Happy September!

Editor’s LetterApproximately one year ago today I started District Magazine with

some fabulous ladies. And what a journey it has been. We are publishing our second “September Issue” with Kelly Wynne {eek!} as our cover girl. I honestly can say I was not planning on District

lasting this long. I mean I started the magazine before college started so I assumed it would get lost in the shuffle but thanks to an amazing group of contributors, editors, and of course the wonderful Pacelli we have been going strong. This month we are focusing a lot on fashion, because it’s September and that’s what everyone does. We have an awesome piece on Fall Trends and how to recreate them as well as a one-dress-three-ways piece. We rounded up the best brooches as they are the biggest accessory trend from the runways this past spring. And we have an article on what a day in the life of a fashion blogger is like; and being a fashion blogger it is very accurate. I do not know if you know this, but it is Beyonce’s birth month so we have done a small tribute to the queen on pages 14 & 15, as always we have our “Good Food in Good Places” and a list of things to do in Paris if you are there for #PFW. Now back to the cover girl, Kelly Wynne is a serious inspiration to any young woman {or man} in the fashion industry. She is headquarterd right by The University of Texas {Pacelli & I’s school} so it was amazing getting to know her. As always, remember to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, and that

District is “your right to a beautiful life.”

Music

The Names // Baio // Chris Baio, bassist of the indie band Vampire Weekend, makes dance music on the side under the name Baio. This September, Baio will be releasing his debut album, “The Names” which contains, “Bowie and Ferry-influenced pop songs and…techno.” This will be the first full length feature album for Baio, who’s put out two self-titled EPs in the past. If The Names lives up to Baio’s statement, it’s sure to be a hit with wine nights and cozy apartment parties with a group of close friends

Honeymoon // Lana Del Rey // Honeymoon, set to release September 18th, will be Lana Del Rey’s fourth studio album. Her single, “Honeymoon,” car-ries a soft and dreamy tone reminiscent of her first two albums. The final feature on Honeymoon is set to be a cover of “Don’t Let Me Be Misun-derstood,” Lana stating in an interview that “[she] likes sum-marizing the record with a jazz song.” Honeymoon is sure to be a perfect album to close out sunny days and listen to when you need a break from a hectic day. .

Picking Up the Pieces // Jewel // Picking Up the Pieces is Ameri-can singer-songwriter Jewel’s twelfth studio album. Jewel is recognizable for her folk-inspired pop songs. After the birth of her son, divorce from her husband, and struggling to find a niche in either children’s music or country, Jewel’s using her coming album to mark a return to the folk in-spired pop songs that once put her at the top of the charts. For anyone who was a fan of her ear-lier work (ahem, dad) this album won’t disappoint.

12 Things You Didn’t Know About...

Beyonce is someone who so much to so many people. She is an artist, a style icon, ---, and an overall queen {we’re not

biased at all}. She started her career so young and has stayed an important part of popular culture basically her entire life. We feel that only Beyonce could release an album with no hype and do so well with it. Since her birthday is just two short days away from this publicaiton time, we thought we would honor Sasha Fierce with 12 things you might not have known about her.

No1 She loves pizza, in fact, Sunday is

her pizza day.

She wrote about her 2010 beak from performing an a 2011 Essence cover story titled, “Eat, Pray, Love.” The piece won an award from the New York Associaton of Black Jour-nalists.

At 7, she beat 15 and 16-year-olds in a talent show by singing John Lennon’s “Imagine.”

In 2007, she became the first non-athlete/supermodel to cover Sports Illustrated’s Swumsuit issue.

She records all of her interviews with journalists and keeps them in her archives. This way if there’s ever any discrepancy when it comes to being quoted she is ready.

Mathew Knowles, her father, made her sing while running a mile in order to build her endurance.

Her bodyguard, Shortie, once broke her toe during a shopping trip to Macy’s in NYC. He was trying to guard her from fans when he lost his balance & stepped on

her foot.

As a child, Beyonce charged houseguests five dollars to watch her perfom.

She is allergic to most perfumes. The fragrances she wears have to be chemically altered to make sure she doesn’t have an allergic reac-

tion.

