The Club Excellence Award is more than an award...it is proof that your club is STRONG! Qualifying clubs will receive a Club Excellence Award pin for the club president and a banner patch for the club. Elements of Excellence are: 1. Membership Have a net increase of one member OR Charter a new Lions club or Club Branch AND Support member retention by increasing member
satisfaction. 2. Service Start a new service project. Consider on of the Global Causes! OR Organize a new Leo Club AND Contribute to LCIF 3. Organizational Excellence The club cannot be in status quo or financial suspension. All District & International dues must be paid in full AND Officers participate in one or more of the following
leadership training events: District, Multiple District, International, Webinars, Lions Learning Center or Club Quality Initiative AND
Improve club operations 4. Marketing and Communication The club has publicized its service activities through Local media or social media. Club Excellence Award application and more information available at: https://lionsclubs.org/en/search-results?keys=club+excellence+award Qualifications must be met and application must be completed and presented to the Immediate Past District Governor Sue Hastings, no later than August 30, 2020 for presentation during the 2021 District Convention.

Richard Kerscher, PDG was a member of the Northbrook Lions Club and was considered a profile in courage. Even though he was wheelchair bound, he did not let his disability prohibit him from being the Lion he was. Lion Richard served as a District 1-F Governor in 1988-1989. To honor his service the Richard Kerscher Service Excellence Award was established. Presented to the Lion who best exemplifies Lionistic service. Nomination by a club president required. The recipient of this award receives a Lions of Illinois Foundation Fellow. John Greener, PDG was a member of the Morton Grove Lions Club. He was a Lion who represented the meaning of being a Lion. Lion John’s goal was to serve and put the needs of others before his own, on club, district, state and international levels. His involvement in Birdies for Charity took this event to heights that have not been reached since. Lion John served as a District 1-F Governor in 1990-1991. To honor his service the John Greener Service Excellence Award was established. Awarded to a Lion who best exemplifies the Lions Code of Ethics in their daily life. Nomination by any Lion. A.G. “Ang” Marcheschi, PDG was an active Lion both in District 1-F and the Niles Lions Club. He continued to help others in need as one of the founders of the Lions of Illinois Foundation. He was also one of the first governors to serve as a Lions of Illinois Foundation Trustee. Lion Ang served as a District 1-F Governor in 1966-1967. To honor his service the Ang Marcheschi Service Excellence Award was established. Awarded by the Governor to the club(s) that deserves special recognition for exemplary service to the community, significant growth and/or operational improvement or has successfully presented an individual project. Selected by Governor. May be awarded to more than one club.

Robert Abbott was a member of the Waukegan Little Fort Lions Club. He was an all-around Lion with an eye for detail. As a principal for the Waukegan School District, his contributions were so great that today a Waukegan middle school bears his name. Robert’s commitment to Lions was evident as he held the office of Waukegan Little Fort’s Secretary for over 30 years. To honor his service the Robert Abbott Service Excellence Award was established. Awarded to the Club Officer who best exemplifies attention to duty and excellence in performance of their duties. Nomination by a zone chair. Milt Tuttle, PID was a member of the Des Plaines Lions Club. He served Lions as an International leader as well as a District leader. He was one of the first “Guiding Lions” working with others to sponsor new clubs in our District. Lion Milt served as a District 1-F Governor in 1961-1962. To honor his service the Milt Tuttle Service Excellence Award was established. Awarded to the district cabinet member who best exemplifies dedication to service of the individual clubs and Lions of District 1-F and is truly a “Servant Leader”. Selected by the District Governor. Awards are presented at the 2021 District 1-F Convention. • As of May 31, 2021, the club should not have a balance greater than $50 to Lions Clubs International. All dues (LCI, MD-1 & District 1-F) must be paid within sixty (60) days of the billing date.
• The International PU-101 must be submitted online to International by May 15, 2021
• Monthly Membership Reports (MMR) must be filed each month online at lionsclubs.org/MyLCI no later than the last day of the current reporting month.
• The Club Secretary must attend at least two (2) Zone Meetings in the District.
• The Club Secretary must attend at least one convention: District 1-F, MD-1 State or International Convention.
• The Club Secretary must attend club officer training. District 1-F’s annual leadership training; online training with Lions
Clubs International’s Leadership Development – Club Officer Orientation; Lions of Illinois MD-1 Forum or a veteran club secretary (5 yrs.+) may have a waiver on this requirement with a written request and approval from the District Governor.
• The Club Secretary must complete three (3) of these six (6) options: A. Personally sponsor one or more members between July 1,
2020 and June 30, 2021 B. Attend another Lions Club’s meeting, not including your own
multiple club meeting or quad, tri, etc. C. Attend another Lions Club’s event D. Attend one or more of the following:
1.Lions of IL Foundation event 2.District 1-F Fall fundraiser 3.District 1-F Spring fundraiser 4.District 1-F bowling tournament(s)
F. Submit an article about the club to the District Newsletter G. Serve at a District level as Committee Chair or Member
Awards will be presented at the 2022 District 1-F Convention to those who qualify. Completed form (available on the District 1F website) should be submitted to the then IPDG Tom Lippert, by December 31, 2021.

