hi sumeet,

i use dlink glb 502t. i configured according to your guideline and have no problem in getting to the internet using lanconnection. but when i want to use the usb connection i cannot connect. power, adsl and usb light blink. but whenhitting the connect button it gives error 691. i have an old pc which has only a usb port. please help me to configure.thanks in advance.rajesh.

Sumeet on April 3rd, 2008 at 8:44 am

Hello rajesh

Try reinstalling the drivers. Also make a note that to connect through usb you need to configure your USB lan with the IP address provided aboveand make sure you have disabled your lan card.(Cause it may cause an IP conflict if same IP is shared by both yourLAN card and your USB router inbuild lab card)

Hi Sumeet,I want to know that when i setup a bridge connection in my router do i necessarily have to remove the earlier PPPoEconnection which had been made in my router?I’m on MTNL with GLB 502tI didnt want port forwarding so i chose the bridge mode. Can you help with configuring port forwarding over PPPoE connection also? Thanks so much, kudos for all the info above!

sumeet on May 29th, 2008 at 9:38 am

Hello Shubham,

Page 19: DLINK GLB-502T ADSL2+ Router Configuration for BSNL Dataone # I Am Sumeet

Thanks for your commentYou can keep both the settings BUT You will have to disconnect the PPPOE connection,if you are using BRIDGEmode. You can’t use both the connection at the same time BUT you can keep those connection settings on the router.

For forwarding the port follow the following steps

Login to your router’s control panelGo to the advance tabClick on LAN clientsIn the field of “Enter IP Address:” fill your ip address

(to get your “IP address” open your windows control panel->Network Connections->rt click ->Select “Local AreaConnection” and right click it->Select Properties->Select TCP/IP in that box ->properties .. . You will find yor IPaddress on the 1st bos labled “IP ADDRESS” )

After filling up the IP address leave the other fields blank and click apply.Your IP address should get listed below thepage

Now click “Port Forwarding” from the left hand side column,Click “custom port forwarding” and fill the valuesaccording to your torrent client settings.

If you are in bridge mode the port forwarding is not possibe So enable the UPnP feature in your torrent client to get themaximum speed

Hope this helps.

Given steps are working fine, one verification step, as some time modem configuration doesn’t save properly to avoidfurther heading it will be good to verify modem configuration.• Old Step: Apply and restart the modem.• New Step: Login to modem again, goto setup tab > verify in left side; it has listed BSNL (name given whileconfiguring the switch) > click on BSNL (listed in left frame) > check displayed page has value 35 for VCI field; if notthen reconfigure the modem as steps given above.• Old Step: Now goto Control Panel->Network Connections• Old Step: Create New connection (and a wizard will pop up)

Hi Sumeet,

I scanned through dozens of sites to understand how to go about connecting my Laptop and my Desktop to a singleBSNL Broadband connection.

Earlier i had configured the DLINK ADSL 2+ router in a PPPoE mode & the machines worked fine. Then one day therouter seemed to conk off. Basically – i was not able to access the internet.

So i got a new modem, put in a switch and continued. All it seemed to work fine.

Now after about a month, the internet conked off again. This time the PPPoE doesnt seem to work. I need to configurein the Bridge mode.

PROBLEM:How do i share the internet with the bridge mode? My New modem has only one LAN port. Using a switch is notworking and the DLINKADSL 2+ router is not working either.

However, the bridge connection works absolutely fine with only one computer is connected.

I need your urgent assistance on this. I need to connect these 2 machines over LAN and they both must have internet.

I appreciate your help. BSNL guys are F)$(*#$ idiots !One females tells me the BSNLGateway is 192.168.1.1 !!

Thanks,Sam

I bought this piece of shit 1 year ago and failed to set it up for broadband. I called my geek friend but he failed too. Itwas quiet obvious, cause none of us knew networking. But hey, you need 2 know networking to set up a router forinternet (or do u?)…what kind f**kin thing is it??? Anyway, thanks to 2PIE for letting me use STERLITE SmartAXMT882 (BSNLModem) for 1 year, i will remember it my whole life.

Today after finding your HOWTO everything has become easy. You have described the procedure so well that isucceded the first time i tried. Thanks Sumeet da/babu for your help and for saving me from buying another modemfrom BSNL (they are providing SIMENS wireless modems now) which i was thinking lately.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Just an update : this model (502T) has been discontinued by D link and is replaced by D-Link 802C.Both of them have the same specification although the Firmware is a bit different.

