Three weeks ago Pam and I attended meetings of the Strezleckie (beautiful old hall), Maffra (Duart Heritage Homestead), Loch Sport (Great Community / Rec Centre) and Wellington/Latrobe (another beautiful old hall) Lions Clubs. Although each club is quite different each welcomed us with great hospitality and good humour which we thoroughly appreciated. Our thanks also go to those kind Lions who offered us beds for the night. Last week Pam and I also had the pleasure of visiting the Lions Clubs of Bruthen, Omeo Shire (which happened to coincide with their own 40 th Charter Anniversary and the annual three day calf sales at Omeo, Ensay and Benam- bra) Paynesville (attended by Lions, Lioness and 3 Kings Club members), Orbost and Mallacoota in the District’s far east. Each of these clubs have had new member inductions, with the prospect of more to follow. Their projects are many and varied. New BBQ gazebos, boat launching ramps, Men’s Sheds, primary school chook sheds and vegie gardens, catering at farmers markets and car boot sales with lots of sausage sizzles everywhere. Where numbers were thought to be a bit light for some projects many non - Lion family mem- bers, neighbours and friends are roped in to lend a hand – each are entered in the books as participating volunteers. The tyranny of distance allowed us to stay overnight with some Lion’s families along the way which was really appreciated. Thank you to one and all. Everywhere we went the grass was greener and the livestock fatter due to the 5 inches of rain which swept down the east coast from Queensland about six to eight weeks ago. It’s incredible what a decent fall of rain will do to the coun- tryside. It brought lots of smiles and laughter too around the towns and out on the farms. This transformation alone was well worth the visit. I hope all the folk affected by the long hot dry in the rest of District 201 V3 will get their fair share of rain before too long. Has anyone else noticed how few flies and mozzies there are, this year? I wonder if they are affected by the sustained heat wave like we are? Yesterday the Lions Club of Rosebud held its 40 th Anniversary at the RACV Cape Schanck Golf Resort. It was attended by approximately 90 people plus Pam and myself who thoroughly enjoyed the day catching up with some peo- ple we hadn’t seen for years. Tomorrow night I’m revisiting Westernport Lions. On Friday night we have the Lions Debutante Ball at Korumburra and on Sunday next we have the Youth of the Year District Final at Trafalgar which I hope many of you will attend. By now most of you will have completed your club elections. As soon as you do please let Cabinet Secretary Norma Barnard know the results, so our District at least can have our section of the Australian Directory correct and up to date. Carers contributing to these services save the taxpayers a huge amount of money and resources”. GCA project manager Dale Harriman was over whelmed by the support and thanked everyone personally. The other aim of the network is to provide peer support for each other, no matter where they live in Gippsland. Lions President Wen- dy Rudin explained ”It’s great being a Lion and being able not only to help, but help make so many people happy and informed, along with giving a easy way to contact all the Carers and keep them informed.”

From the Cabinet Secretary

I hope you have all enjoyed a great Easter. It is lovely watching the children gather Easter Eggs and their anticipation of „Easter Bunny‟ coming to their homes and schools. I remember years ago my previous Club used to visit the Children‟s ward at the Frankston Hospital to give out Easter eggs to the patients, a very rewarding project.

The next thing to look forward to is the Multiple District Convention in Canberra. Registrations will commence at 1 p.m. on the 25th. of April if anyone would like to register early. To date V3 have 50 Lions and part-ners registered, this doesn‟t match up with what I have received as delegates and alternates from your Club. If your Club hasn‟t forwarded returns 5 & 6 please ask them to do so.

March was membership month; some Clubs were able to induct new members during this period. Let us all welcome the following members into District 201V3. I have been receiving cheques from some Clubs for several reasons. I do know that it says send everything to the Cabinet Secretary at the top of the Multiple District Directory, it would be much easier for myself, and Cabinet Treasurer Lion Max Dusting, if you could send cheques to him for dues and donations. Please ensure that you send a letter/note to Lion Max to advise him of what your cheques are for. As you can imag-ine the Cabinet Treasurer is busy at the moment receiving money for dues and donations. All cheques should be made out to Lions Clubs International District 201V3.

Advice has been given from the Australian Lions Foundation in relation to donations for the Disaster Relief Appeal. These donations do not qualify for Australian Lions Foundation Awards as these funds are not held by the ALF, but disbursed to the impacted Districts for use in the support and recovery for community areas impacted by the disaster.

You will notice that there isn‟t a listing of where the District Governor will be visiting; the reason is that District Governor Don and Lion Pam have now visited all Clubs. What a great effort and a very rewarding one for them. Until next month, take care.

Membership Chairman Australian Lionsonoz

Australian Lionsonoz was formed initially as a Branch Club of the Wooli Lions Club from an idea of Lions Kel and Yvie Kearns. They wanted to travel but did not want to lose contact with the Lions Family as from experience they had seen that often when a member went „at large or travelled for long periods of time (as they in-tended to do), they eventually just resign from Lions and or worse just disappear never to be heard from again. If it was not for Australian Lion-sonoz a lot of very good experienced Lions would have been lost to the Lions Family. The Lions Club of Australian Lionsonoz Chartered in March 2009

The member numbers of Australian Lionsonoz fluctuates as the members will transfer back to the original Club or to a Lions Club in the place they have chosen to settle. This has happen numerous times!

