The Road to Lower Drug Costs: Right Way vs Wrong Way Tuesday, June 25 12:00-2:00 PM Medical Society DE High drug prices have been much in the news. The issue even affects faith communities, since many church members are older and more likely to be using pharmaceutical products.

Clergy, parish nurses and other faith community leaders are invited to a program sponsored by the broad coalition, We Work for Health Delaware. This is a great opportunity to learn about impending threats to Medicare and beneficial proposals that would reduce out-of-pocket costs for patients at the pharmacy counter. The program, will be offered at the Medical Society of Delaware.

The presenters will discuss the current controversy surrounding the Medicare program as well as the related discussion of pharmaceutical costs in the USA.

Please rsvp to [email protected]

Older Citizens: Possible Medicare Sudsidy Possible The Social Security Administration has sent letters to people enrolled in Medicare who may be eligible for, but not yet receiving, the Low Income Subsidy (LIS) for Medicare Part D (sometimes known as Extra Help) and the Medicare Savings Programs (MSPs). These additional benefits help many older Americans to manage better their health costs.

The letters identify those likely eligible for these two programs based upon their Social Security benefit. However, not all letter recipients may be eligible for the subsidies as they may have other sources of income or assets. It is important that Medicare enrollees consider their eligibility, since many enrollees have limited assets and can use additional assistance

Peace With Justice In The Middle East “One Day Honey, One Day Onions: Life in Palestine” Wednesday, July 10 7:00 PM St. Stephens Lutheran As United Methodists know, Peace With Justice Sunday will be observed on Trinity Sunday, which this year is June 16.

This year, the emphasis on Peace With Justice Sunday is the situation in the Middle East. The United Methodist Church has become increasingly involved in trying to promote a just peace in this war-torn land. Through the United Methodist Kairos Response, clergy and laity from conferences all over the nation have brought the plight of Palestinians, including Palestinian Christians, living under Israeli occupation to public attention.

We are invited to an enriching presentation by Dr. Michael Connor, hosted by Delawareans for Palestinian Human Rights. The program, entitled “One Day Honey, One Day Onions: Life in Palestine,” offered at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, 1301 North Broom Street, Wilmington, Delaware 19806.

Dr. Connor is a retired biostatistician who leads the Palestine Ministry at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Salisbury, North Carolina. He will talk about the struggles and frustrations of Palestinians living in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. All are invited to learn what daily life is like for Palestinians. Dr. Connor will also share testimonies of Jewish, Christian and Muslim “living stones,” who experience hope, despite decades of conflict.

Please RSVP to [email protected].

This presentation is cosponsored by St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church, Delaware Churches for Middle East Peace, Delaware Episcopalians for Middle East Peace, and Pacem in Terris.

Conference Council on Young Adult Ministries CCYAM is looking for young adult leaders who are willing to organize and serve in young adult ministries during the

2019-2020 term.

CCYAM is a council within the Peninsula Delaware conference, and is led by young adults for young adults. Over the course of the year the CCYAM will plan local mission, fellowship, and worship opportunities for young adults.

The goal of CCYAM is to bring together active young adult ministries in local congregations, and young adults without a strong network to come together for ministry opportunities. Some of the current ministries of the CCYAM include an active blog, mission experience to Colombia, and day of fun at Camp Pecometh.

Many of the roles and responsibilities of the CCYAM are new, so young adults who are servant leaders and are flexible to changes are important. Members of the CCYAM will help develop and execute the vision for young adult ministry for the Annual Conference.

The CCYAM will have at least one young adult from each district within the conference. CCYAM strives to be comprised of individuals of diverse ages within the young adult scope, race and genders. This is an inclusive body and all young adults are encouraged to apply.

Lumina Arts Photo Fridays Fridays 3rd Floor Grace UMC The Artist’s Way Creative Cluster participants will be adding photos throughout the remaining weeks of the course, so stay tuned for more! In Julia Cameron’s book, she likens creative inspiration to a mighty river. Separate from ourselves, connected to the Source, the flow is waiting to be tapped into. When we find this river and can embrace the journey of where it will take us, rapids and all, we see how creativity truly is a spiritual practice.

Donated Laptops Still Needed Methodist Conference in Liberia In July I wrote to ask for donations of used laptops (with their power cords) to be donated for use in Liberia in connection with the partnership between Asbury UMC in Smyrna and the Methodist Conference in Liberia. The response was good but we have learned that they need at least 10 more. The laptops will be completely wiped of all files including the operating system and Windows 10 will be installed.

The computers are being used to set up a learning center to provide computer training and office skills to enable graduates of the program to obtain employment. The average salary for these jobs is $200 per month which is very little by our standards but a hugh blessing to those in Liberia.

If you have laptops which can be donated I will be happy to arrange to pick them up. If you are in Smyrna area, they could be dropped off at Asbury UMC Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Please contact me, Lois Bowers, via email or by phone at 302-659-2910 if you have any questions or have laptops to be picked up.