Beyoncé suffered from depres-sion for two years, but didn’t share it with the media since it was around the time that DC

won their Grammy.

She is a generous person. Beyoncé joined former Destiny’s Child bandmate, Kelly Rowland, to create the

Survivor Foundation, which provides relief to victims of natural disasters. Also built the Knowles Temenos Place Apartments in the greater Houston area.

Jay Z & Beyonce didn’t hit things off immediately. The two spoke on the phone a year be-fore Jay Z worked up the nerve

to ask her out.

WHITE ON WHITE

There are so many different trends for this Fall, but we have highlighted the ones we saw the most over the broadest of runways. Personally we are excited about the menswear, sixties, and white on white. But there is something for everyone

including the blackest of black coats, skirts, tights and the brightest of bright suits, dresses and shoes. So get out there, throw on a leather jumper or a navy peacoat and hit the streets; you got this girl.

from Charlotte Russe. It’s a navy dress with bright colored flowers scattered across the entire dress. The dark color makes it easy to transform into a winter or fall look. Once you’ve found your perfect summer sundress, the creativity begins. Grab your favorite accessories and start pairing them together. This is such a fun step because you can interchange accessories to create a brand new look, without having to go buy a new head-to-toe outfit every time the leaves change. The Summer Look is by far the easiest. If you’ve picked out a sundress and own a pair

August came and went, along with our long summer days and tiny triangle bikinis.

For those of you who just aren’t ready to pack up the sundresses and sandals, I’ve got the perfect solution for you. Being able to transform a summer wardrobe into a winter one is easy, although it never seems that way without some direction or inspiration. Sure, we’ve got Pinterest, but are our style boards really a good representation of our actual closet? Probably not. For us twenty-somethings, we have to get a little crafty (and frugal). Step one - grab your favorite sundress. Virtually any dress will work. As long as it’s lacking sleeves and isn’t a “lets go out to the club at 11 pm” kind of fitting dress. Think flirty and flowing for this look.

favorite knit sweater, and some of my Rocksbox jewelry. If you’re residing in an especially cold climate, throw on some nude pantyhose or bright colored tights. The Fall Look is so fun because we get the opportunity to break out our booties and scarves. As much as the twenty something enjoys summer, the “basic” side of us yearns for fall (and Pumpkin Spice Latte’s). This look is great for those days where it’s not too hot, but not to cold, and the leaves are slowly changing from a bright green to a soft yellow. I’m throwing a light blouse over my sundress and bringing in some fall colors with my necklace. Some great go-to accessories for changing up an outfit can most likely be found around your bedroom.

Pull out that scarf you were obsessed with last fall and tie it around a cute bag. Stack some gold necklaces around your neck or pair a bright statement necklace with a solid shirt. Add a cardigan to a classic jeans + tee look. The possibilities are endless and this is the perfect way to unleash some fashion creativity!

of sandals, you’re pretty much set. Throw on a hat or sunglasses and you’re well on your way to a perfect Labor Day weekend vacation #ootd. With this look, less is more. Let the sundress be your main focus and allow dainty jewelry to subtly surround the look. I usually wear some statement earrings, like the ones in this photo, and a small ring. The Winter Look is one you can really get creative with. There are so many winter accessories that can help transform your summer sundress - cute tights, knee high boots, knit sweaters and chic trench coats. The possibilities here are really endless. more.

How do you come up with your designs? Where do you draw ideas form?

There are 3 key places where I gather wynnespiration… 1) My favorite place to gather inspira-tion is out in the Texas Hill Country. My family has a place an hour and half out-side of Austin. There I can truly focus on my designs and clear my head. 2) I’m always developing new ideas from my travels. I bring a sketchpad with me, so that if a design idea hits me, I won’t forget! As you know, I’m on the road, traveling A LOT!3) New York! My trips to NYC are always CRAZY! I run from one meeting to the next, meeting with new suppliers, devel-oping new ideas and concepts, it’s im-possible not to be inspired in this place where “dreams are made of”.

