PASSENGER AIR BAGDISARMING

"ISOFIX" MOUNTINGS

Your vehicle has been approved inaccordance with the new ISOFIXregulation.

The rear seats* are fitted withregulation ISOFIX mountings.

These are three rings for each seat:

- two lower rings A, located betweenthe vehicles seat back andcushion,

- an upper ring B, referred to as theTOP TETHER, located at the rearof the seat back at the bottom.

The ISOFIX child seats are fittedwith two locks and/or a strap whichare secured easily on these rings,

indicated by labels.

WARNING LIGHTS ANDINDICATORS

Central STOPwarning light

This flashes for a few

seconds each time theignition is switched on. Linked withthe warnings :

- "engine oil pressure",- "coolant temperature",Stop immediately if this light comeson with the engine running.

Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Engine oil pressurewarning light

This comes on each timethe ignition is switched on

until the engine is started.

If it comes on linked with the STOPwarning light, with the engine running,this indicates that the oil pressure istoo low.

Stop immediately.


Coolant temperaturewarning light

This comes on for a fewseconds each time the

ignition is switched on.

If this warning light comes on, with

the engine running, this indicatesan abnormal increase in the coolanttemperature.

Stop immediately.

Check the coolant level.

To do this, wait until the engine hascooled before topping up the level.

The cooling system is pressurised.

Anti-lock brakingsystem (ABS) warninglight

This comes on for a fewseconds each time the ignition isswitched on.

Fixed lighting indicates a malfuncton

of the ABS.However, the vehicle retains conven-tional braking with assistance.


Handbrake, low brakefluid level and brakingsystem warning light

This comes on each timethe ignition is switched on until thehandbrake is released.

Fixed lighting, with the engine running,indicates one of the following:

- that the handbrake is applied orhas not been released fully, whenthe vehicle is moving,

- an excessive drop in the brake fluidlevel (if the warning light remainson even with the handbrakereleased),

- a braking system fault.Stop immediately.


When checking the level, andto avoid any risk of scalding,unscrew the cap 1/4 of aturn to allow the pressure to

drop.

When the pressure has dropped,remove the cap.

Then:

1 - top up, if necessary (see"Levels").

2 - or, if the level is satisfactory,contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Electric powersteering warning light



Fixed lighting, when the vehicle ismoving, indicates a malfunction ofthe electric steering system.


Battery chargewarning light



Fixed lighting, with the engine

running, indicates a malfunction.Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

Driver's seat belt notfastened warninglight**

When the ignition isswitched on, the warning light flashes

until the driver fastens his seat belt.Above a speed of approximately10 mph (15 km/h), the warning lightflashes accompanied by an audiblesignal until the driver fastens his seatbelt.

Air bags warninglights

This comes on for a fewseconds each time theignition is switched on.

Passenger air bag disarmed

If the passenger air bag is disarmed,the warning light remains on.

2 Tronic gearboxwarning light

Fixed lighting of this warninglight, with the engine

running, indicates a malfunction ofthe 2 Tronic gearbox.

Emission controlsystem warning light



Fixed lighting, with the engine

running, indicates an emissioncontrol system fault.


Diesel engine pre-heatwarning light

Wait until the warninglight is switched off beforestarting.

If the temperature is sufficient, thewarning light comes on briefly, youcan start without waiting.

Water in diesel filterwarning light*



Fixed lighting, with the enginerunning, indicates a risk of damage

to the engine.Contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

* According to country.

To reset the trip recorder to zero,

when it is displayed, press and holdbutton 1.

"2 Tronic" gearbox indicator

"E" is displayed when

this operating mode isselected.

It is switched off on switching tomanual mode.

"M" is displayed whenthis operating mode isselected.

"!" warning light

If this warning light comeson, with the engine running,

this indicates a malfunctionof the "2 Tronic" gearbox.


Fuel gauge

This indicates the quantity of fuelavailable:

- 1/1 and six blocks, the fuel tank isfull.

- R and one block flashing, the fueltank is on the reserve.

Low fuel level

When the minimum level in the fueltank is reached, the last block flashesaccompanied by an audible signal*.

In certain driving conditions anddepending on the engine, thedistance which can be travelled withthe fuel remaining may be less than30 miles (50 km).

You have approximately 5 litresremaining.

When the frequency of the flashingincreases, you have approximately3 litres remaining.

At least 5 litres must beadded after running out offuel.

Running out of diesel fuel

After running out of fuel,you can travel a shortdistance after 10 pumprepriming operations (see

corresponding section).

After filling the fuel tank (minimum5 litres), operate the repriming pumpat least 10 times (see correspondingsection).

