With its quickest nine-inning home game of the season - two hours, seven minutes - Quad Cities evened the three-game series against Cedar Rapids and restored its Western Division first-place lead to two games over the Kernels and Burlington. KERNELS OUTLAST BANDITS, 1-0 IN 11 INNINGS: After 10 scoreless innings Tuesday, the Cedar Rapids Kernels loaded the bases with a single and two errors in the top of the 11th inning, and T.J. White hit a sacrifice fly to right field that was the only run of a 1-0 final over the Quad Cities River Bandits at Modern Woodmen Park. The River Bandits committed four errors in their first loss when out-hitting an opponent this season. Joe Musgrove went six relief innings but had errors on back-to-back bunts in the 11th inning to take the loss by allowing an unearned run. KERNELS VISIT BANDITS: The River Bandits are beginning their shortest scheduled season series (13 games) against a divisional opponent when Cedar Rapids commutes for three days to Modern Woodmen Park. The Kernels are in the third sea- son of an affiliation with the Minnesota Twins and have made the playoffs - bowing out against the eventual Midwest League champions - in each of their first two seasons as a Twins affiliate. In 2013, Cedar Rapids was a league-best 88-50 but was swept in two games by Quad Cities in the first round. In 2014, the Kernels won a three-game series against Burlington before being swept by Kane County in the Western Division final. Cedar Rapids last won the Midwest League championship in 1994. Since joining the Midwest League in 1962, Cedar Rapids has been affiliated with the Milwaukee Braves (1962), Cincinnati Reds (1963-64, 1980-92), St. Louis Cardinals (1965-72), Houston Astros (1973-74), San Francisco Giants (1975-79), and the Califor- nia/Anaheim/Los Angeles Angels (1993-2012). QUAD CITIES CONNECTIONS: Cedar Rapids’ major league affiliate, the Minnesota Twins, was Quad Cities’ major league affiliate from 1999 to 2004. During that time, current Kernels manager Jake Mauer and hitting coach Tommy Watkins each played for the River Bandits. In 2001, Watkins appeared in 73 games as an infielder and outfielder, hitting for a .230 average with two home runs and 16 RBIs. Mauer appeared in 84 games as an infielder in 2002, when he hit .226 with no home runs and 20 RBIs. Watkins reached the major leagues with the Twins in 2007 and played in the organization until 2009. Mauer, whose brother Joe Mauer also played for Quad Cities in 2002 and is in his 12th major league season with Minnesota, reached as high as Double-A while playing in the Twins organization through 2005. STARTING OFF RIGHT: The River Bandits started 12-3 for their best 15-game start since 2001, when the team started 13-3. The team’s 14-6 record is its best through 20 games since starting 14-6 in 2010. Quad Cities’ current 12-day run with sole pos- session of first place is the club’s longest in any half since the end of the 2010 season. LEADING THE WAY: Through 20 games, Quad Cities leads all Midwest League teams in home runs (15), total bases (260), bases on balls (94), times caught stealing (17), slugging percentage (.399), and on-base percentage (.354). As a pitching staff, the team leads the league lead in wins (14) and WHIP (1.09). Derek Fisher leads the league in home run rate (one per 12 at- bats) and slugging percentage (.604), and he is tied for the league lead in home runs (4); Mott Hyde leads the league in doubles (9) and is tied for the lead in extra-base hits (9); and Bobby Boyd leads the league in sacrifices (5). Joe Musgrove is tied for league lead in wins (3). Among Houston Astros minor league affiliates, Quad Cities has the most bases on balls, stolen bases (16) and times caught stealing on offense. The River Bandits also have the best record of any affiliate, the lowest ERA (2.46) the most saves (7), the fewest home runs allowed (3), and the fewest walks allowed (51). Musgrove is tied for the wins lead among Astros minor leaguers, and Jose Montero is tied for lead in saves (3).

LAST OUTING: SATURDAY, APRIL 25, VS. BURLINGTONWith a one-run lead to start the eighth inning, Dykxhoorn allowed a leadoff single to Michael Hermosillo, who went to second base on a groundout, to third on an infield hit and scored after drawing an errant throwing from first baseman Bryan Muñiz. In the ninth, Dykxhoorn began by striking out Natanael Delgado before Ryan Seiz and Brandon Gildea hit singles to left field on consecutive pitches. Right-hander Jose Montero came in and allowed both runners to score, beginning a five-run inning for the Bees in a 7-2 Burlington win and Dykxhoorn’s first loss.

