In Guinea, some 200 miles to the west and near the headwaters of the Niger, the same geology, including the Birimian schists and the laterite, is being explored in an ongoing program. Here the placer deposits are being drilled with a bucket auger drill with good success. The drill is capable of reaching bedrock at 36 feet and returning samples of one quarter yard for each 3 feet of drilling. Each sample is washed through a Goldfield Prospector, the concentrates are panned and amalgamated. The separated amalgam is parted with nitric acid and the crude gold is washed, dried and weighed on the site. Results are available the same day that the samples are washed.

In addition to the Ghana property listed above the following are available:

1. Sunrise Mine in Maricopa Countv. Arizona, a small high grade mine for the man who says that all he wants in life is a small high grade vein that he can work and process hi rnself.

2. A new report on the Alvarado mine in Yavaaai Countv. Arizona is being prepared. The last time I talked with the owner he was in a reasonable mood.

3. 1 have a handle on a Montana placer property which has the potential for a large -+\ yardage with reasonable values. This property has several old workings but little written

history. It has had been in the control of only two people since the 1930's. --

------ C 4. Title to the Bia ~en@brnan Grinder Yavga i County. Arizona, has been cleared and the \I

! property is available for examination. This property needs a shallow drilling program to / confirm or disprove a 300,000 tons reserve at 0.03 opt in Gold. +-I

<-

5. The Punkin Glow silver propertv in Mar ico~a Count~ . Arizona, has a showing of silver values along a vein strike of 1200 feet. The area needs a shallow drilling program. Reasonable terms are available.

6. 1 have a list of properties in the Tertiary aravels of California that I have been thinning and narrowing over the past 2 years. I do not have any strings on these properties and negd to find someone who wculd be willing to v-ork out a grubstake, with me as the grubbee. There is about one weeks work on each site to determine ownership and environmental requirements.

7. 1 have prepared a list of nonmetallic de~os i ts within a 100 mile radius of Phoenix in the anticipation that someone may be interested in getting into industrial minerals in Arizona. The cost of copying this index is $40.

He: Organ Grinder Claims 3.2 S.2 S.X., Sec. 36, T. l ? N y R. lO'fi., S a l t a v e r Basin Xeridian, Yavapai County, Ar izona .

Dear Sir: -

On June 25 , 1979, as p e r your request, I made a p re l imina ry s u rvey of the geology and economic minerals of t h e eastern p a r t of t h e Organ Grinder Claims a t t h s l o c a t i o n described above. A d d i t i o n a l in format ioc was gained from ~ u b l i c a t i o n s of the A r i z o n a Bureau of Geology and Mineral ~ e c h n o l o ~ ~ .

The geo log ic environment i n t h e Organ Grlnder Claims area appears deceptively simple. Rerb are numerous exposures of plutonic in t rus ives ( ~ a v a ~ a i Series ( ? ) ) of Precambrian (? ) Age which appear to 5e e i t h e r g r a n i t e o r q u a r t z monzonite. Some of t h i s rock i s of unusual c r y s t a l l i n e structure w i t h phenocrys ta (4'' - 1") of f e l d s p a r i n a coarse-grained ground mass of minerals typical of granitic-tjpe rocks.

Tnese phenocrysts f a i l to exhibi t t h e s t r i a t i o n s generally found on at l eas t one of t h e cleavage f a c e s of p l ag ioc l a se . F o r this reason and o t h e r s ( a l t e r a t i o n debr is , c o l o r ) , I prefer ( i n the absence of pe t rographic o r spectrographic analysis) to i den t i fy the phenocrys t s as o r thoc l a se ( o r micro- c l i n e ? ). Intnided i n t o t h i s g r a n i t i c - t y p e rock a r e numerous d ikes o r w i n s of i r cn - s t a i ned qua r t z , some of s u f f i c i e n t thickness to provide topographic exp re s s ion because of t he i r s l iperior resistance to weather ing and e r o s i o n ,

To the west (as w e l l as cons iderab ly s o u t h ) of y.. nur claims are vast e x o s u r e s of metamorphosed p l u t o n i c rock of unlinovm age ( ~ r e c a m b r i a n ( ? ) ) . Mr. Mason Coeqin 317 E. Griswold Phoenix, AZ 85020

Dear Masono

Enclosed i s a copy of a letter andcopies of assays that we received from a company i n Reno, Nevada. As you would see 'they turned our property down.