What insipred you to start Kelly Wynne?Designing handbags has been a lifelong dream of mine. I recently found a photo from when I was 10 years old wearing a handbag! I began “collecting” them, always asking for a new handbag for my birthday. My mom heavily influenced me as she has been a lover of accessories for as long as I can remember. We used to email each other photos of the latest Tory Burch or Kate Spade design, and ooh and ahh over them! Fashion has simply always been a passion. I moved to Dallas after graduating from Ole Miss and began working for a boutique Public Relations firm. I was fortunate to be in the PR/graphic design business before starting Kelly Wynne. I learned how to brand a company and designed my own logo and marketing materials. After three years in the business, I knew I had to break free and at least try to follow my passion. During my lunch break, I would visit fabric stores and explore. I took sewing classes, bought a sewing machine, went to leather shops, and asked a million questions. I developed a business plan, and I talked to as many designers in the industry as possible trying to learn their story. It took me a year to find all the right suppliers and manufacturer to produce Kelly Wynne handbags. I started my company in April 2013 with my first collection. Each bag is sketched & designed by me,

made by hand in New York by skilled craftsmen. I create

the unique designs of my leathers, and travel to NYC frequently to collaborate with my leather suppliers. I have “worn all of the hats” since starting my business, which I have found to be invaluable when hiring new people to join the KW family. Every day is different and that’s one of the things I love about this business!

29

30

31

32

33

Where do you see Kelly Wynne Designs in five years?I would like to design additional Kelly Wynne products …jewelry, scarves, even-tually shoes, etc. I have lots of ideas, and I hope one day I can make them come to life. I would like to open a flagship store in Austin. We also want to continue ex-panding to boutiques across the U.S. as well as collaborate with a big box store. So much has happened in the last two years we’ve been in business, it ex-cites me to think about 5 years from now!

How would you define your personal style?Classic with a twist!

Do you have any plans to expand your brand into other accessories? My friend’s used to call me the “accesso-ries queen” in college. I love accessoriz-ing because it’s the best way to jazz up an outfit! I would love to expand into jewelry next, but I want to develop my handbag collections first. Every girl needs a great handbag, and we want Kelly Wynne to be there go-to brand!!

What has been your biggest obstacle yet? There have been so many obstacles, but one of the biggest I’ve encountered is not letting other people’s opinions influence my designs. Of course it’s great to receive feedback, but I have so many people tell-ing me to “do this, do that, don’t do this” etc! If I listened to all the “voices” my de-signs would be a jumbled mess! It’s very challenging to stay focused in this indus-try where everyone is so opinionated.

34

35

36

37

What is your favorite thing about Autumn?I love gathering around a bonfire with family and friends! The crisp autumn air is just the best. Who doesn’t love a good ole-fashioned s’more?!

Do you have any traveling planned for the next few months?Yes! I will be traveling every two weeks this fall for either a trunk show, speaking engagement, market, or to meet with a potential boutique. I will be on the road quite a bit! I love it, but I do miss my husband and pup, Fonzi when on the road so much. However, it’s important for me to travel to educate as many women as possible about our emerging brand!

Any advice for someone who wants to pursue their dream? Fear seems to be one of the main things that hold people back from pursuing their dream. It’s very hard starting your own business—much harder than I ever imagined, but you shouldn’t let fear hold you back. My advice would be: Don’t be embarrassed to ask questions. Be curious! It truly is the best way to learn. Be persistent and never give up. There will definitely be days you want to give up, but kick fear in the bootay and just keep moving forward! It’s worth it!

You’re featuring some of your new Fall looks in District this month! What was your biggest source of inspiration for this season? With inspiration drawn from the fun and glam-orous era of Studio 54, our new fall collec-tion is called Studio 15! Dance the night away with handbags made of dreamy prints, velvety soft suede, and funky metallics that express an undeniably fun and fabulous 70s vibe! We’re stayin’ alive with earthy hues of amber, cranber-ry, chocolate and navy. This new collection is the ultimate in retro luxe! I was also heav-ily influenced by The Me Decade, which goes hand in hand with the era of Studio 54. We’re encouraging custom-ers to embrace their individualism and need for self-expression, and indulge in this groovy collection of handbags. Free your spirit and boogie with us at Studio 15!

