Abstract

This report is *a compilation of data from twelve boreholes drilled inArea 25 under the guidance of the Sandia National Laboratory. Theywere drilled to provide samples and alluvial thickness determinationsfor the repository surface facilities, especially with respect tofoundation conditions. Data presented in the hole histories includeall locations, daily activities and review of hole conditions.

Made trip for HCQcore bit and barrel. Cut HCQ core #1 from 10' to 12'. Made tripfor 8-3/4" bit,- recovered 2' core. Opened HCQ hole to 8-3/4" from10' to 12' and drilled 8-3/4" hole to 22'. Made trip for HCQ corebit and barrel. Cut HCQ core #2 from 22' to 22.2'. Made trip for8-3/4" bit, recovered 0.2' core. Opened HCQ hole to 8-3/4" from22' to 22.2' and drilled 8-3/4" hole to 29'. Made trip out andsecured rig.

Cut 8-3/4" core #6 from122' to 127'. Made trip for 9-7/8" bit, recovered 5' core. Opened8-3/4" hole to 9-7/8" from 0' to 98'. Made trip out, laid downderrick, and secured rig at 1600 hours.

Rig secured from 01-27-84 to 1200 hours, 02-06-84. Rigged up andmade trip in with 8-3/4" hammer drill to 105'. Secured rig at 1600hours.

02-07-84 Rig secured from 02-06-84 to 0800 hours. Cleaned out hole to 127'and drilled 8-3/4" hole from 127' to 140' using air and water.Conditioned hole and made trip for 8-3/4" x 4" core bit and barrel.:Secured rig at 1600 hours.

02-08-84 Rig secured to 0800 hours. Cut 8-3/4" core #7 from 140' to 145'.Laid down HCQ tools, recovered 5' core. Ran, worked and set 7-5/8"flush joint, buttress thd. casing at 99'. Two derrick girts werebroken while running casing. Rigged down and moved out. Holecompleted 02-08-84.

05-21-84 Moved in Joy #1, rig #85172 and rigged up. Made trip in with6-1/4" bit on 2-3/8" drill pipe and cleaned out hole to 132', holesloughed.

05-22-84 Cleaned out and conditioned hole to 145'. Pulled up and taggedfill at 140'. Made trip out, rigged down, and moved out.

UE-25 RF #1REVIEW OF HOLE CONDITIONS

222 mm (8-3/4") hole was drilled to 38.7 m (127') with conventional circulationusing air-soap, air foam, and air-water, sloughing was encountered at 25.9 m(85'). Six 102 mm (4f) cores were cut during drilling. Hole was opened to251 mm (9-7/8") to 29.9 m (98'). 222 mm (8-3/4") hole was drilled to a totaldepth of 44.2 m (145') using air and water. One 102 mm (4") core was cut from42.7 m (140') to 44.2 m (145'). 194 mm (7-5/8") casing was set at 30.2 m (99').Hole completed 02-08-84. Attempted to clean out fill, hole continued sloughing05-22-84.

Hole was then reamed and twenty-four 101 mm (3.987") coreswere cut to a depth of 46.0 m (151'). Hole was opened to 251 mm (9-7/8") to43.0 m (141') using polymer mud. 203 mm (8") casing with bottom orange peeledwas set at 42.1 m (138'). Hole completed 04-09-84. Twenty-one 100 mm (3.937")cores were cut to a total depth of 91.7 m (301'). Hole recompleted 07-22-85.
