Forms Processing
Extracting Data from Documents
• This is also known as “Forms Processing” • Automatically retrieving data off documents for
indexing (tagging) • Usually done by software that can
interpret/recognize machine print, handprint, barcodes, keywords, and other types of items on a document
• Three tradeoffs of forms processing: – Cost – Speed – Accuracy
Recognition Software Techniques
• Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
• Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR)
• Optical Mark Recognition (OMR)