After the engine has been switchedoff, the audio equipment canonly operate for approximately30 minutes, to prevent dischargingof the battery.

Press the upper partof this button severaltimes in succession toincrease the volume ofthe audio equipment

or the lower part of thisbutton to decrease it.

VOLUME ADJUSTMENT

Press this buttonseveral times insuccession to gainaccess to the bass

(BASS), treble (TREB), front / rearbalance (FAD) and left / right balance(BAL) settings.

An auxiliary socket"AUX" is providedfor the connection ofportable equipment(MP3 player, etc.).

You exit from this mode automaticallyafter a few seconds without anyaction.

In order to listento it, connect yourequipment then pressthis button.

The audio equipment controls enableyou to adjust the volume and theaudio settings.

To exit from the AUX source, pressAM/FM.

- to adjust the hours,press this button,

- to adjust the minutes,press this button.

Note: set the volume of theportable equipment to halfvolume to avoid saturatingthe audio equipment sound.

Then use the audio equipmentvolume button.

Stereo reception

When the audio equipment receivesa station broadcasting in stereo itautomatically transmits stereo soundand the screen displays "ST". If thereception conditions deteriorate, theaudio equipment returns to mono

transmission and "ST" is no longerdisplayed.

Press one of thesetwo buttons briefly toincrease or decreasethe frequency dis-played respectively.

If you maintain thepressure on thebutton in the chosen

direction, the frequency will bescanned continuously.

The scan stops when you release thebutton.

Notes on radioreception

Your audio equipment willbe subjected to phenomena

which do not affect domestic radiosets. Both MW/LW and FM receptionare subject to various forms of

interference. This is no reflection onthe quality of the equipment but is dueto the nature of the signals and theway in which they are transmitted.

On MW/LW, interference may benoticed when passing under highvoltage power lines or bridges, or intunnels.

On FM, interference may be theresult of increasing distance from thetransmitter, deflection of the signal byobstacles (mountains, hills, buildings,

etc) or of being in an area which isnot covered by a transmitter.

Automatic storing of FMstations (autostore)

Press this button.

Your audio equipmentautomatically storesthe six best transmit-

ters received on AM and FM in yourcurrent location. These stations arestored on the AM and FM3 wave-bands. The end of the search is si-gnalled by two audible signals.

Recalling stored stations

On each waveband, a brief press onone of the buttons "1" to "6" recallsthe corresponding stored station.

If it was not possible to find sixtransmitters, the remainingmemories remain empty:three dashes are displayed

on the audio equipment screen foreach empty memory.

RDS

Using the AF (alternativefrequency) function on the FMwaveband

Regional followingmode (REG)

This enables you to listen to stationswhich broadcast a type of programmewhich has a theme (NEWS, SPORTS,TALK, POP, CLASSICS).

Search by type ofprogramme (PTY)

EON system

This system links stations whichbelong to the same network. It permitsthe transmission of traffic informationbroadcast by a station which belongsto the same network as the station towhich you are listening.

In order to benefit fromthis, select thetraffic information programme TA.

The RDS (Radio Data System)

enables you to continue listening tothe same station irrespective of thefrequency that it uses in your currentlocation. The audio equipmentcontinuously searches for thetransmitter which provides the bestreception.

Some stations, organised in a network,

broadcast regional programmes inthe various regions which they serve.The regional following mode enablesyou to contiue listening to the sameprogramme.

Press this button seve-ral times in successionto activate or deacti-vate the function.

On FM, the multifunction display willindicate:

- "TP" or "TP EON": the radiotransmits a programme while

awaiting the broadcasting of trafficinformation.- "TA" or"TA EON": the programme

transmitted by the radio is puton standby while awaiting thebroadcasting of traffic information.

If you wish to interrupt thetransmission of a message, pressthis button again.

Traffic informationprogramme (TA)

Press this button se-veral times in suc-cession to activate ordeactivate the func-tion.

The screen will indicate:

- "AF" if the function is activated,- "AF REG" if the function is activated

at regional level,- "AF" flashing if the function is not

available.

When FM is selected,press this button:

- "no pty" is displayed,- then press the button briefly to

select a programme.After a few seconds without anyaction, your selection is stored.

Notes: the volume ofthe traffic information isindependent of the volumeof normal radio listening.

You can adjust it using the volumebutton, when the TA programme is

being transmitted.The setting will be stored and will beused during subsequent messagetransmissions.

The tracks on the CD will be playedin a random order. Press the buttonagain to return to normal play.

The random play mode is deactivatedwhen the audio equipment is switchedoff.

