The following bibliography has been compiled to introduce students to the reference resources of politicalscience including international relations and to suggest useful bibliographic tools to facilitate literature searches. Sincethis list is limited to general reference works, readers who are interested in specific political topics or area studies areadvised to search MUSE using the S = command for topics such as: TERRORISM, POLITICAL PARTIES, PARTIES,COMPARATIVE GOVERNMENT, SOCIALISM etc. The Reference collection also contains many specialized subjectbibliographies on people (e.g. Marx), their ideas (e.g. Marxism) and political philosophies, concepts and systems (e.g.Communism).

Government publications are an important source of material for political science. The Government DocumentsDepartment, 2nd floor, McLennan Library has a large collection of documents including special indexes andbibliographies not covered in this guide. McGill is a depository library for the following: Canadian Federal Government,Quebec Provincial Government, the United Nations and the European Union. In addition, representative collections fromthe other provinces, the United States, and Great Britain as well as smaller collections from various other countries are

maintained.

Machine Readable Data Files (MRDF) are made available through the collaboration of the Faculty of Arts.Computer Lab (FACL), the library and the Computing Centre. Data have been acquired through McGill University'smembership in the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research ( ICPSR].
