Our walking tour takes through a maze of magnificent architecture in an old world setting, evidence that this magnificent city is also known as the „silent city‟. From the high bastion walls you can admire views of most of the island. Under the Roman Empire Malta became a Municipium and the Roman Governor built his palace in Mdina. Tradition holds that the Apostle St. Paul resided in the city after his historical shipwreck on the islands. We will visit St. Paul’s Cathedral, and the church museum, with numerous examples of the sacral art. Close to Mdina is the Roman town of Rabat, which is home to the famous Catacombs of St. Paul and of St.

Agatha. These catacombs were used in Roman times to bury the dead as, according to Roman culture, it was unclean to bury the dead in the. The Catacombs were also where early Christians secretly met and performed Mass until Constantine I made Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire and therefore stopped persecuting Christians. Part of St. Paul's Catacombs, the part accessible from the Parish church which is dedicated to the same Saint, was where, according to tradition and as recorded in the Bible, St. Paul stayed for three months when he was shipwrecked on the island in 60 A.D. We will also visit Mosta. Mosta boasts the third largest unsupported dome in the World dedicated to the Assumption. The church is also known as the Rotunda of St Marija Assunta. On 9 April 1942, the church was nearly destroyed during World War II. An Axis bomb hit the dome of the church but failed to explode. The detonator was removed and a replica bomb is now displayed as a memorial. Later proceeding to the remote Westside of the island visiting the spectacular cliffs of Dingli. Enjoy lunch on a cliff with breathtaking views. To end our day we include the Crafts Village.