Press one of thesebuttons on the audioequipment to selectthe previous or next

CD respectively.

VENTILATION

Recommendations for

use

If the interior temperatureremains very high after

a prolonged period parked in thesun, do not hesitate to ventilate thepassenger compartment for a few

minutes.For an even air distribution, makesure that you do not block the outsideair inlet grille, the vents, the airpassages and the air outlets to thefootwells.

Ensure that the passenger compart-ment filter, located below the wind-screen, in the engine compartment,is in good condition. Have the filterelements replaced regularly. If youdrive in dusty conditions, change

them twice as often.Operate the air conditioning systemfor 5 to 10 minutes, once or twice amonth, to keep it in perfect workingorder.

In order to ensure that your airconditioning system continues tooperate correctly, you are advised tohave it checked regularly.

The condensation created by the airconditioning results in a flow of waterunder the vehicle when stationarywhich is perfectly normal.

If the system does not produce coldair, do not use it and contact yourPEUGEOT dealer.

HEATING

1. Temperature adjustment

Turn the control from blue (cold) tored (hot) to adjust the temperature tosuit your requirements.

2. Air flow adjustment

When the ignition is switched on,turn the control to obtain a flow of

air which is sufficient to ensure yourcomfort.

To maintain a certain level of comfortin the passenger compartment, avoidposition 0 whenever possible.

In position 0, a slight flow of air, dueto the movement of the vehicle, canstill be felt.

The air distribution can beadjusted by placing thecontrol in an intermediateposition.

Footwells.

4. Rear screen demisting

With the engine running,press button 4, the indicatorlight comes on.

The system demists the

rear screen.It is switched off by pressingcontrol 4.

Windscreen, side windowsand footwells.

Footwells, diffusion grilleand side vents.

Diffusion grille and sidevents.

3. Air distribution adjustment

Windscreen and sidewindows.

Switch the system off assoon as you considerthis necessary as a lowerconsumption of current

reduces fuel consumption.

De-icing and demisting

To quickly de-ice or demist thewindscreen and side windows:

- set the air distribution to"Windscreen and side windows",

- place the temperature control 1 andthe air flow control 2 at maximum,

- close the side vents.

The recirculation of interiorair (control 4 to the left)enables you to isolate thepassenger compartmentfrom exterior odours and

smoke.


Windscreen and sidewindows.

The air distribution can beadjusted by placing thecontrol in an intermediateposition.

Windscreen, side windowsand footwells.

Footwells, diffusion grilleand side vents.

Diffusion grille and sidevents.


As soon as possible, move control 4to the right to the "Intake of exteriorair" position to avoid the risks ofdeterioration of the air quality andmisting of the windscreen and sidewindows.

The intake of exterior air(control 4 to the right)enables you to preventand eliminate misting ofthe windscreen and sidewindows.

With the engine running,press button 6, the indicatorlight comes on.

The system demists therear screen.

It is switched off by pressingcontrol 6.

In a humid climate, use of theair recirculation may causemisting of the windows.

Switch the system off assoon as you considerthis necessary as a lowerconsumption of current

reduces fuel consumption.

De-icing and demisting

To quickly de-ice or demist thewindscreen and side windows:

- set the air distribution to"Windscreen and side windows",

- place the temperature control 2and the air flow control 3 atmaximum,

- close the side vents,- place the air intake control 4 in the

"Air intake" position,- switch on the air conditioning by

pressing button 1.

"Rearwards-facing"

For maximum safety, pleasefollow these precautions:

- since 1992, and in accordancewith Directive 2000/3, all childrenunder the age of 12 must travelin approved child seats* suitedto their weight, on seats fitted witha seat belt or ISOFIX mountings**.

- statistically, the safest seats inyour vehicle for the transportationof children are the rear seats,

- a child weighing less than 9 kgmust travel in the rearwards-facing position both in the frontand in the rear.

ADVICE ON CHILDSEATS

The incorrect installation of a childseat in a vehicle compromises thechilds protection in the event of anaccident.

Remember to fasten the seat beltsor the child seat harness keepingthe slack in relation to the childsbody to a minimum, even for shortjourneys.

For optimum installation of the"forward facing" child seat, ensurethat the back of the child seat is incontact with the back of the vehiclesseat and that the head restraint doesnot cause any discomfort.

If the head restraint has to beremoved, ensure that it is stored orattached securely to prevent it frombeing thrown around the vehicle inthe event of sharp braking.

Children under the age of 10 must nottravel in the "forward facing" positionon the front passenger seat, unlessthe rear seats are already occupiedby other children, cannot be used orare absent.

