Frequently Asked Questions

DO I NEED A RESCUE SYSTEM/PLAN?

Yes, OSHA 1926.502(20) states that “Theemployer shall provide for ‘prompt’ rescue ofemployees in the event of a fall or shallassure that employees are able to resuethemselves.”

WHAT IS A PROMPT RESCUE?

OSHA points to research indicating thatsuspension in a fall arrest device can result inunconsciousness followed by death in lessthan 30 minutes. An Air Force study showsthat volunteers suspended in harnessesexperienced adverse health effects in as littleas 12 to 15 minutes. Some safety experts saydamage can be done in as little as 5 or 6minutes.

HOW DOES THE RAPTOR RESCUE SYSTEMWORK?

The Raptor Rescue System is designed tolower or raise a fallen worker to a safe area somedical treatment can be administered. Aftera fall has occurred, lower the EngagementArm Lock into position and release the cablelowering to the fallen worker. Once the cablehas been properly attached you may begin tolower or raise the worker. One man can workthe winch simply because of its 5 to 1 gearreduction.

The LES Raptor Trench Box Perimeter Railing Systemis designed to provide fall protection for workersworking on or around the opening of a trench boxwhile also not extruding to the interior of the box.
