I'm pleased to share this new service being offered by the District. What a great way to live the tenet "Will it be beneficial to all concerned?"
Yours In Rotary Service,
Susan

President’s Message
During these more difficult economic times we must encourage and lend a hand to our own members. We do so much for others but without retaining our membership and having fun, there would be no base from which to help others.
Vision Statement
A few sample listings
Phone Sales - Thousand Oaks Insurance Sales - Oak Park Edward Jones - Thousand Oaks
Editor’s Note: As you can see, these are listings that are out of our area. Lets get a few of our own listings included
in this list. As I recall, Edward Jones and Morgan Stanley might have positions available locally.
Rotary gives us a chance to flourish personally by doing things we would be unable or unwilling to do otherwise:
Feed the homeless and the infirm.
Participate in club fundraisers in such ways as pouring beer, parking cars, selling raffle tickets, passing water
out at 10K run waystations, etc.
Help ameliorate intolerable conditions in Haiti, Samoa, Sumatra, South Africa, the Philippines or Malawi.
Honor family members, special school teachers, outstanding community leaders.
Serve in leadership roles in a prestigious international organization.
Attend first-class presentations of leadership essentials free.
Have continual access to and contact with moral, fair, honest people.
Members forget that we aren’t in Rotary just to help others. We have unprecedented chances to improve our own
lives, to raise our own qualifications as persons of character. We raise our Rotary Awareness by how we conduct
ourselves and how we view others. It is impossible to quantify what Rotary does for us, never mind for others. In a
global society which is more and more aware of the internationality of mankind, World Understanding is more and
more important. I can write with pride that our district “gets it.”
It’s this sort of Rotary Awareness by the communities of our fellow citizens that keeps our clubs going, that gives
us the chance, at least, to grow as the years pass.
I urge all our members to get the word out to a disadvantaged public which does not have the exposure to self-
improvement we do. Let’s get the best of them into our clubs.
District Governor’s Message
A plug for PRLS would be appropriate here. A perfect way to “improve our own lives, to raise our own qualifications as
persons of character.”

Rotary Hygiene Kits
In February and March Rotarians are asked to bring to club meetings extra unopened hygiene products and toiletries that they have accumulated from hotel stays. These include soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, tooth brushes, tooth paste, combs, mouthwash, and hand sani-tizer. In April these items are sorted, and the club adds wash cloths, disposable razors, and Four-Way Test/Object of Rotary wallet cards. Then a stuffing party is held. One or more (depending upon the amount collected) of each of these items is stuffed into a Ziploc bag. In May half of these hygiene kits are given to the Good Samaritan Homeless Shelter, and half given to Domestic Violence Solutions.
Please help fill John Hennings bucket.
Volunteers Still Needed!
SAVE THE DATE: March 18, Thursday night, 6:00 pm: Joint Meeting at the Radisson with the
three SM Clubs and Nipomo Club. This is in place of our regular meeting on Tuesday March 16, and
spouses/guests are encouraged to come. Guest speaker will be Pat Cusack, SM Honda/Toyota/Saturn co-
owner. Cost will be $35 per person, prepaid.
We need volunteers for:
1. TWO Sergeants-at-Arms – this is to help during seating and registration.
2. Each Club has a choice of static display or “Power Point” to promote / display its activities. Please con-
tact Susan if you will help assemble the displays.
DISTRICT ASSEMBLY

two District Assemblies in Ox- nard or Bakersfield. These are the

Cal Poly Men’s Soccer vs. UCLA
Dear Rotary Friends:
For those that didn’t attend our meeting yesterday (shame on you!), at the meeting we were invited by Men’s Head Soccer Coach Paul Holocher and Asst. Coach Ziggy Korytoski to come and join them for the ESPN’s nationally televised soccer match on Friday, September 17, 2010. Coaches Paul & Ziggy said that if we could put together a group to attend that they would help us with special seating and other neat stuff.
So, please indicate below if you would like to attend and respond with an email to indicate the number of adults and students that might attend (NOTE: This is merely a straw poll at this time. We aren’t asking for a firm commitment, but I would like to provide them an estimate so they can begin planning for us.) If you have never seen a Men’s soccer match at Cal Poly, you are in for a treat as they have a huge following and they are a very competitive team (beat UCLA in 2008 in NCAA playoffs!).
Number of adults to attend? __________
Number of students to attend? __________
Please email me your response by the end of business, Monday, February 1, 2010!!!
Sincerely,
Scott W. Dunn