As a fashion blogger and college student my days are constantly evolving and changing however, I do have a

{sort of} consistent schedule that I try to stick to every day. When I am consistent in my routine I am more likely to be productive and successful. 6:30-7:30am: The first thing I do in the morning is turn off all my alarms and scroll through Instagram and Facebook. I know that is bad but looking at a bright screen helps to wake me up in the morning. I always make sure that I have one hour from the time I wake up until the time I need to leave my house. One hour is the perfect amount of time to get up, eat breakfast and get ready for the day. Tip: always plan out your outfit the night before because it will save you so much time in the morning. 8:00-10:00am: This semester I am taking community health from 8:00-10:00am. During this time I try to devote all my time to studying and taking notes but sometimes Pinterest just happens to come onto my computer screen and I don’t know how it got there… 10:00am-12:00pm: I take pictures of absolutely everything. During this

time I can be found photographing my outfits,

A Day in the Life:Fashion Blogger By, Olivia of Style by Liv

editing pictures, answering emails or replying to the comments on my blog. As a student and a blogger I have a lot to do in a short amount of time. I usually try to get as much done as I can between classes and meetings. When I am sitting on the bus I am always checking my emails. When I am waiting outside of class I make sure to edit my photos with VSCOCam. {F2 is my favorite filter so I try to keep my blog and Instagram consistent with that one filter.} 12:00-3:00pm: During this time I usually have another nursing class to attend. As a nursing major it is sometimes very difficult to also be a fashion blogger because I feel as if I am leading two totally different lives. Although they may be different I am so lucky that I am able to spend my time pursuing two of my passions. 3:00pm - Once classes are over I usually head home and watch Project Runway or reruns of The Rachel Zoe Project while scrolling through my social media channels and interacting with my amazing followers. Once I am done with classes I usually have one meeting at night so I try to finish all of my homework and blog work before 8:00pm so that I have time to relax in bed with a cup of tea before starting my day all over again.

Breakfast at FauchonWhat a better way to start out Fashion Week than by people watching in a beautiful store? The window dressings are gorgeous. You can grab a coffee and chocolate croissant and eat in one of the windows in the cafe portion.

RoadingParis…Paris Fashion Week. I hope you heard the collective

sigh from women {and men} all over the world. It is such a beautiful city and then they add the beautiful clothes, models, and fashionistas, it is pure perfection.

Paris is in every guide book EVER, but some of these things are a little harder to find than your obvious Eiffel Tower and Musee de Louvre. There are certain cafes, stores, and places that have been Instagramed so many times you are sick of them. But these places are slightly off the beaten path and I have been to each of them. So when you jet set off to the City of Lights this September, check them out.

Off The top 10 places, you might not

know of, to visit in Paris during

PFW.

By, Hayden of Haute Table

Afternoon at the Sainte ChapelleHave some down time? Skip the line at Notre Dame and visit this tiny chapel on the Big Island. The chapel is gorgeous with floor to ceiling stained glass windows that make your mouth drop to the ground. You can spend the entirety of your time between shows whispering and gaping at their magnificence.

Walk through PrintempsBecause it is Fashion Week, you will need to grab some necesstieis from Paris...right? So head to Printemps, a magical store located on Boulevard Haussmann. Each brand has its own mini store inside the massive department store, and the clothing is gorgeous. Parisian women are causally shopping for Chanel, Louis Vuitton,

and so many others.

Afternoon snack at LadureeIf you have never heard of Laduree, I am not sure why you are reading this blog...I mean it was on Gossip Girl and it is everywhere in popular culture. Their macarons trump everyone else’s and the experience of buying them is interesting by itself. They will not let you take photos of their display cases {true story, I tried}. Each macaron has been baked with care and they come in the strangest flavors...like rose water {what does that even taste like...one hint AMAZING}. I went to the original on the Champs and loved every minute of it. They are like little jewels.