Government annual filings for Lions Clubs are important to keep current. Late filing penalties can be severe. If a club's officers have questions, please ask your cabinet officers who to contact in our district to help you through these tough rules. Also, we can have training sessions to review these financial matters with you in more detail than can be presented here. Lions Clubs International (LCI) and its member clubs have received a group federal tax exemption 0239, under Internal Revenue Code § 501(c)(4). Each club is reported under this exemption by LCI. Clubs must verify using the LCI website that the Federal Employer's Identification Number (FEIN) LCI uses for their club is the one that the club uses for its filings, and resolve any discrepancies. All Lions Clubs are required to file the annual online Federal Form 990-N or Form 990 or 990-EZ Information Return or with the IRS. History of Lions International
Lions Clubs International began in June 1917 when a 38-year old insurance agent named Melvin Jones presented to a group of separate business clubs the idea of consolidating the individual clubs into one strong, influential club with the goal of helping the community and serving humanity.
The Lions Motto is: “WE SERVE”
Mission To empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions clubs.
Lions International Purposes
To Organize, charter and supervise service clubs to be known as Lions clubs.
To Coordinate the activities and standardize the administration of Lions clubs.
To Create and foster a spirit of understanding among the peoples of the world.
To Promote the principles of good government and good citizenship.
To Take an active interest in the civic, cultural, social and moral welfare of the community.
To Unite the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship and mutual understanding.

“Jump Start” our Lions District & Clubs” After a period of time. you need to get your jumping cables hooked up to your battery and give it a refreshed “charge” of new life. Your Lions Club is the battery and Lions International and District 1F is your source of this refreshed “charge”. While your Club is” recharging”, like our Lion’s logo, let’s look back to our history of what has worked and not worked for us and take that into consideration when we recharge. Eventually we move forward with renewed initiative to make our Club better inside and out. Like the Lion’s logo, looking back, learn and look forward. Key club subjects like membership retention, new “active” membership, marketing locally, leadership training, etc. should be addressed. As you are “recharging”, this is a perfect time to evaluate COVID-19’s impact and how it will change our lives and service. From how we greet each other, to what’s on your bucket list. The kind of change that’s occurred over a few months will change how we do things for years. A sample of what’s coming:
• People will be increasingly be fixated on washing away deadly germs. Especially for older people, hand scrubbing, mask wearing, and hyper attention to surface disinfection will be the norm.
• The mail, your morning newspaper, dinner, and a movie...COVID-19 has put them all on the endangered list. Already reeling from online competition, more than 15,000 stores could close, according to retail research firm Coresight Research.
• A fear of people. It’s more than a concern about contagion. Our collective mindset is shifting on everything from stadium gatherings to our dream trips. Take me out to the crowd? Not now.
I’m not one to preach “gloom & doom” by any means, but do believe in future planning based on reality. As we all “recharge” let’s be prepared. How does this affect the current services and events we provide? By addressing people’s concerns, are we prepared? As a District, through our Zone Chairs and Clubs, we’re all in this together Emphasize “jump starting” your Club at zone meetings. One way, to do this is learning from each other. One fellow Club to another. What’s made certain Clubs more successful in certain areas than another? How are they addressing COVID-19? Based on the past, why a certain issue isn’t working with your Club. Other Clubs, got any ideas to help us get this working again? I believe we can learn a lot from one another. Please don’t forget to use Lions Club International’s website. There are boundless resources on various topics like leadership training. Concluding, I’ve learned how to make my Club better by experiencing other Clubs strong and weak points. As we start a new Lions fiscal year with a lot of new Club officers, it is a key time to “Jump Start” your club. We are all willing to help you. So, as we move forward and hook up our “jumping cables” to our District and Clubs to “recharge”. I’ve been told that nobody reads the newsletter. I’d like to know you did.