A t t h e ssrne time I want to thank you for your letter o f A p r i l 12, 1988.

We have not heard anything more from some o f the compan- ies who requested information about our claims except for a few who turned it down for some reason or another. The only one who made us an offer was Alma American Corp. from Colorado which you know we turned it down.

I would like to request from you if you would make the e f f o r t t o g e t hold of the names and addresses of Canadian Min- ing Companies, perhaps through our friend John Jett, and cont- act them about ou r mining claims,, I have a feeling that our neighbors up north are more willing to take chances than our American companies.

Please, Mason, work diligently towards finding a buyer f o r our claims as keeping them up is ge t t i ng to be a fjrancial burden even for me too. I - ?

Do you have any suggestions or ideas? Please adfise:

NEWS RELESSE

January 4 , 1 9 8 4

Hinac Resources L t d , w ishes to announce t h a t for the p a s t two months it has been actively searching f o r precious m e t a l properties of merit in the southwestern United S t a t e s and, from numerous submissions received, has selected several for possible acquisition.

In p a r t i c u l a r , Bimac is p r e s e n t l y negotiating an option agreemect on t he Big Ben property situated 4 0 m i l e s north of Wickenburg, Arizona, ad joining the Organ Grinder property currently under investigation by New Tyee Resources L4 L t d .

The Big Ben proper ty embraces a large and conspicuous surface colour anomaly attributed to oxidation of iron su l - ph ides in f r a c t u r e d and sheared Precambrian g r a n i t e . Within t h i s a l t e r a t i o n zone several o ld s h a f t s and pits have been sunk on var ious q u a r t z veins and s t r i n g e r s up to 10 inches ( 2 5 cm) in w i d t h . Recent random sampling of the vein natexial from five locat ions w i t h i n an area of 600 feet by 300 feet (180x1 x 90m) has returned gold assays rangincj from 0.042 oz/ t o n to 0 . 7 2 4 oz/ton and averaging 0.306 oz/ton in gold and 0.76 oz / ton in silver.

In view of the encoeuaging results obtained from trenching in a similar geological s e t t i n g , 4 mile (800x1) to the south on the Organ Gr inde r p r o p e r t y , it is reasonable to expect t h a t t h e altered g r a n i t e c o n t a i n i n g the gold-bearing quartz veins on the Big Ben property may itself be gold bearing. If such is the case there appears to be po ten t i a l f o r very large reserves of open-pit ore amenable to heap- leaching.

Tiie geo log i c environment i n t h e Organ GrLnder Claims area appears decep t ive ly simple. There are numerous exposures of p h tonic i n t m s i v e s (Yava?ai S e r i e s (? ) ) of Precambrian (? ) Age which a?pe;r to be either granite o r quartz monzonite. Some of this rock i s of u m s u a l crystalline s t r u c t u r e w i t h phenocrysts (itr - 1") of feldspar in a coarse-grained ground mass of nlnerals typical of granitic- t : q e rocks.

21 March 1975.

R3CONNhISsmEX GEOLOGICAL INVESTIGATION OP THE BIG BEN GOLD CLAIMS, 47+ miles NY Wickenburg,Arrastra Mountains,Yavapai County,Arizona.

The writer, accompanied by D.D. Seely,Topeka, Kansas ( ~ h 913- 562-4600) and Henry Bain, 41711 Grand River,Novi,Michigan,48050, (owners o f the Big Ben mining- claims), examined the eight (8) lode claims comprising the Big Ben group en February 27, 1975. The claims are in Yavapai County and twe(2) miles West of U.S. highway 93,(spposite the turnoff to ~agdad,Arizona). See attached map " A H . Msgrs. Seely and Bain spend t h e i r Winters i n Wickenburg and are very familiar with t h e Area. Mr. Seely has operated mines in the past.