45

See the sunset atop the Arc de TriompheSome might say, this is incorrect, see the sunset from the Eiffel Tower, but NO. You go up in the Eiffel Tower during the day or at night. From the Arc you can see the Eiffel Tower, Montmartre and everything else during sunset, which is magical. The Arc is located at the center of one of those gorgeous spokes {a wonder in urban planning} and when the sun is setting it highlights how gorgeous the city really is. But make sure you have not had too many sweets yet because those steps can be STEEP. Pro tip: to get across the circle to the Arc, look for the stairs going below ground on each side of the Champs.

Afternoon on the Little Island {including a stop at Berthillon}The Ile St. Louis is a special place, where only extremely rich Parisians live. I am talking government officials and the like. But the shopping and delicious foods are so wonderful you must spend some time. If you go in March make sure you check out their version Carnival. Oh and what is Berthillon you ask? Only the greatest ice cream store on the face of the planet. Seriously.

Afternoon hot chocolate at AngelinaWant to feel your inner fashion girl? Head to Angelina’s, a hang out of Coco Chanels. The hot chocolate is VERY different than the Swiss Miss we have over here. It is thick and more like warm chocolate milk. It

is delicious but very rich. They even sell it in cute glass bottles for purchase. There are tons of pastries to be had as well. You can also watch all of the old school Parisian women having coffee and discussing the next show they will be attending. It is also conveniently located on Rue de Rivoli across from the Jardin des Tuileries.

Drink coffee at a cafe in Place des VosgesPlace des Vosges is one of my favorite places in Paris. It is a beautiful brick square with lots of little cafes, galleries, a square, and it has some serious history. While there I saw the quintessential Paris. A girl rode up on a bicycle wearing a stripped shirt, carrying a baguette in her basket, all she was missing was the beret. You have to sit and have a leisurely coffee because the people watching is second to none.

A visit to the Grand TrianonVersailles is great, do not get me wrong, I loved every gaudy minute of it. But back on the right corner of the property is Marie Antoinette special little palace. It is pink, has a miniature Hall of Mirrors, and a fantastic porch. Plus there is a branch of Angelina back there and sheep. It is a must visit.

Take the funicular to MontmartreI would suggest doing this during the day because the sky will be clear and you

will be able to see for miles. Plus the church is gorgeous! And there is a little tram you can take for the ultimate tour of Montmartre, that’s right you pass in front of the Moulin Rouge, complete with its windmill facade. If you are up for some fantastic people watching and laughs check out the Lapin Agile for some late night singing of French tunes and some strong shots.

Good Food in Good Places By, Sara of Sara Magnolia

Piquant French-inspired cuisine with mouth watering options for any meal of the day, or even a snack at the in-house patisserie, this spot should be added to your itinerary if you are in the Tampa Bay area. Whether you’re stop-ping in for a romantic dinner or brunch with friends you will be pleas-antly surprised to find there are options for all palates and even gluten free options that go above and beyond the normal accommodations. This hidden gem is nestled in the heart of historic Hyde Park offering indoor and patio dining which means it is pup friendly too!

Copperfish Seafod Grill & Oyster Bar For a sophisti-cated atmosphere and generous portions this is a seafood lov-ers heaven. The handcrafted drinks are the perfect addition to any meal especially when you can enjoy them in accompa-niment with the CopperFish oysters (pictured on the right) that are coated in herb oil, Parmesan & Romano. The weekly happy hour menu offers young professionals food items at affordable prices and half off cocktails, which is the perfect

combination after a long day in the office. Copperfish is located right off of Bayshore Boulevard that provides a beautiful view of the bay and a city skyline that is nothing short of breathtaking at sunset.

Tampa

Tampa, Florida

Poe’s Tavern Located right on the beach this tavern offers a twist on traditional southern dishes. The theme is fashioned after the famous author Edgar Allen Poe so expect cleverly named menu items here! This is the spot for those who can appreciate a heaping burger on their plate, but don’t worry there are salads and tacos too! The burger options are pretty unique, for example, a Charleston style crabcake on top of a burger! If you aren’t in the Atlantic Beach, Florida area don’t worry there is another location in Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina.

