If you are unable to give to this weekend’s Share Life
Collection, you may place your donation in any Sunday basket;
bring it into the parish office; or give by way of credit card (by
visiting www.sharelife.org), before the end of July which is the
closing of the ShareLife Appeal for 2019. Our second major
collection for Share Life is 5 May. Thank you for your
generosity. To date we have collected $27,966 (38%) of our
Parish goal which is $71,800.
An email scam targeting parishioners in Catholic churches
across Canada is now active in the Archdiocese of Toronto. The
scam, previously reported by several other dioceses, has now
appeared in our own diocese with reports of at least one
parishioner who lost $300 to a fraudster pretending to be the
pastor of a parish. Several other dioceses had reported an email
scam in which Catholics have received requests, purportedly
from their parish priests, for iTunes gift cards. A false email
from a priest is sent asking for the electronic gift cards to be sent
to another address so that they may be given to someone in need.
Please exercise caution when checking email messages. Think
before you click or open attachments, and always verify suspect
messages by phoning the sender on a known phone number (not
the phone number in the suspect message).
Cardinal Collins has designated Friday, May 3, 2019 as the
Archdiocesan Day of Prayer for Vocations. We have three
prayer intentions on this day: for the right discernment of
vocations still unfolding; for endurance in committed
vocations; and for an increase of priestly and religious
vocations. Check poster for details. If you are unable to attend
this event, please take a moment to pray for vocations on
Friday, May 3. Vocation resources can be found on the Office
of Vocations’ website: www.vocationstoronto.ca.

REFLECTION
Isn't Divine Mercy a private devotion, which I don't have
to partake in?
One of the goals of the Second Vatican Council (1962- 1965)
was to complete our liturgical year celebrations and have them
match our Old Testament feast. The Easter Triduum (from
Holy Thursday evening to Holy Saturday), for instance,
images the Passover of the Jews. This feast of Mercy is the
fulfilment of the Old Testament Day of Atonement (see
Leviticus 16; 23:29-32 and Sirach 50) which was an annual
feast where all sins and punishment were washed away. The
Feast of Divine Mercy is an annual celebration, which, as
Jesus revealed, also has the promise of the total forgiveness of
sins and punishment.
How do we observe this Feast of Divine Mercy?
(1) Celebrate the Feast on the second Sunday of Easter; (2)
sincerely repent of all sins in the sacrament of Penance within
the week; (3) receive Holy Communion on the Feast day itself;
(4) venerate the Image of the Divine Mercy (a holy hour will
be held at St. Francis from 3 to 4 p.m.); (5) be merciful to
others through your actions, words, and prayers.
Jesus also told St. Faustina that on this feast day, God will pour
out a whole ocean of graces upon the souls who approach the
Fount of His Mercy.
When was this feast instituted?
This feast was instituted during the papacy of John Paul II
(1978-2005) who was its greatest proponent. He also died on
the vigil of Divine Mercy, 2 April 2005.

At the end of June we say farewell to Fr. Massimo Buttigieg,
who has served us faithfully at St. Francis de Sales. Fr.
Massimo was asked by Thomas Cardinal Collins to go to Rome
to pursue Licentiate studies in Canon Law for the next three
years. We will have a farewell party for Fr. Massimo on
Sunday 23 June after the 12 Noon Mass.
Succeeding Fr. Massimo is Fr. David Twaddle who is currently
the Associate Pastor at St. Barnabas in Scarborough. Fr. David
has been ordained for four years.
CWL SCHOLARSHIP HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP
The CWL offers a scholarship to a parishioner graduating high
school. The criteria is church/community service of the
