British Broadcasting Corporation was unhapp with the quality of the transmission and onlreluctantly allowed him to use their
transmitters.
Initially BBC used competing EMIs electronic
scanning system and BAIRDs mechanicalsystem , on alternating weeks.
Eventually , EMIs system was clearly shown to
be more reliable and better quality thaBAIRDS mechanical system.

No one can deny that color adds important
dimension to television communication.
It gives more real experience than black-and-whiteTV.
Today there is color television everywhere ,it hasbecome rare to see a black-and-white television.

In 1976, Home Box Office (HBO) made historyby initiating satellite delivery ofprogramming to cable with theheavyweight boxing match know as The
Thriller From Manila
Also in 1976, as a result of private
experiments with video transmission fromcommunications satellites, the first
consumer Direct To Home (DTH) SatelliteSystem was created in a most unusualplace in the garage of Stanford UniversityProfessor and former NASA scientist

System sales soared as hardware pricesfell, and the idea of a practical DBSsystem was beginning to take shape.
The advantages to consumers wereabounding! There were many
satellites used by programmers, andconsumers could get programmingfrom almost all of them.
And because their programming camefrom multiple sources, it was often20-30% cheaper than cable.

A number of companies provide DBSand DTH service throughout the
world. In the United States, DirecTVand EchoStar are the main vendors.
DBS TV is also favored by urban andsuburban subscribers who are notsatisfied with the quality or quantityof TV programming available on
conventional cable.

And the quality was exceptional! That wasbecause the signal was first generation that is, directly from the programmers to
their homes providing a far superiorpicture and sound quality.
As with most new technological
advancements, the cost to the everydayconsumer was very high.
As the price came down, more peoplelooked to the multiple-channelcapabilities of satellite TV as analternative to cable.

Several cable programming providerslobbied the government, whichsubsequently introduced the 1984Cable Act, allowing them to encrypt(convert into code) their satellitefeeds. Scrambling systems were
developed so their signals were nolonger broadcast in the clear foreveryone with a satellite dish to pickup without any payment to the
program developers.

In the past few years few companies havebeen laying fiber optic cable that will
carry HD signals to homes across thenation.
Not only does HD produce the same quality
