Conference on Semantic and Digital Media Technologies (SAMT). First Edition 8th-9th December 2006, in Athens (continuation of successful EWIMT conferences).

Special Sessions in Relevant Conferences. For example: The K-Space special session on “Integrating

knowledge, semantics and image processing for classification and recognition in video surveillance applications“ at ICIP 2006 in Atlanta

The First International Workshop on Semantic Web Annotations for Multimedia (SWAMM), as an event of the WWW 2006 conference in Edinburgh.

outside of the consortium Summer Schools (September 2006 in Greece, 2007 in

Scotland), in collaboration with other projects (eg aceMedia).

Industrial Events Industrial placement of research personnel, in close

collaboration with the Industrial Advisory Board of K-Space Technology transfer to industry, including market studies

etc., in close collaboration with the Industrial Advisory Board of K-Space.

Other activities: Towards a Scientific Forum in Multimedia Knowledge Extraction and Analysis

During the first 18 months of K-space the consortium will launch an association similar to the Duch Stichting, German Verein or scientific society. The mission of the Verein or Society is the promotion of Semantic Multimedia Research and Technology, e.g. SMART e.V. The first task within this activity is to produce a plan for the achievement of the scientific forum and draft the guidelines that will govern the forum. This draft guidelines and plan will be produced during the first 6 months.

Liaison to Standards All partners will contribute to dissemination within the standardisation

bodies they are involved in. We will check for K-Space specific work items in standardisation bodies.

For example: we are currently participating in MPEG-21 and JPSearch (JPEG)
