Abstract

This report is *a compilation of data from twelve boreholes drilled inArea 25 under the guidance of the Sandia National Laboratory. Theywere drilled to provide samples and alluvial thickness determinationsfor the repository surface facilities, especially with respect tofoundation conditions. Data presented in the hole histories includeall locations, daily activities and review of hole conditions.

UE-25 RF #11HOLE HISTORY

07-29-85 Moved in Joy #1, rig #85172 and equipment.

07-30-85 Rigged up. Made up 4.25" CDP core bit and HCQ barrel on HCQ rods.Cut 4.25" core #1 from 0' to 2' with conventional circulation usinggel and polymer mud. Made up 9-7/8" bit assembly. Opened 4.25"hole and drilled 9-7/8" hole from 0' to 35'. Cut 4.25" core #2from 35' to 40'. Opened 4.25" hole to 9-7/8" to 40'.

07-31-85 Cut 4.25" cores #3 thru #8 from 40' to 77' using gel mud. Lostreturns at 56'.

08-01-85 Opened 4.25" hole to 9-7/8" from 40' to 77' and drilled 9-7/8" holeto 78'. Displaced mud with water and laid down tools. Ran and set6" O.D., sch. 40 PVC pipe with cap on bottom at 78'. Cemented theannulus to surface using Halliburton with 50 ft 3 of neat cement +2% CaCl 2 & 25# of Gilsonite/sk. CIP at 1§30 hours. Calculatedannular volume based on gauge hole was 26 ftW.

08-02-85 Made trip in with 3-1/2" drill pipe open ended. Blew out fluid andlaid down drill pipe. Rigged down and moved out. Hole completed08-02-85.

08-05-85 Cleaned location and moved all equipment to area 25 subdock.

UE-25 RF #11REVIEW OF HOLE CONDITIONS

251 mm (9-7/8") hole was drilled to a total depth of 23.8 m (78') withconventional circulation using gel and polymer mud. A total of eight108 mm(4.25") cores were cut during drilling. 152 mm (6") PVC pipe was set at23.8 m (78') and the annulus cemented to the surface with 1.42 m (50 ft3 ) ofneat cement + 2% CaC12 and 11.34 kg (25#) of Gilsonite/sk. Calculated annularvolume based on gauge hole was 0.74 m3 (26 ft ). Hole completed 08-02-85.
