Somewhere beyond the sea,Somewhere, waiting for me,My lover stands on golden sandsAnd watches the ships that go sailing;
Somewhere beyond the sea,She's there watching for me.If I could fly like birds on high,Then straight to her arms I'd go sailing.
From www.wikipedia.com: "Beyond the Sea" is a 1946 contemporary pop song with music taken from the song "La Mer" by Charles Trenet and lyrics by Jack Lawrence. Trenet's French version was an homage and ode to the changing moods of the sea, while Lawrence, by just adding one word "Beyond" to the title, gave him the start whereby he made the song into one of a lover pining for a lost love.
It has been recorded by many artists, including Benny Goodman, Mantovani, Roger Williams and Gisele MacKenzie, but Bobby Darin's version released in 1959 is the best known by many, reaching #6 on the Billboard Hot 100. .

Program: Galveston Gal Jan Johnson November is Rotary Foundation Month
From www.galvestonislandgal.com: Fifth generation Galvestonian Jan Johnson has been seriously studying the Island's rich history as a part-time Tour Guide since 1982. A direct descendant of two 1900 Storm survivors, her interest in her Island heritage was born when her mother, Dorris Stechmann Johnson, became secretary to John Garner's Historic American Buildings Survey in 1966-67.
Jan earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at the University of Houston in 1986 with a 3.94 GPA. In 1995, she attained her Masters of Art in Literature when she researched and wrote the history of Galveston's Little Theatre, 1922-1942. She took the full time "free fall with free lancing" in May 2000.
Her stories have been published in various local publications such as WHEREHouston, the Galveston County Daily News, Twisted Parrot, Centex's Our Place magazine, and on Guidry News Service. In September 2004, Jan completed more scholarly research on "The Reymershoffers: Early Texas Czech Entrepreneurs" for the Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International's newsletter, Nase rodin.
Walking Historic Galveston: A Guide to its Neighborhoods is her first book. Based on her driving tours, this practical guide offers walker-friendly routes of the city's most concentrated historic areas with interesting anecdotes about the people of their past.
From www.rotary.org: November is Rotary Foundation Month. Your support of the Annual Programs Fund through the Every Rotarian, Every Year initiative makes it possible for The Rotary Foundation to continue its work of Doing Good in the World.
By contributing to the Foundation, you help support the Foundation's six areas of focus, which help to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.
By giving $100 dollars a year through the Every Rotarian Every Year (EREY) initiative, you become a Rotary Foundation Sustaining Member.
