditional production of golden silk has almost disappeared due to complicated production techniques and low yield. The Golden Silk Farm is dedicated to restoring and safeguarding the fabulous Khmer traditional methods and techniques of golden silk production. TONLE SAP LAKE KOMPONG PHLUK & THE FLOODED FORESTWatch the colours of the sky transform, and the sun sink into an inspired journey through the floodplains of Tonle Sap Lake and witness the incredible stilted houses of Kompong Phluk. Relax as you take in the sights and sounds of these delightfully different abodes, drifting past fishermen, boat makers, schools, markets and throngs of waving children. A local guide is on hand to provide valuable insights into the culture, lifestyle and ecosystem of the authentic villages. The landscape alters dramatically between wet and dry seasons where the lake rises almost to the door of the houses or the stilted houses tower over you; up to six metres above the water line.

Following your time at Kompong Phluk, you’ll float your way to the flooded forest, where you’ll glide through a labyrinth of submerged trees where the only sounds you’ll hear are the rhythmic paddle of the oars and an almost otherworldly experience.

PREK TOAL BIOSPHERE RESERVEWhen nature calls, whisk yourself away to this bird watcher and animal lover’s paradise. Home to one of the most important colonies of endangered water birds in Southeast Asia, the freshwater lake is one of the largest in Asia, swelling to 12,000 square kilometres over the wet season. Almost 150 species of birds, like rare painted storks, greater and lesser adjuncts and spot-billed pelicans call the area home.

Along with the rich ornithological offerings, the area counts crocodiles, turtles and more than 200 species of fish as local residents in one of the region’s richest examples of biodiversity. The areas surrounding the lake are similarly distinctive, with floating villages, towering stilted houses and an economy and way of life intertwined with the water system, the fish and the cycles of rising and falling waters.

SUNSET AT CHONG KHNEASRelax and take in the stunning natural beauty of Tonle Sap Lake as we navigate our way through floating houses, markets, villages and schools. OUTLYING TEMPLES HALF DAYEscape the ever present crowds at the major temples of the Angkor Archaelogical Park and enjoy wandering the captivating temples of Banteay Srei and Banteay Samre in solitude.

Travelling through the pristine countryside, you’ll pass glimpses of rural Cambodian life like immaculately uniformed children walking to school and their parents tending the fields as you make your way to these forgotten temples. Some of the most elegant carvings in the region can be found at Banteay Srei, with sensuous celestial dancers carved into the hard red sandstone that dates back to the 10th century. GOLF ANGKOR GOLF RESORTThe Sir Nick Faldo designed Angkor Golf Resort opened in January 2008. It is without doubt the finest golf course in Cambodia, and any keen golfer visiting Siem Reap should play at least one round here.

PHOKEETHRA COUNTRY CLUB The Phokeethra Country Club was the first true international standard golf course to open in Cambodia in 2007. For four years through to 2010 it staged the Asian PGA tour event Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open. The course is designed to championship standard and will test your strategic skills. Water comes into play on all but one hole, plus the final hole requires the player to negotiate a double water carry.