Any enquiries received re joining Lions, we recommend that they contact their Local Lions Club, we also offer to help them to make contact and where possible take them to a meeting and introduce them.

PDG Warren White from Australian Lionsonoz forwarded this story: On Tuesday 19th February I had the pleasure of inducting two new mem-bers into the Kootingal & District Lions Club. This brings their membership up to 22. New Lion Warren Barber is a sign writer and new Lion Troy Taggart is a concreter, both young men with their skills should be valuable additions to the Club. An interesting feature of the Kootingal Lions Club is that the only retired member is the secretary, Lion Jill. The Club is full of young enthusiastic Lions which makes it a pleasure to visit.

Pictured: PDG Warren White with inductees Lions Troy Taggart and Warren Barber and their sponsor Lion David Emmanuel at the Kootingal & District Lions Club.

What is Australian Lionsonoz? Australian Lionsonoz is an internet based Lions Club that operates essentially through email and

Skype

Is Australian Lionsonoz a real Service Club? Lionsonoz operates in exactly the same way as a normal Lions Club. Responsible to Lions District 201N1, MD 201 and LCI. We conduct regu-lar meetings which combine the functions of Dinner and Board Meetings. Some of our members are on the District Cabinet and we attend District, MD and International Conventions.

Who is it for? Lionsonoz was chartered to meet the needs of existing Lions who have adopted a travelling lifestyle and where membership of a normal Lions Club is not possible in the case of an all male Lions Club or the local Lions Club has folded for whatever reason.

Who can join? Lionsonoz prefers potential members to have had a Lions background. Most of our members have transferred from existing Lions Clubs, and when their travelling days are completed, we encourage them to return to a Lions Club in their local area.

Are there joining requirements ? Lionsonoz requires its members:

To have an email address

To be computer literate

To be comfortable with Skype (or prepared to become so)

To be travelling or away from home for a significant part of year

To accept Club rules and procedures

To participate in regular monthly meetings

Does Lionsonoz raise funds ? Lionsonoz is not a fundraising club. Instead, members are encouraged to make contact with the Lions Clubs in the communities they pass through and assist with their service and fundraising activities. We do have a limited number of activities where we are able to assist others through service without raising funds.

Does Lionsonoz charge fees? Lionsonoz requires an annual fee that is currently $130.00. While this may be paid half yearly, an annual payment is preferred.

Are there other fees? Lionsonoz does not charge a joining fee but you would be expected to pay for your dinner badge (approx $15.00) and any other club supplies you might want. Periodically an order is placed for club T shirts and these currently cost approx $32.00 (+ postage) Lion Stewart Payne Membership Chairman Australian Lionsonoz

Community Service of the Year. Traralgon Lions Service Club of the Year Award. Australia Day Awards Kernot Hall Morwell. Traralgon Lions have been servicing the community for 46years; they are widely respected and recognised within the City and region. During a hectic 12 months the club has held wonderful functions such as the annu-al senior citizens Christmas party, entertaining 200 plus who loved being spoilt for the day. Around 5,000 people enjoyed a fabulous Carols in the Park making the most of the Lions Sound Shell for another Christmas sensa-tion, of sight, sound and fellowship. A major monthly attraction is the Lions organised Farmers Market held in the beautiful Kay street gardens with over 40 stall hold-ers embracing the masses of shoppers from all over the Latrobe Valley. Members are still strong supporters of those affected by the Black Saturday bushfires, beautification and Tree planting within Doorty Park, along with financial support for palliative care and Traralgon Special Development School, are some of the recent activi-ties of the club, along with our major Charity Westpac Golf Day. The Lions are well recognised in the City appearing regularly to support the various charitable causes such as the Latrobe City Eisteddfod, the Big Red Bus project, Camp Quality along with special items such as a Defibrillator for the Traralgon Golf club and as a safety item for the Lions function Trailer used at the Farmers market and smaller BBQ’s, Carols etc...

Australia Day Awards Kernot Hall Morwell. Latrobe City Citizen of the Year 2013 Was awarded to PCC Lion Allan Vickery. He has worked tire-lessly for the community for many years in a wide variety of ways. Our very own and well-known local Traralgon Lions club member scooped this amazing recognition during a gala presentation which acknowledged the wonderful vision dis-played by Lion Allan in so many projects he has developed and seen all the way through from the drawing board to fruition. PCC Lion Allan has been awarded some of the highest Lions awards already, both locally and international over more than 40 years, so its beaut to see the wider Gipps-land community also giving him well deserved support and acknowledgment. Lion Allan co-ordinated Major entertainment Parks such as Newman with all the great BBQ’s, Toilets and access for all children’s playground equipment, Doorty with the beautifica-tion tree growing programs and Victory Park, with the fantastic sound shell, Charity Golf Days, Family Fun days in the Park, Farmers Market for all to enjoy and benefit from. Christmas Carols always finish off a very busy year for the Lions and families comes in their thousand’s to enjoy this spectacular event. As a footnote, not many know Lion Allan has been of ill health lately and was still in hospital during the awards and he still pushed on to attend the presentation, a shining example to all of how dedicated this gentleman is.