Disarm the passenger air bag* when

a "rear facing" child seat is installedon the front seat. Otherwise, the childwould risk being seriously injured orkilled if the air bag were to inflate.

Installing a booster seat

The chest part of the seat belt mustbe positioned on the childs shoulderwithout touching the neck.

Ensure that the lap part of the seatbelt passes correctly over the childsthighs.

PEUGEOT recommends the use of abooster seat which has a back, fittedwith a seat belt guide at shoulderlevel.

As a safety precaution, do not leave:

- one or more children alone andunsupervised in a vehicle,

- a child or an animal in a vehiclewhich is exposed to the sun, withthe windows closed,

KEYS / REMOTE CONTROL

Remote control

This carries out the vehicle locking -unlocking and locating functions at adistance.

Keys

The keys allow you to switch on theignition and operate the locks onthe front doors, the boot, the fueltank cap, the steering lock and thepassenger air bag disarming switch.

LockingPress button A to lock the vehiclefrom a distance. This is confirmedby brief lighting of the directionindicators.

Central locking and unlocking

From the drivers door, the keys allowyou to lock and unlock the doors andboot simultaneously.

Unlocking

Press button B to unlock the vehicle.

This is confirmed by two successiveflashes of the direction indicators.

Spotting the vehicle

To spot your vehicle, if you havelocked it, in a car park:

press button A, the directionindicators come on briefly.

Note: after locking, if younotice that a door is notclosed properly, close it thenlock the vehicle again.

The set of keys or remotecontrols, supplied with yourvehicle, enable you to obtaina maximum of three new

ELECTRONIC ENGINEIMMOBILISER

This locks the engine control systemas soon as the ignition has beenswitched off and therefore preventsstarting of the vehicle by anyone whodoes not have the key.

The ignition key has an electronic

chip which has a special code. Whenthe ignition is switched on, the codemust be recognised for starting to bepossible.

In the event of a malfunction, yourvehicle will not start.


Changing the remote controlbattery

To change the battery, remove thescrew then unclip the housing usinga coin inserted at the ring.

Battery CR 2016/3 volts.If the remote control does not workafter the battery has been changed,reprogramme it.

Reprogramming the remotecontrol

Following replacement of the remotecontrol battery or in the event of aremote control malfunction, it maybe necessary to reprogramme thesystem.

Switch off the ignition. Switch the ignition on again.

Press one of the remote controlbuttons immediately for a fewseconds.

Switch off the ignition and removethe key from the ignition lock.

The remote control is now workingagain.

If the malfunction persists, contact aPEUGEOT dealer.

Driving with the doors lockedmay make access to thepassenger compartment bythe emergency services moredifficult in an emergency.

As a safety measure (with childrenon board), remove the key from theignition when leaving the vehicle,even for a short time.Do not make any modifications to theelectronic immobiliser system.

Do not discard the remotecontrol batteries, they containmetals which are harmful tothe environment.

Take them to a PEUGEOT dealership,

or to any other approved collectionpoint.

The high frequency remote control isa sensitive system; do not operate itin your pockets as there is a risk thatit may unlock the vehicle without youbeing aware of this.

Avoid pressing the buttons of yourremote control out of range of

your vehicle, you risk rendering itinoperative. It would then have to bereprogrammed.

ELECTRIC WINDOWS

The driver and front passenger eachhave an electric window.

After the ignition has been switchedon, press or pull control 1. Thewindow stops when you release thecontrol.

Always remove the key fromthe ignition when leavingthe vehicle, even for a shorttime.

The driver must ensure that the frontpassenger uses his electric windowcorrectly.

Be aware of children when operatingthe windows.

DOORS

Locking/unlocking a doorfrom the inside

Normal locking/unlocking: thedoors lock/unlock independently.

To lock/unlock a door, press/pullbutton A.

2. Spare wheel / Additionalstorage compartments

Located under the carpet and aplastic cover, this contains the toolsfor wheel changing and towing.

There are two shelf storage options:

- either behind the rear seats,- or flat in the boot.

1. Rear shelf

To remove the shelf:

- unhook the shelf from its fixing A,- pull upwards on each side to detach

it from its fixings,- raise then tilt the shelf slightly to

remove it.

FILLING THE FUEL TANK

Open the fuel filler flap.

Insert the key, turn it slightly to theleft then return to the right.

Low fuel level

When the fuel tank minimumlevel is reached, the lastblock flashes, accompaniedby an audible signal*.

You have approximately 5 litresremaining.

In certain driving conditions anddepending on the engine, thedistance which can be travelled withthe fuel remaining may be less than30 miles (50 km).

