How to Build a DIY Pick-Shaped Guitar Hangers | PINSPIRATION MOMMY

DIY Pick-Shaped Guitar Hanger

Free woodworking plans to create custom, pick-shaped guitar hangers (these plans create the

backing to the guitar hangers, which can be purchased on Amazon or at a local music store).

TOOLS AND SUPPLIES:

Jig Saw Guitar Hangers Dark Walnut Wood Stain

Interior Water-Based Polyurethane Paint Pens Carbon Transfer Paper

1 half sheet 1/2″ Plywood

DIY GUITAR HANGER INSTRUCTIONS

1. Print a picture of the outline of a guitar pick in Microsoft Excel (this will allow you to

print the picture across multiple pieces of paper). Expand the pic to any size you like

(use the view ruler option in Excel so you can tell what the dimensions of your picture

are prior to printing). Once all pages have printed, align the pages so the picture lines

up and then tape the sheets of paper together.



2. Place a piece of carbon transfer paper on top of the ½ sheet of ½” plywood, and trace

the image of the guitar pick outline onto the plywood (trace as many copies as you plan

on making).



3. Use a jig saw to cut along the traced lines to cut out the guitar pick shaped pieces of

wood.

4. Sand until smooth.

5. Apply a coat of Dark Walnut Stain (or any stain of your choosing) and let dry.

6. While the stain is drying, print out copies of the images you want as the design on the

wood.

7. Place the printed images over the pick-shaped wood pieces and lightly tape the paper to

the wood pieces. Using a pen or pencil, trace the image, pressing hard enough to leave

an indentation on the wood pieces.



8. Once the entire image has been traced, fill in the traced image with the paint pens.



9. Once the paint has completely dried, coat each board in three coats of interior

polyurethane, letting each coat dry between applications.

10. Once the polyurethane is dry, install the purchased guitar hangers onto the wood

backing.
