Inthefallof2015weranaresearchpilotwithanon-profitorganiza7ontoproveahypothesisthathasbeenempiricallyverifiedrepeatedlyelsewhere1:diversitystrengthensinnova7on.Weini7allyproposedtoemployInterna'onally-TrainedProfessionalsorITPstobecome‘innova7onconsultants’toworkonreal-worldprojectsprovidedbycompaniesintheMetroVancouverarea.WhileitiswellknownthatqualifiedITPsbringawealthofskillsandknowledgethattheycanputtousealmostimmediatelyaMertheirarrival,theyarenormallysubjecttosub-employmentfor3-5yearsbecauseoflackoftheinfamous“CanadianExperience”.Weasked,“whatif,insteadofhavinginterna7onaltalentworkingsurvivaljobswhileaccumula7ngyearsof“Canadianexperience”,theycouldu7lizetheirexper7seandskillsrightawayinprofessionalprojects?”Theproposalincludedexploi7ngtheexis7ngskillsofITPs“asis”notindividually,butasagroupofprofessionalsthatwouldaddressproblemsandiden7fyopportuni7esforinnova7onu7lizingonecommonapproach:innova7onanddesignthinking.