When the frequency of the flashingincreases, you have approximately3 litres remaining.

Unscrew the cap and hook it ontothe clip located on the inside ofthe flap.

A label affixed on the inside of theflap reminds you which type of fuel

to use.When you fill the fuel tank, donot continue after the 3rd cut-offof the pump. This could causemalfunctions.

The capacity of the fuel tank isapproximately 35 litres.

After filling the fuel tank, screw thecap back on fully to the right until itclicks and close the flap.

Remove the key.

Note: if you run out of fuel,the emission control systemwarning light may come onon the instrument panel.

It will switch off automatically afterthe engine has been started a fewtimes.

The fuel tank must be filledwith the engine switchedoff.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKINGSYSTEM (ABS) AND EBFD/CSC BRAKING SYSTEM

The ABS, in conjunction with theEBFD/CSC braking system, in-creases the stability and manoevra-bility of your vehicle on braking and

provides improved control, in parti-cular on poor or slippery road surfa-ces.

The ABS prevents wheel lock in theevent of emergency braking.

The EBFD/CSC system provides fullcontrol of the braking pressure wheelby wheel. A distribution between:

- the front and the rear in the case ofthe EBFD (Electronic Brake ForceDistribution),

- the left and the right in the case

of the CSC (Cornering StabilityControl).

When the vehicle is beingdriven, illumination of thiswarning light indicates thatthe handbrake is still onor has not been properlyreleased.

When parking on a slope,direct your wheels towardsthe pavement and pull thehandbrake.

HANDBRAKE

Applying

Pull the handbrake to immobiliseyour vehicle.

ReleasingPull on the handle and press thebutton to release the handbrake.

tion of the braking system or that thehandbrake has not been releasedfully, which can cause a loss of con-trol of the vehicle when braking.

SEAT BELTS

Fastening the seat belts

Pull the strap, then insert the buckleinto the stalk.

Pretensioning front seatbelts with force limiter

Safety in the event of frontimpacts has been improved

by means of the introduction ofpretensioning seat belts with forcelimiter for the front seats. Dependingon the force of the impact, thepretensioning system instantlytightens the seat belts and pulls themagainst the body of the occupants.

The pretensioning seat belts areactive when the ignition is on.

The force limiter reduces thepressure of the seat belt on the bodyof the occupant in the event of anaccident.

Normal operation of theABS may make itself felt byslight vibrations of the brakepedal.

In emergency braking,press very firmly withoutreleasing the pressure.

Wherever you are seated inthe vehicle, always fastenyour seat belt, even for shortjourneys.

Do not invert the seat belt buckles asthey will not fulfil their role fully.

If the seats have armrests*, the lappart of the seat belt must alwayspass under the armrest.

Before and after use, ensure that theseat belt is rolled up correctly.

In order to be effective, a seat belt:

- must be tightened as close to thebody as possible,

- must restrain one adult only,- must not bear any trace of cuts or

fraying,- must not be twisted,- must not be transformed or

modified.

Clean the seat belt straps with soapywater or a textile cleaning product,sold by PEUGEOT dealers.

After folding or moving a seat or rearbench seat, ensure that the seat beltis positioned and rolled up correctly.

Recommendations for child seats:

- use a suitable child seat if thepassenger is less than 12 years oldor shorter than one metre fifty,

- do not use the strap-guide* when achild seat is installed.

Depending on the nature andseriousness of the impacts,the pre-tensioning device may betriggered before and independentlyof the air bags.

In all cases, the air bag warning lightcomes on.

Following an impact, have theseat belts system checked, and ifnecessary replaced, by a PEUGEOTdealer.

AIR BAGS

The air bags have been designed tomaximise the safety of the occupantsin the event of serious collisions.They work in conjunction with theforce-limiting seat belts.

The electronic detectors register and

analyse any abrupt deceleration ofthe vehicle: if the triggering thresholdis reached, the air bags inflateinstantly and protect the occupantsof the vehicle.

Immediately after the impact, theair bags deflate rapidly so that theydo not hinder the visibility of theoccupants nor their exit if necessaryfrom the vehicle.

The air bags are not deployed inthe case of collisions which arenot serious, for which the seat beltis sufficient to ensure maximumprotection. The seriousness of acollision depends on the nature of theobstacle and the speed of the vehicleat the moment of the collision.

Air bags only operate when theignition is switched on.

FRONT AIR BAGS

These are folded in the centre of thesteering wheel for the driver and inthe fascia for the front passenger.They are deployed simultaneously,

except in cases where the passengerair bag is disarmed.

