We will be reading lots of fairytales and traditional tales and focus on few. We will also listen to The Three Billy Goats gruff, Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Snow White and more! Maths As we look at different stories, there will plenty of opportunities to develop our maths skills. We will be getting to grips with addition and subtraction problems in a range of contexts and make sure we can count, write and use numbers beyond 10. Each week, we will also be having a different problem solving focus, which will mean using all of our maths skills as well as deciding how best to tackle a problem. We will be starting our new Traditional Tales topic next week and have lots of exciting learning planned. In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) we plan our teaching alongside the children’s interests. If the class is really interested and engaged in a particular topic or an activity spurs them on to want to find out more, we try and adapt our teaching and what we are doing to match their enthusiasm. Although these are some possible activities, please be aware that we may not cover them all, and may go off in another direction at some point! PHONICS (Letters and Sounds) We have now learnt all of the sounds of the alphabet and have moved on to learning some digraphs. A digraph is a pair of letters that make one sound eg. ch in chip, sh in ship, oa in boat. We will be developing our skills of sounding out (or segmenting) as well as blending sounds together to read words. We will learn new tricky words too, and these will be sent home for your child to practise reading and writing them. We praise independent writing at school and have an Indepdnent Writing Wall as well as a Writer of the Week. If your child does any writing at home, please let us know by popping a photo on their Tapestry Learning Journey. Chinese New Year This festival begins on 5th February and lasts for days. We will be spending week learning about the traditions and customs of this celebrations as well as life in China and how it is similar/different to how we live our lives. We will hear about the sto- ry behind the Chinese Zodiac and find out what animal’s year we were born in. We will have a go at using chop sticks, write some words and numbers using Chinese symbols, make a dragon to take part in a dragon parade around the school with, play some money games and make fans, Chinese drums, Chinese lanterns and more...all in the space of a week!

Do you have a favourite story? We will be reading lots of fairytales and traditional tales and focus on few. We will also listen to The Three Billy Goats gruff, Hansel and

Gretel, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Snow White and more!

Maths As we look at different stories, there will plenty of opportunities to develop our maths skills. We will be getting to grips with addition and subtraction problems in a range of contexts and make sure we can count, write and use numbers beyond 10. Each week, we will also be having a different

problem solving focus, which will mean using all of our maths skills as well as deciding how best to tackle a problem.

We will be starting our new Traditional Tales topic next week and have lots of exciting learning planned. In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) we plan our teaching alongside the children’s interests. If the class is really interested and engaged in a particular topic or an activity

spurs them on to want to find out more, we try and adapt our teaching and what we are doing to match their enthusiasm. Although these are some possible activities, please be aware that we may not cover them all, and may go off in another direction at some point!

PHONICS (Letters and Sounds)

We have now learnt all of the sounds of the alphabet and

have moved on to learning some digraphs. A digraph is a pair

of letters that make one sound eg. ch in chip, sh in ship, oa in boat.

We will be developing our skills of sounding out (or segmenting) as

well as blending sounds together to read words. We will learn new

tricky words too, and these will be sent home for your child to practise

reading and writing them. We praise independent writing at school and have an Indepdnent Writing Wall as well as a Writer of the Week. If

your child does any writing at home, please let us know by popping a

photo on their Tapestry Learning Journey.
