NANAIMO BOAT BASIN MARINA Summer 2019
We are only as good as the
feedback we receive!
“My wife was ecstatic with the
adjustment to your shower,
We provided feedback last year
asking if there could be im-
proved temperature selection
provided.
We came back in 2019 and to
our surprise the changes were
made.
We knew you were listening,
Thank You!”

World Ocean’s Day
June 8th, the Port of Nanaimo teamed up with the City of Nanaimo, Depart-
ment of Fisheries and Oceans and Snuneymuxw First Nations to host a World
Oceans Day event. The day was filled with all different activities for all ages
starting with a beach cleanup where several community members volunteered
to clean up the beaches around Nanaimo’s harbour. Activities stretched from
the harbour shoreline south of the Nanaimo Yacht Club to MSP, and the park
to Saysutshun. The Port also teamed up with Sundown Diving and Nanaimo
Dive Outfitters to dive in certain spots of the marina and collect garbage that
has been resting at the bottom of the Marina. In just two hours, the team col-
lected SEVEN BINS OF GARBAGE! Overall, the day was a huge success and
getting the message to the City of Nanaimo that we are taking the steps to
help create a cleaner and safer ocean for everyone, showcasing our Green
Marine partnership. The benefits are plentiful with cleaner waters for ma-
rine life and users of the harbour.
Van Isle 360 The Van Isle 360 started and fin-
ished in Nanaimo this year. Start-
ing June 1st, competitors raced
around Vancouver Island until
they finished back in Nanaimo on
June 15th. 65 Red Roses II fin-
ished 1st in the overall rankings
with an impressive score of 19,
squeaking just passed boats Blue,
who scored a 20, and Smoke, 21.
Race organizers Jeff and Sylvia
were very complementary to the
Port of Nanaimo for the smooth
running race and hospitality in
Nanaimo.
Blue, who finished 2nd, docked in the harbor before the 2019 Van Isle 360
UPDATE: The crane located on the
visiting vessel pier is back up and
operational again. The crane has gone
through a substantial upgrade with the
safety of the operator being the focus
of the upgrades. All customers old and
new must go to the marina offices to
have a walk through with marina staff
on how to operate the crane in a safe
manner.

WIFI NOTICE:
A new Wi-Fi system has been
installed to alleviate some of
the connection issues experi-
enced by users in marinas.
Common issues for discon-
necting are interference from
masts, abundance of steel,
tides, neighborhood use, and
over-streaming in peak peri-
ods. Also, some phones have
security settings that make it
difficult to connect. Please be
patient as were are doing our
best to provide this free
service.
MARINA STAFF CHANGES
Full Time Staff Change
After 24 years working for the marina both as a
wharfinger and maintenance, Lorne Kraft is retir-
ing. Mike Davidson, COO of the Port of Nanaimo
said, “It is not often that you have an employee
retire from the workplace with over 24 years of service. Lorne pro-
vided many years of service and contributing to the growth and
success of the Port. Working in the Marina office he was a first con-
tact to thousands of boating visitors and strived to make their visit
to Nanaimo memorable. On behalf of the Port, we
wish Lorne a long and enjoyable retirement.”
We welcome Jason Brunt as he will take over for
Lorne as a full-time marina staff member.
Summertime Wharfingers
With more traffic flowing in and out of the Nanaimo harbour in the
summer time, the Marina hired four new employees for the sum-
mer. Denean Fred, Zahnil Lal, Dylan Phillips, Ryo Sugisaki will join
three year veterans Avery Watson and Dexter Lankenau for the
summer!

Boat Basin Facts You Should Know Recycling / Garbage We have implemented a recycling program which is able to
recycle most items. The blue bins are in the garbage area and are clearly marked. Unfortunately at this time WE CANNOT recycle: Soft Plastics, Glass and bottles. Please empty plastic bags with recyclables into the bins and then put plastic bags in the garbage as they are not recyclable.
Reservations Taken (April to September) a minimum of 48 hours prior to the desired day of arrival, allowing a minimum 24 hours cancellation notice. Reservations are $15.00 plus gst. Parking is available for hourly, daily and/or monthly terms. The Loading/Drop Off Zone often attracts vehicles that overstay the short allotted time and prevent broader use by more users. Please ensure that you move your vehicle when your immediate task is complete to avoid a parking violation. Parking patrols are in place to make more space available for more users more often ensuring convenience in a very busy area.
Specific Docks for Specific Purposes During the summer, Transient ves-sels (and pleasure vessels) are provided moorage on Docks E to S. Com-mercial Fishing Vessels are given priority on docks B to D/E - All vessels must registered with the Marina Office to ensure that your vessel is moored in an appropriate space.
Security / Gates are locked at approx. 12:00 (Midnight) and opened starting at 6:00 a.m. When gates are locked, access can be gained by calling 250-268-2021. The Security centre will log the call, radio the commissionaire on duty to alert and respond to the person requiring access,

one in Departure Bay, the other between Protection Island and the Boat
Basin Marina. A vessel’s course should be predictable to an incoming
plane - “right of way” should be given at all times. Observe extreme caution