Front air bag malfunction

Flashing indicates an airbag malfunction, contact aPEUGEOT dealer to havethe system checked.

Disarming the passengerair bag

To ensure the safety of yourchild, it is essential to disarmthe passenger air bag when you

install a "rear-facing" child seaton the front passenger seat.Otherwise, the child would riskbeing seriously injured or killed ifthe air bag were to inflate.

With the ignition switched off,insert the key into the passengerair bag disarming switch 1, turn itto the "OFF" position, then removethe key keeping the switch in thisposition.

Note: the gas escaping fromthe air bags can be a minorirritant.

In the "OFF" position, the passengerair bag will not be triggered in theevent of an impact.

As soon as the child seat is removed,turn the air bag switch to the "ON"position to re-activate the air bagand thus ensure the safety of yourpassenger in the event of an impact.

If the passenger air bagis disarmed, the warninglight on the instrumentpanel remains on untilthe passenger air bag isreactivated.

SIDE AIR BAGS* ANDCURTAIN AIR BAGS*

The side air bags are incorporatedinto the front seat backs on the doorside.

The curtain air bags are incorporatedin the headlining.

They are deployed independently ofeach other depending on which sidethe collision occurs.

For the front, side* andcurtain* air bags to befully effective, observe thefollowing safety rules:

Wear a correctly adjusted seat belt.

Sit in a normal upright position.

Do not leave anything between the

occupants and the air bags (child,animal, object...).

This could hamper the operation ofthe air bags or injure the occupants.

All work on the air bag systems isstrictly prohibited unless it is carriedout by qualified personnel of thePEUGEOT network.

After an accident or if the vehicle hasbeen stolen or broken into, have theair bag systems checked.

Front air bags

Do not drive holding the steeringwheel by its spokes or resting yourhands on the centre part of thewheel.

Passengers must not place their feeton the fascia.

Smoke as little as possible;deployment of the air bags cancause burns or the risk of injury froma cigarette or pipe.

2 TRONIC GEARBOX

The five-speed "2 Tronic" gearboxoffers a choice between the comfort ofautomatic operation or the pleasureofmanual gearchanging.

Driving mode

Select the driving mode by movingthe gear lever.

Reverse "R": This gear will beengaged when stationary or at a

speed below approximately 4 mph(6 km/h).

The switch to reverse gear isaccompanied by an audible signal.

Neutral "N".

Position the lever to the right inposition N, to start the engine.

Easy "E": automatic gear changing.

Manual (+ / - ) "M": manual gearchanging.

Starting the vehicle

With the handbrake applied, pressthe brake pedal then select positionN to start the engine.

With your foot on the brake, selectposition R, E orM.

Release the handbrake, take your footoff the brake pedal, then accelerate.

Notes: with the enginerunning, in these threepositions, an audible signalis heard when the drivers

door is opened.

You can change from position E toposition M and vice versa at anytime.

EASY mode (automatic mode)

Select position E using the gearlever.

The gearbox continuously selectsthe most suitable gear.

If you press the accelerator pedalbeyond the point of resistance*, the2 Tronic gearbox selects thegear below to permit sharperacceleration.

Manuel mode

Place the gear lever in position M,

then change up or down through thegears by pressing:

- rearwards, "+" to change up,- forwards, "-" to change down.The gear engaged is displayed onthe instrument panel screen.

In the event of under-revving, toprevent any risk of stalling, the gearbelow is selected automatically.

In the event of overheating ofthe clutch, position N is selectedautomatically and the symbol N

flashes accompanied by an audiblesignal.

Operating faultStopping the vehicle

Before switching off the engine, youcan change to position N to be inneutral.

In all cases, it is essential that youapply the handbrake to immobilisethe vehicle.

With the ignition on, thelighting of this warninglight indicates a gearboxmalfunction.


On a slope, use the braketo immobilise the vehicleand place the gear lever inposition N, E orR.

Do not keep the vehicle immobilisedusing the accelerator.

It is compulsory to press thebrake pedal while startingthe engine.

Never select neutral N whilethe vehicle is moving.

In all cases, it is essentialto apply the handbrake to

immobilise the vehicle.

Bonnet strut

Fix the strut to hold the bonnetopen.

To close

Before closing the bonnet, return thestrut to its housing.

CHECKING THE LEVELS

Oil level

Check the level regularly and top upbetween changes. The maximumconsumption is 0.5 l per 600 miles(1000 km).

Check the level with the vehicle level,engine cold, using the dipstick.

There are two markson the dipstick:

A = maximum

If you fill past thismark, contact aPEUGEOT dealer.

B = minimumNever allow the levelto fall below thismark.

