Description: This policy is not a substitution for a comprehensive crisis manual. The purpose of this policy is to support agency staff (particularly Managers) in dealing consistently and effectively with challenging situations that may affect the health, safety and well-being of the children and employees. Information is provided on the following topics: Child Medical Emergency, Employee Injuries, Parent/Third Party Injuries, Child Left Unattended, Child Abuse Alleged of Staff (sexual or physical), Contagious or Serious Illness, Food, Medication, Formula or Breast Milk Issues, Unannounced Visit from Police or Child Protective Services, Allegations of Discrimination, Media Contact and Child’s Safety Upon Release. In addition, you will find procedures for handling Facilities, Transportation, and Weather Emergencies such as Fire, Bomb Threats, Earthquake, Tornado, Van or Bus mechanical failure and witnessing a road accident. The Significant Incident Report form can be used for internal reporting and documentation of any serious incident (e.g. risk or potential risk to child health/safety, employee health/safety, or agency).