This Tutorial works fine with Dlink – 802C

Hi priyesh,

Although I am not very sure how to fix this issue but try the following things

Uninstall your current drivers for lan ,Restart and install the latest driver available here http://tinyurl.com/2hnhwk

Also try Reset WINSOCK TCP/IP to the default values

By following the process stated below———————–Start->Run->”CMD” to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults by typing : netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults by typing :netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reboot your PC————————–

Hello ashish,

Page 28: DLINK GLB-502T ADSL2+ Router Configuration for BSNL Dataone # I Am Sumeet

AFAIK you cant do this with a single LAN port although you can make a cross cabling to share the internet ,but thatwill require 2 LAN ports on the host PC.One for router->host PC and other for Host PC -> Client PC

Niranjan on November 24th, 2008 at 12:35 pm

Hi Summet, Many thanks for your post.I have a question here. I have got BSNL-IPTV connection which works with BSNL dataone. This IPTV Set top box isconnected to GLB502T modem through Ethernet port. And I’m advised to use internet through USB connection. Nowthe problem I’m facing is while I use the internet through USB, it frequently disconnects, but instead if I use it throughEthernet (removing IPTV connection) the internet works fine. When I called up the D-Link support, they advised me touse multi port Switch in which the out ports I can use to connect computer and IPTV both through Ethernet link. Asthey say this modem is not built to use both USB and Ethernet ports at same time. Now this switch is going to cost memore. Do you agree with the solution they have provided. Thanks in advance.Niranjan

sumeet on November 24th, 2008 at 7:34 pm

Hello Niranjan,

I my self is using USB and Ethernet connection simultaneously without any problem.

Infact As per the instruction manual of new router (D-LINK802C which is almost same as 502t ) you can connect twodevices simultaneously. They have given an example of LAPTOP and PC connected by same router.

Try testing your router on some other PC.

Page 29: DLINK GLB-502T ADSL2+ Router Configuration for BSNL Dataone # I Am Sumeet

sumeet on November 26th, 2008 at 2:14 am

Hi sikon,

Well..I don’t think its happening because of the routerbut you can try resetting the firmwire of the router and making a fresh configuration for your ISP (I assume its BSNLORMTNL).Also try using this router on some other PC or vice-versa but I doubt whether it will help you.

Anyways you can contact DLINK and explain them this problem.either you contact them by mail via this page : http://www.dlink.co.in/support/productsupport.aspx

OR contact them by their phone number 1800-222-002 (Toll Free – MTNL and BSNL users) and +91-28447600 forother users 9.00 AM to 9.00 PM. All days.

Niranjan on December 2nd, 2008 at 2:46 pm

Hi Sumeet,Thanks for your reply. But unfortunately in my case the Router is behaving oddly. It seems that only Ethernet port isworking fine. There was change in Lan Configuration for Enthernet port in Router Setup. This was done as per theinstructions from D-Link support guys. It has been setup to lookup at static IP address 192.168.1.5. But the LanConfiguration for USB is the same (Obtain Ip Address automatically). Also I’m not sure about the solution to use ‘Switch’ will work fine with IPTV.

ThanksNiranjan

sikon on December 3rd, 2008 at 9:25 am

hello sumeetthank you for your reply.let me explain my problem.i have BSNL 750 UL+ plani use wa3002-g1 ADSLMODEM (http://www.calcuttatelephones.com/dataoneinstall/mdm08.html)modem uotputs to switch DES1008D(dlink)4 pcs are connected to the switch.

in the switch INPUT, any connection except BSNLworks fine and i face no difficulty in uploads.

but when i connect the switch to BSNLMODEM, though i can browse sites, connect to ftp and can download in FTP,but when it comes to uploading using any ftp tool it shows the progress bar painful slow and it halts at 100% for a longtime and when it completes uploading, the files got uploaded becomes 0 byte files.

it happens to all my 4 pcs.

yes, making the transfer mode to passive sometimes works but it takes 2 minutes to upload a 4 kb file.

sorry i have no idea about resetting the firmwire as u have suggested.

nad their sitting a bunch of jockers in the BSNL SUPPORT just to tell you how to plug and restart your pc again andagain.

thankssikon

For my MTNL Triband hookup I am currently using a D-Link GLB-502T ADSL2+ Router with an ethernet cable. Alsoavailable is an USB output connection. I am thinking of suscribing to MTNL’s icontrol TV. Icontrol TV needs ethernetinput to their Set Top Box (STB). If I connect my PC via the USB cable from my router for the internet and use thefreed-up ehternet output for icontrol TV’s STB then I don’t need to buy or rent a new multi-ethernet port router. Myquestions are:1. Is this possible?2. Will a USB hookup to my PC be slower than the current ethernet hookup?

sumeet on December 25th, 2008 at 1:19 am

Hello dilipAnswers to your questions are

1. Yes.But I think you will have to use the PPPOE mode of your router to use both of them simultaneously.

2. I don’t think it will effect the speed,AFAIK the TV’s bandwidth are broadband’s bandwidths are different.

Dilip on December 25th, 2008 at 2:52 pm

Thanks for your prompt reply. It was a relief to hear I am on the right track. On your answer #2, am I to understand that as far as internet aceess speeds are concerned whether I use the ethernethookup or the USB hookup between the router and the PC, it makes no difference?

sumeet on December 25th, 2008 at 2:55 pm

Yes dilip ,you are correct, you will not experience any speed difference between USB and ethernet ports.

sumeet on January 27th, 2009 at 11:23 pm

Hello Maryann,I assume its a wireless router. You will have to configure it for usage with your internet connection.

