Unit 4: Probability

Objective• SWBAT understand the law of large

numbers in probability.

• Essential Understanding: Statistics can be used to perpetuate stereotypes.

• Standard for Mathematical Practice: Model with mathematics.

STAT: 18% of African Americans graduate college.

STAT: 8% of low-income students graduate college.

STAT: 1 out of 3 black males will be incarcerated in their lifetime.

This means that an African American male is more likely to go to prison

than graduate college.

Law of Large Numbers: As the number of trials increases, the actual probability of an event will approach the expected probability.
