Non-English Speech Contests at District Level District 97P has been granted to officialy exercise the Non-English speech contests at District
Level since 2014. Here is the proposal that was approved by Toastmasters International:-
“Proposal to Conduct Non-English Speech Contests at District Level (May 31, 2014)
1. OBJECTIVE
1.1 The objective of this paper is to recommend to District 97 Provision Executive Committee the adoption of non-English (Thai) Speech Contests at District level.
2. BACKGROUND
2.1 In 2006-2012, the First Thai Toastmasters Club was the only Thai club in Division T in Thailand. The Thai Speech Contests (Humorous, Evaluation, International and Table Topics) were conducted for five consecutive years within this club. In 2013, the Nakornthon Thai Toastmasters Club was chartered. Since then, Division T has consisted of two Thai Clubs.
2.2 In 2014 The Show Case of Thai Speech Contests was first conducted
at Area Level. However, the Champion and 1st Runner up could not move up to District level unlike the Mandarin clubs which are in China Mainland, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, and Singapore.
3. PROPOSAL
3.1 In accordance with Toastmasters International Policies & Protocol Policy 6.0 on Speech Contests, District may conduct up to four non-English speech contest Interests each year. Extraction of Policy 6.0 is in Annex A.
3.2 All contests conducted must go through to District level. Club contestants advance to Area contests for their Toastmasters assigned Areas. Similarly, Area contestants advance to Division contests for their Toastmasters assigned Divisions.
4. ADVANTAGES
4.1 With higher number of new chartered clubs, we create more outstanding contestants To compete and to become District Champions for Thai Speech Contests.
5. CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION
5.1 In view of the above considerations, we recommend that District 97 Provision (D97P) Executive Committee adopt our proposal to conduct non-English Speech Contests Humorous, Evaluation, International and Table Topics at District level. ……………………

The longest membership ever Toastmasters member
Congratulations to DTM Pichai Likhitdechasakdi a
member who joined Toastmasters 34 years ago! He has continued to be a loyal member throughout that time. It was way back in 1982 that DTM Pichai visited one of Toastmasters clubs and was so inspired that he joined there and then becoming a member for all these years. He told us that he was grateful to his English teacher Pittan Karass who introduced him to the warm and welcoming club where Mr. Pittan himself was a chartered club president.
DTM Pichai also mentioned that Siam Toastmasters club had been his second home for all those years. He always felt warm and happy every time he came to the club meetings and activities. It is a club that he can learn and feel the heartfelt love from friends, members and guests. His principles of holding his membership there gave him growth and opportunities.
With his passion in Toastmasters, DTM Pichai was a chartered member of First Thai Toastmasters club and participated in many Toastmasters activities. He was an Inter-Club speech champion, Inter-club Evaluation champion and a Inter-Club Debate champion. He is currently District Parliamentarian (2016-2017) which has the role and responsibilities as follows:-
- Assist the District Director with planning & conducting district meetings - Interpret Toastmasters bylaws and policies - Review district operating procedures as requested by District Director - Ensure all meetings follow proper protocol
Good luck to you, DTM Pichai. See you around!

"Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year " On this festive occasion I would also like you all to have a happy and joyous time. Enjoy all the activities that will be presented at this year’s New Year theme that will be announced soon.
Here is a note for the New Year. On 15th January, there will be a club officer training session no 2 at the Christian University, Bangkok. Following on will be the "Leadership Forum" in the afternoon. It will be a special and beneficial meeting for District 97P as all international leaders from Region 11 and Region 14 will be in attendance sharing their long time experiences in their leadership Toastmasters journeys. Club officers and members are all welcome on this most interesting occasion.
Next, we are to achieve our goal. To become a President’s Distinguished District is very challenging and we have six more months to make it happen. I am strongly confident that together we can do it. We need 58 paid clubs (including new clubs), 2,558 payments (including April due renewals) and 27 distinguished clubs to be a President’s Distinguished District.
- Our current status : 49 paid clubs, 1,190 payments and - distinguished clubs. - Our Task is to fill up more of 9 paid clubs (including new clubs), 1,368 payments
(including April due renewal) and 27 distinguished clubs. Then, District 97P Annual Conference (20-21 May 2017) - tickets are now available. Don't miss the early bird tickets. It is a great opportunity to learn more in the conference especially when Darren Tay Win Jie, the 2016 World Champion Public Speaking will be with us. (https://www.facebook.com/TMD97P2017conf/)
Lastly, I would like to thank you all leaders and members who kindly volunteer to spread the benefits of joining Toastmasters to more people every day. Especially, I feel grateful to club leaders in remote areas like Yangon, Laos, Cambodia and clubs in provincial areas of Thailand and Vietnam for serving and making those clubs survive and strong.