Atlantic Beach, FL

47

Comella’s Boasting twelve loca-tions across the MetroWest area this

family owned Italian restaurant has all the traditional dishes that your grandma used to make and is very conscious of those who have wheat allergies offering many gluten free options on their menus. This is perfect for lunch or dinner whether you are dining alone or getting enough to feed the whole family. The food never disappoints, always comes in gen-erous portions, and the staff is always extremely pleasant! If you’re in the greater Boston area find out if there is a location near you on their web-site and taste for yourself.

York River

Oyster Company Located at the York River Yacht Haven this quiet spot overlooks ships coming in and out of the marina in a quaint little town in Virginia. This spot offers a variety of creative seafood options and gluten free alternatives too. One of the best menu items is the Ahi Stack, yes it is gluten free, that contains sushi grade Ahi with avocado, spicy coconut crab meat, and delicious pineapple mango salsa all in a stack served with chips. If you’re lucky then you will make it in on a night

there is live local musical talent performing.

Nor’East Beer Gar-den For those adventurous

souls who find themselves at the extreme tip of Cape Cod, Massachusetts in the eclec-tic town of Provincetown, known fondly as P-Town by locals, you will surely find a peaceful escape from the bustling streets at the Nor’East Beer Garden. This is an open-air restaurant, that is bursting with color and sweet aromas from the blooming flowers, that offers seating at the bar or traditional tables. The hand-cut French fries are arguably the best item on the menu accompanied by a variety of aioli sauces such as sambal, cilantro, or confit garlic, that are handcrafted on site. There is something for everyone here from seafood to a hearty burger, not to mention the large assortment of beers and cocktails avail-able to those of age.

Provincetown, MA

Pearl Cape Cod, Massachusetts boasts a number of vacation spots

packed with tourists and fried seafood, but if you are looking for a quiet es-cape then you should try the Pearl on Wellfleet Harbor. This is a great family restaurant with indoor or patio seating and all of the freshest seafood op-tions the Cape has to offer. Pictured is a Caesar salad, minus the croutons, topped with a bountiful portion of lobster salad. This picturesque Wellfleet restaurant is the perfect stop for anyone visiting the area for traditional New England seafood options complimented by a harbor view.

Always Pack A Party Dress // Anthropologie

I want to read this book so bad! It is part style advice

part memories part life advice. Written by a woman who has done it all {she was

even a buyer for Barney’s New York}! It is a must-read for high-fashion and street-style aficionados {according

to the description}. HAYDEN

Howsty Nura Heels // Anthropologie II was scrolling through Anthropologie’s shoe section when these immediately jumped out at me! I love

the contrast of the colorful textile against the wide deep blue. After a trip to southern Mexico last

Winter, these shoes reminded me of the colorful houses lining the coast supplementing my obvious need for them with a personal reference – though

my parents still didn’t fall for it. PACELLI

You Pampered Thing, You // Packed Party

So I first saw this on ‘Prep in Your Step’ and instantaneously fell in love. The idea of these boxes {that you don’t know what exactly is

in them} being delivered to my or my friend’s doorsteps is so exciting. PLUS, their Instagram

is absolutely fabulous. HAYDEN

Braxton Coat // Kate SpadeAlthough September marks the beginning of Fall Fashion, living in Texas, our “Fall” is brief and comes much

later. However, that hasn’t stopped me from looking for pretty coats and cute sweaters. I first saw this coat on A Lonestar State of Southern’s Instagram account and thought it was perfect. I’ve been on the search for a girly, colorful coat for about a year now and this Braxton coat hits all the marks.

Tartan Frat Hat - Black // Southern Proper

I just purchased this hat about a week ago at Hin-ton & Hinton in Oxford, MS. I think it is so cute

& plaid is IN this fall. And it goes with everything. HAYDEN

Chelsea & Violet Floral Embroidered Dress // Dillards

I love Dillard’s Chelsea & Violet brand. The attire ranges from bright colors to

soft hues yet all maintain a certain femininity to them. I actually tried this dress on right before moving back to Austin, and I re-gret not buying it so badly, the webpage is open on both my lap-

top and desktop. The neckline and style of the dress elevate it from the simple sundress making it perfect for garden weddings and lunch dates.
