Which course should I choose?Accelerated or Credit Recovery
Accelerated courses
• traditionally for first time credit
• NCVPS teachers open each week’s learning at the beginning of each week; is not a self-paced course
• the semester long course taught in 8 weeks (thus, the word “accelerated”)
• Requires 3 to 4 hours daily
• Requires students to interact daily with the teacher through email

Credit Recovery courses
• students who have previously taken the course and failed it
• self-paced; students pre-assess at the beginning of each module or unit to determine their prior knowledge.
• If a student has failed one of the ten Credit Recovery courses, students should be enrolled in the CR course rather than the ACC course
• Requires 3 to 4 hours daily
• Requires students to interact daily with the teacher through email and requires some kind of weekly synchronous contact

Credit Recovery Best Practices
• A lab is open and available for students to work during the week. Some schools open the lab anywhere from 1 to 5 days a week. Some schools require attendance while others leave it flexible.
• If the student is not working in a lab, school contact still makes weekly contact with student.
• School contact knows students' status in terms of working; follows up with students when mastery charts/status forms are sent out weekly.