Changing the brake fluid

The brake fluid must be changed atthe intervals stated, according to themanufacturers servicing schedule.

For best quality cleaning and for yoursafety, we would advise that youuse products recommended by yourmanufacturer.


Viscosity selection

In all cases, the oil selected must meetthe manufacturers requirements.

Cooling system Used oil

Avoid prolonged contact of used oilwith the skin.

Brake fluid is harmful to health andvery corrosive.

To maintain the reliability ofengines and emission controlsystems, the use of additivesin engine oil is prohibited.

When the engine is warm, thetemperature of the coolant iscontrolled by the engine fan. As thisfan can operate with the ignition keyremoved and because the coolingsystem is pressurised, wait for atleast one hour after the engine hasstopped before carrying out anywork.

Slacken the cap by 1/4 of aturn to release the pressureto prevent any risk of

scalding. When the pressurehas dropped, remove the cap andtop up the level.

Only use the fluidrecommended by themanufacturer.

Otherwise, you risk seriouslydamaging your engine. Do not dispose of used oil,

brake fluid or coolant intodrains or into the ground.

Empty the used oil into thecontainers provided for this purposein the PEUGEOT network.

CHECKS Oil filter

Change the filter regularly, inaccordance with the servicingschedule.

Only use products recom-mended by PEUGEOT orproducts of equivalent qua-lity and characteristics.

In order to optimise the operationof units as important as the brakingcircuit, PEUGEOT selects and offersvery specific products.

In order to avoid damaging theelectrical units, high pressurewashing of the engine compartmentis strictly prohibited.

To check the main levels and certaincomponents, in accordance with themanufacturers servicing schedule,refer to the pages of the servicingbooklet which correspond to yourvehicles engine.

Battery

At the start of winter, have yourbattery checked by a PEUGEOTdealer.

Air filter and passengercompartment filter

Have the filter elements replacedregularly. If you drive in dustyconditions, change them twice asoften.

Brake pads

Brake pad wear depends on the styleof driving, in particular for vehicleswhich are used in town, over shortdistances.

Handbrake

Where the handbrake travel is too

great or there is a reduction in theperformance of the system, thehandbrake should be adjusted, evenbetween services.

Have the system checked by aPEUGEOT dealer.

Manual gearbox

This does not require an oil change.Have the level checked in accordancewith the manufacturers servicingschedule.

RUNNING OUT OF FUEL(DIESEL)

It may be necessary to checkthe thickness of the pads,even between services.

If the engine stops, it ispossible to restart it to drivea short distance by operatingthe pump at least 10 times.

If you run out of fuel, the circuit must

be reprimed:- fill the fuel tank with at least five

litres of diesel,- squeeze and release the manual

repriming pump at least 10 times.This is located under the protectivecover which must first be unclippedand then removed,

- operate the starter until the enginestarts.

Notes: if the engine does

not start after approximately15 seconds of attempts, ope-rate the repriming pump again

approximately fifteen times beforetrying again.If the emission control warning light hascome on, it will only switch off after yourvehicle has been used several times.

CHANGING A WHEEL

Parking the vehicle

As far as possible, immobilisethe vehicle on level, stable, non-

slippery ground. Apply the handbrake, switch

off the ignition and engage firstgear, reverse or position N for the"2 Tronic" gearbox.

Tools

The following tools are installed in acarrier, located in the centre of thespare wheel:

1. Wheelbrace

2. Jack with handle3. Removable towing eye

Removing the wheel

Remove the trim.

Release the wheel bolts using thewheelbrace 1.

Access to the spare wheel andthe jack in the boot

Remove the carpet then theplastic cover using the handle.

Tyre pressure

This is indicated on the labelpositioned on the interior pillar of theleft door, see "Identification".

Refitting the wheel

Position the wheel.

Screw in the bolts fully by hand.

Never go underneath avehicle supported only by ajack (use an axle stand).

After changing a wheel:

- have the tightening of the bolts andthe pressure of the spare wheelchecked as soon as possible,

- have the punctured wheel repairedand refit it on the vehicle as soonas possible.


Place the jack 2 in contact with oneof the four locations A provided onthe underframe, the one closest tothe wheel to be changed.

Extend the jack 2 until its base isin contact with the ground. Ensurethat the centreline of the jack baseis directly below the location Aused.

Lift the vehicle.

Remove the bolts and detach thewheel.

Pre-tighten* using the wheel-brace 1.

Fold the jack 2 and detach it.

Tighten the wheel bolts using thewheelbrace 1.

Refit the trim.

Store the tools and the wheel in

the boot.

