When documents get wetWhat happens when documents get wet? Deterioration begins as

moisture is absorbed into the paper. Swelling, adhesion, distortion,

and discolouration can make the item unusable unless they are

c o rre c t l y p ro c e s s e d . M o i s t o r w e t p a p e r p rov i d e s a n i d e a l

environment for the growth of bacteria and mould. Some indications

of these contaminants are odour or discolouration.

Water damaged files can be restored. Our new generation of vacuum

freeze dryers, and thermal vacuum freeze dryers are specifically

designed for books, documents and paper materials. Often, by using

these processes, no further restoration is required after drying is

completed.

Our technicians successfully restore a wide range of materials and

delicate paper items from single documents to entire libraries and

water damaged collections. Thanks to BELFOR’s technical processes

it is difficult to distinguish the difference between a restored file and

Mould, mildew or bacteria attack papermaterialsPaper itself is a food source. Mould, mildew, book

lice, and other organisms thrive on paper. Often

the contamination is far worse than it appears

as the microorganism spreads through the matrix

of the cellulose.

Other damage can be caused by industrial toxins

o r p o l l u t a n t s a n d c a n t u r n p a p e r ye l l ow a n d

brittle. Our technicians identify the cause of the

deterioration and stop the decay quickly and

chemical balance. Trimming or reprocessing may

be required if permanent damage has occurred.

Any adhered soot particles must be removed to

extinguish the fire, bacteria and mould can grow

Bringing restoration to you Your documents have the greatest chance of survival if treated as

soon as possible. Deterioration is stopped quickly and restoration
