    practices. When fish are giving balanced and regular diets withn a tu r al f oo d s i n a g o od p on d en v ir o nm e nt , go o d g r ow t h w i ll b eassured.

Overstocking, i.e. overcrowding of fish in pond water ii. Wounds on fish flesh. Wounds promote bacterial

    primarily due to activities of bacteria and fungi. Fishpresent in such pond environment can easily beinfected.

    Symptoms of Bacterial Infection.i. Darkening of fish skinii. Slow, sluggish or weak movement in water.

    iii. Loss of appetite i.e. fish not active in feedingiv. Fis h cluster near water inlets of ponds and even try to

    jump out of the pond.v. Red/brown spots on fish skin.vi. Visible red streaks (lines) at the base of the fins.vi i. S wel li ng of the abd om en w it h pr otr udi ng s cal es .

    Prevention/Control Measuresi. Stock fish at recommended ratesii. Dont apply too much fertilizer in the pond to avoid

    iii. Feed fish at recommended rates with good qualityfeeds.

    2. In a fish farm having many ponds, special purpose ponds must be