* If your vehicle is fitted with alloy wheels, when tightening the bolts on the steel spare wheel it is normal to notice that thewashers do not come into contact with the spare wheel. This does not impact upon the security of the wheel.

CHANGING A BULB

Turn the bulb holderA one quarterof a turn and remove it.

Remove the bulb and change it.

3. Dipped headlamps /Main beam headlamps(H4 - 60/55W)

Disconnect the connector.

Remove the rubberC.

Push the tab D on the side.

Remove the bulb holder andchange the bulb.

Refit the bulb holder, the tab thenthe rubber.

If you encounter any difficulties,contact a PEUGEOT dealer.

2. Direction indicators(PY 21 W amber)

Turn the bulb holderB one quarterof a turn and remove it.

Turn the bulb one quarter of a turn. Remove the bulb and change it.If you encounter any difficulties,contacta PEUGEOT dealer.

Note: in certain climaticconditions (low temperatures,humidity), the presenceof condensation on the

internal face of the headlamps isnormal; it disappears a few minutesafter the lights are switched on.

These 3 bulbs are changed byremoving the light:

open the boot,

unscrew the two light fixingnuts A,

remove the light unit by pullingoutwards,

unclip the harness,

remove the bulb holder movingaside the four tabs B,

remove the bulb and change it.

Note: when refitting, proceed inthe reverse order and take care toposition the bulb holder, the tabs andthe light correctly.

Third brake light(Four W 5 W bulbs)

Unscrew the 2 fixing bolts A.

Release the lamp unit by pushingthe two tabs B inwards.

Disconnect the connector and therear wash-wipe pipe.

Remove the bulb holder.


When refitting, proceed in thereverse order and ensure that thelamp unit seal and the rear wash-wipe pipe have been put back inplace correctly.

Number plate lights (W 5 W)

Pass your hand under thebumper.

Remove the bulb holder turning itone quarter of a turn.


Direction indicator siderepeaters (WY 5 W amber)

Push the repeater forwards orrearwards and detach it by pullingtowards you.

Disconnect the bulb holder andchange it.

Do not tighten the bolts morethan is necessary at the risk

of breaking the light.

CHANGING A FUSE

The fuse boxes are located under theinstrument panel trim and next to thebattery in the engine compartment.

Before changing a fuse, the causeof the incident must be found andrectified.

BATTERY

To charge the battery using abattery charger:

- Disconnect the battery,- Follow the instructions for use

given by the battery chargermanufacturer,

- Reconnect starting with thenegative (-) terminal,

- Check that the terminals andconnectors are clean. If they arecovered with sulphate (white orgreenish deposit), disconnect themand clean them.

Do not push the vehicle tostart the engine if you have a"2 Tronic" gearbox.

Before disconnecting thebattery, you must wait for2 minutes after switching offthe ignition.

Never disconnect a terminal whenthe engine is running.

Never charge a battery without firstdisconnecting the terminals.

Close the windows and doors beforedisconnecting the battery.

After every reconnection of thebattery, switch on the ignition andwait 1 minute before starting toallow the electronic systems to beinitialised. If slight difficulties areexperienced after this, please consulta PEUGEOT dealer.

To start the vehicle fromanother battery:

- Connect the red cable to the positive(+) terminals of the two batteries,

- Connect one end of the greenor black cable to the negative (-)

terminal of the slave battery B,- Connect the other end of the green

or black cable to an earth point Con the broken down vehicle as faras possible from the battery,

- Operate the starter, let the enginerun,

- Wait for the engine to return to idle,then disconnect the cables.

It is advisable to disconnectthe battery if the vehicle isnot to be used for a period ofmore than one month.

The batteries contain harmfulsubstances such as sulphuric

acid and lead. They mustbe discarded in accordancewith the provisions of the law andmust not, in any circumstances, bediscarded with household waste.

Return used batteries to a specialcollection point.

TOWING YOUR VEHICLE

Your vehicle can only be towed atthe front.

Lifting(2 wheels only on the road)

It is preferable to raise the vehicle bythe wheels.

Never use the radiator crossmem-ber.

Towing with fours wheels on theroad must be carried out at very lowspeed over a very short distance (inaccordance with the legislation inforce).

In all other cases, your vehicle mustbe transported on a trailer.

When your vehicle isbeing towed with theengine switched off, thereis no braking or steeringassistance.

Without lifting(4 wheels on the road)

You should always use a towbar.

The removable towing eye is storedin the spare wheel, under the bootcarpet.

Unclip the bottom of the cover,

Screw in the towing eye until itlocks.

Place the gear lever inposition N for the "2 Tronic"gearbox.