Josh Bonifay- Manager (1st season) Josh Bonifay begins his first season as manager at Quad Cities after spending the last two years as manager at Rookie Level Greeneville. Bonifay, who joined the Astros in 2011 as Greeneville’s hitting coach, was named the Appalachian League Manager of the Year in 2013 after leading the club to a 38-30 record (second-best record in franchise history) and a berth in the Appalachian League Championship Series. Bonifay became the second Greeneville manager ever to win the the Applachian League Manager of the Year Award, joining Tim Bogar, who received the honor during the club’s inaugural season in 2004. An eight-year minor league veteran, Bonifay began his coaching career as a player/coach in the Pirates organization (2007-09) before joining the Astros in 2011. He served as hitting coach for Greeneville in 2011, and spent the 2012 season as hit-ting coach for Class A Lexington. While with the Legends, Bonifay was named to the South Atlantic League Postseason All-Star Team as a coach. Bonifay played in 812 minor league games in his career, which included a stint with Double A Corpus Christi in 2006. He was originally selected by the Pirates out of UNC-Wilmington in the 24th round of the June 1999 draft. He posted a .284 batting average with 133 homers and 516 RBI in his career.

Dave Borkowski - Pitching Coach (3rd season) Former Major Leaguer Dave Borkowski begins his third season as Quad Cities pitching coach after serving as Class A Lexington’s pitching coach from 2011-12 and Rookie Level Greeneville’s pitching coach in 2010. He also served as as pitch-ing coach for Peoria in the Arizona Fall League during the fall of 2013. Borkowski enjoyed a 15-year professional playing career, making 181 Major League appearances (21 starts) across seven combined seasons with Detroit (1999-2001), Baltimore (2004), and Houston (2006-08). His first professional season was in 1995 after being selected in the 11th round of the June 1995 draft by Detroit.In 264 career minor league games, Borkowski was 79-70 with a 3.85 ERA and six saves. Prior to retiring in 2009, he pitched in three games as a member of the Diablos Rojos of the Mexican League.

Joel Chimelis - Hitting Coach (3rd season) Joel Chimelis begins his 10th season in the Houston Astros organization and his third as hitting coach for Quad Cities. Chimelis served as the hitting coach for Double A Corpus Christi in 2012 after spending the 2011 season with Class A Lexington. Prior to that, he spent five years (2006-10) as the hitting coach for the Tri-City ValleyCats. Before joining the Astros, Chimelis spent two years (2004-05) on the coaching staff of the Class A Savannah Sand Gnats in the Washington Nationals organization. A former infielder, Chimelis was selected by Oakland in the 11th round of the 1988 draft. He was traded to the San Francisco Giants in 1991 and spent the 1996 season in the New York Mets organization. Chimelis reached the Triple A level in the Giants system, playing for Phoenix from 1992-95, and was called up to the Majors during the 1995 season. During his 13-year minor league ca-reer, he also enjoyed stints in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Korea and Canada.

Tim garland - outfield/Baserunning Development Specialist (1st season) Tim Garland returns to the Astros organization for his third season, and his first as a developmental specialist with the Quad Cities River Bandits. Garland, who spent the last two seasons as hitting coach at Double A Corpus Christi, will focus on the development of the River Bandits outfielders, as well as the baserunning for all players on the club. Prior to joining the Astros, Garland served as hitting coach for Double A Midland for two seasons from 2011-12. The 15-year minor league veteran made his coaching debut in 2006 with Class A Kane County before moving to Class A Advanced Stockton, where he served as hitting coach from 2007-10. During his career, the well-traveled outfielder also made stops at Long Island (Atlantic League), Winnipeg (Northern League Central), Amarillo (Central League), Sioux City (Northern League Central), Nashua (Atlantic League), Atlantic City (At-lantic League) and Jackson (Central League) before calling it a career in 2004.

Corey o’Brien - athletic Trainer (1st season) Corey O’Brien begins his fourth season with the Astros organization and his first as the athletic trainer at Quad Cities. O’Brien spent the 2014 season as the athletic trainer at Class A Short Season Tri-City following a two-year stint as trainer at Rook-ie Level Greeneville (2012-13). Prior to joining the Astros, he served as the athletic trainer for the Joliet Slammers, an Independent Professional Baseball team in the Frontier League. While with the Slammers, O’Brien was a part of a championship team that won the Frontier League cup in the team’s inaugural season.

Dwayne Peterson - Strength Coach (1st season) Dwayne Peterson enters his first season as the River Bandits’ strength and conditioning coach after his first season in the Astros organization in 2014 with Greeneville. Prior to joining the Astros, Peterson completed strength and conditioning internships with Northern Kentucky University and the College of Mount St. Joseph (Ohio). He graduated with a bachelor of science degree in exercise science from Northern Kentucky University in 2013, and he is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) as well as a USA Weightlifting (USAW) Level 1 Sports Performance Coach.