The g e n e r a l area of the claims is Precambrian pluton granites, which are very interesting, in that some are graphic granites and have large phenecrysts and laths ~f feldspar. Some are several inches in length. In the mentioned granite f e r m a t i e n s are faults, fissures, and joints containing auriferieus bearing minerals megascopically identified as reddish felsites, feldspars, and iron stained quartz. These minerals are much ysunger than the granites.

On c la im, Big Ben No. 2 is an old adit extending Northward about 200 f e e t and than d r i f t i n g t e the right abeut 50 feet. It appanently f o l l o w s about a twe(2) f o o t ve in sf r e d d i s h g o l d bear ing q u a r t z . B sample was taken near the portal ( s e e samples outlined

b be low) . The Big Bern claims generally trend te the dest a long cettenwoed Canyen and many outcrops of geld bearing rmcka:810ng this wash. Several are in excess of six(6) feet in width. Dear Anamaria:

Attached is the letter that 1 have written for your signature to the M. State Land Department and a copy of Dr. Free's Reporr. 1Re strong

language should do the trick. The state's main concern is the restoration of the trenches and the lapsed reclaimation bond. From my discussion with .

Mr. Rice, he feels that if the trenches were filled in or if a new bond could be found to cover the existing trenches the state would issue the permit.

I hope that you will not be liable for filling in these trenches it could cost several thousand dollars. I do not know what arrangements were made with Rampo, Gerber or New Tyree for reclaimation. Please check into this.

I am sending out the copies of the above letter to the named individuals to save time.

Sincerely, /Z

Mr. Michael Rice Natural Resource Planner Arizona State Land ~ ' pa r tmen t 1624 West Adams Phoenix, Arizona 85007

Dear Mr. Rice:

I have received notification in the mail from your department that they are withholding my application 808-942 12 for a prospecting permit pending restoration of Section 2, T12N, RlOW and that you are not .

accepting anymore applications at this time.

Through my late husband Mr. A. M. Jones and his partner Mr. Henry Bain we explored and developed our prospecting permits and have developed a reserve worthy of persistence. The cost of this work was well over $200,000. A copy of a report by Dr. B. Free and other results of exploration are attached. As you can see we acted in the good faith that the state would honor its commitment to protect our interests.

We now find that the state is planning to give these lands to the federal government so that they can be placed in a wilderness reserve where our rights to mine our discovery would be forever lost. They plan to discontinue our lease although we have diligently followed a logical exploration program. I feel that the State Land Department has not acted in good faith and should either renew our lease or compensate us for the costs and the loss of this valuable discovery.

We were still in the process of exploring these lands when we were . notified of your intent. I have hired a Professional Mining Engineer, H.

Mason Coggin of Phoenix, to help me in this regard. He has recommended that the trenches be left open for examination and sampling until further work can be done. 'He is in the process of finding new money for the exploration of this property and has shown the property to several geologists. Several of the companies represented have expressed an interest in the further exploration of these lands.

Page 59: docs.azgs.az.govdocs.azgs.az.gov/onlineaccessminefiles/A-B/BigBen1of2...feet of drilling. Each sample is washed through a Goldfield Prospector, the concentrates are panned and amalgamated

- 7 * Mr. Poe of Rampo, Inc. has also continued to work with us in the

exploration of these ifh. . adjacent prospecting p % - - per mr:: <) now has a company who is williig to dertake further exploration?' W e have been working with this company under the assumption that the state would continue our lease. It would have reimbursed me for some of my costs and provided for the continued exploration of the property. This potential contract is now lost.

I believe that the State Land Department has acted irresponsibly to my trust and will cause me serious financial injury if they do not honor my application. In this case, 1 will consider what ever options I may have available.

Sincerely,

Anamaria Jones widow of A. M. Jones

It is pointed out t h a t trle above sarnpling,iby t he writer, is t o o l i m i t e d to be conclusive, and i s inadequate t e de te rmine potential value o f t h e claims. It c o n f i r m s to a degree, the sampling assays o f Mr. Bain (which were a l s o added t e this r e p o r t ) .

Perhaps t h e assays are on the high s i d e .
