Main Square of TrujilloFollowing the orders of Diego de Almagro, Martin deAstete drew up this square as the center of the city.In the central part of the main square you can seethe monument of La Libertad, a Baroque marblesculpture work of the German Edmund Muller.
Monasterio El Carmen (El Carmen Monastery)Built in 1759, it is one of the best architecturalcomplexes of the city. It consists of a temple andtwo-cloister convent. The gallery maintains animportant collection of approximately 150 canvases,mainly from the seventeenth and eighteenthcenturies. The canvases of the Quito and theFlamenco Schools are the main attractions.

Archeological remnants related to the different pre-Hispaniccultures that developed in the department of La Libertadare displayed here. The museum is located in the RiscoHouse, famous for its patios decorated with murals.Ceramic objects, jewelry, clothing and feather mosaic arethe highlights of the exhibitions.
The Dragon Huaca or Arco IrisThis adobe pyramid is especially important since itsconstruction was done at the beginning of the Chimuculture and at the end of the Tiahuanaco-Wari culturebetween the tenth and eleventh centuries A.D. Itsestimated age is 1100 years. The building has a square baseand walls decorated with zoomorphic and anthropomorphicrepresentations in high relief. The name of the Dragon camefrom one of these figures, a two-headed creature withuncountable feet, similar to a dragon.

Huaca del sol and Huaca de la Luna
Huaca del Sol functioned as the political-administrative center, and Huaca de la Luna as theceremonial center. The urban zone is locatedbetween the two and is composed of houses, largeavenues, alleys, corridors, and squares. Thesecomponents confirm the high level of political,religious, economic and social organization of theMoches. Huaca de la Luna is made up of templessuperimposed according to the different periods ofthe Mochica power. In some walls beautifulpolychromatic murals can be seen, whose clearlydefined figures represent the god Ai-apaec. In thetemple, archeologists have discovered a tomb withmore than forty sacrificed warriors. For the timebeing the tourist visit only includes Huaca de la Luna.

Citadel Of Chan ChanThis pre-Hispanic urban center represents the largestmud city in pre-Hispanic America. In 1986, it wasdeclared a World Heritage Suite by the UNESCO.Chan Chan might have been the capital of the Chimukingdom, originally including over twenty squarekilometers, from the nearby Port of Huanchaco tothe Campana Hill. Archeologists estimate that itlodged over a hundred thousand people.