That “excellent connection” message stats that your PC is able to connect your router perfectly. It doesn’t mean thatyour router is able to connect the internet successfully.

The reason why you are able to use the internet on your college because the router on your college is able to connect tointernet perfectly.

You will have to configure your router. You didn’t mentioned which ISP are you using ,so I cant help you withconfiguration.contact your ISP for details about configuration of the router.

Maryann on January 27th, 2009 at 11:26 pm

hi!!

thanks for ur prompt reply! my ISP is BSNL broadband!

sumeet on January 27th, 2009 at 11:39 pm

OKThe VPI /VCI Value of BSNL Broadband is 0/35.Configure the router in PPPOE mode. The tutorial in this page is forthe “Bridge mode” so its of no use to you.I am recommending the PPPOE mode because its easy to configure. The details you will need to configure your routerin PPPOE mode areVCI – 0VPI -35Username – the username you got from BSNLpassword – the password you got from BSNL

I have no Idea about the panel of your router,so try configuring it yourself or contact BSNL to configure it from you.

Maryann on January 27th, 2009 at 11:45 pm

Thank you!!

i will give it a shot tonight!! if it does not work out then will call up the ISP.

Really appreciate ur prompt replies!

Thanks!

Hi Sagar,Checkout the manual of your router. As far as I know the router will be having different IPs for USB port and Ethernetport (my Dlink 802C Does)

You will have to set the router in PPPOE mode to access internet from both the ports (USB and ethernet).

Hi BattleHammer.

Atleast BSNL Says so.Although I prefer to use Open DNS208-067-222-220 AND 208-067-222-222

the only problem is that sometimes it takes time to open pages using ur specified OPEN DNS serverits located in california??anyways u can use this server69.65.59.222 or 4.2.2.19its not a root server)its very fast i can tell u thatOpen DNS in india will be slow until its planned to build a server in singapore or indonesia(i have heard about it)

sumeet on February 1st, 2009 at 4:18 pm

Hi BattleHammer, Actually I get better speed using Opendns. The official DNS announced by BSNL are

DNS EASTPrimary -61.1.96.69Secondary-218.248.255.145

DNS WESTPrimary -218.248.255.177Secondary-61.1.96.71

DNS SOUTHPrimary -218.248.255.145Secondary-218.248.255.193

DNS NORTHPrimary -218.248.255.193Secondary-218.248.255.145

BTW I do not have any idea about how to setup a static IP

BattleHammer on February 1st, 2009 at 5:42 pm

thanks.lol u have already set up static IP to ur LAN (most of BSNL users won’t get the actual working static IP)but i earlier i wanted to know that when we are making new connection from the New Connection wizard,do we haveto provide the same DNS that are being assigned to the LAN?anyways thanks for the information of the BSNLDNS i will try outbut yeah they lag lol

The problem is, with PC the speed is tooo slow but when connected to my laptop with same settings, speed is verygood.

My laptop has Intel motherboard and PC ASUS motherboard, this is only difference.

Please advise…

Hi ankitI dont think the problem is with the router or settings. The problem is with your PC.Try reinstalling the OS or scan your system for virus with an updated antivirus.

Hi Sumeet,

Thanks for your quick reply…

I have re-installed OS on my system, checked for any virus but even then the speed remains pathetic.

The router page 192.168.1.1 is opening and get stuck on the login page. The speed is too slow to open any website.

I have Atheros L2 Fast Ethernet 10/100 Base T-controller card. Is there any compatibity issue with the card ???

Please advise….

Its not a compatibility issue for sure.Try using the USB Interface to verify the speed. If you are getting the same slow speed via USB then something iswrong with the router.

The router does not have any setting to set/modify the speed ,So I doubt if something is wrong with the router. You can also try restoring the router with the factory setting and reconfiguring the router.

I have been using GLB -502T for a single PC and was working fine with your help. Now I have bought a WirelessBroadband router which has 4 LAN ports too. Please help me to configure my Laptop (which has Wi-Fi) and anotherPC which has a LANCard so that I may be able to use broadband in all my comps simultaneously.

The above problem has been solved by BSNL engineer completely by configuring username and password in modem.
