COVID-19 SAFETY REGULATIONS

The dog show community has been anxious to get back to our show routines for most of the year. BTCA and GABTC listened to the wishes of our members and have worked hard to make these specialty shows a reality. Thank you for entering and attending these shows.

In order to have the shows, we must follow rules and guidelines that allow everyone to be safe and remain healthy. Please help us by complying with these rules and guidelines and encourag-ing each other to do so. Please do not confront others who are not complying with the rules, but instead report it to the show chairs and club presidents so that they can handle the situation. We all want to continue to have shows and that is best accomplished by complying with the rules.

Exhibitor/Attendee Rules: 1. All attendees must follow facility, local, state, AKC, and CDC guidelines as described here.

These guidelines will be the MINIMUM standard. If the facility, local, state, AKC, and CDC guidelines are stricter at the time of the show then those stricter guidelines will be the mini-mum standard. Please check the BTCA National Specialty and Foy Trent Dog Shows websites for the most current information.

2. Face coverings are REQUIRED inside the Beach Dome and inside all Callaway buildings. Face coverings are defined as (1) a mask properly worn covering both the mouth and nose or (2) face shield properly worn vertically over the face, extending around the sides of the face and below the person’s chin level. Face coverings must cover both the mouth and nose, may NOT be removed except to drink water or other beverages, and must be returned to their proper position when not actually drinking (between sips of the beverage).

3. If you have recently been exposed another person who has symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19 within the previous 14 days, please stay home or in your show week accommoda-tions. DO NOT come to the show site.

4. If you are or feel sick or unwell, or have any symptoms of COVID-19, please stay home or in your show week accommodations. Symptoms include coughing, sneezing, fever, sore throat, recent loss of taste and/or smell, as well as a number of others. Please consult the CDC web-site or state health agencies to determine whether you have symptoms.

5. All show workers, judges, committee members, and attendees will be required to complete a daily self-assessment and sign a waiver before admission to the show site. At the time of admission, a colored wristband will be given to the person and must be worn at all times and events that day.

6. Social distancing (currently 6 feet in all directions) MUST be accomplished when indoors and near building entrances and exits. This includes at all areas of the Beach Dome (in and around show rings, grooming/crating areas, vendor or club booths, seating/observation are-as, and areas not designated for specific purposes). Social distancing must also be accom-plished when in line at the food truck and when in outdoor areas. The ONLY exception for this social distancing requirement is cohabiting persons, defined as people live in the same home and/or who have traveled together to the shows and/or who are rooming together during the week.

7. It is expected that each person in attendance will bring with him/her face coverings, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, etc. for his/her own personal use. Please be considerate of others and remember refrain from using highly scented products.

8. Hand sanitizer stations will be provided at all entrances and exits and at other locations throughout the show site. Attendees should wash or sanitize their hands frequently through-out the day. Sanitizer, wipes, and other items at the judges’ and stewards’ tables are for their use only and NOT for other attendees.

9. There will be no community use catalogues or pens available. Please know your dogs’ num-bers when picking up armbands. Catalogues will be available for purchase at designated club tables.

10. NO FANS, motorized or not, may be used around people or outside of grooming/crating areas. Please monitor weather forecasts and dress according to the expected conditions.

2020 National Host Specialties 5

11. Bleachers/risers will be available for seating to observe the shows. These will be marked so that social distancing is accomplished. Personal chairs may be used in designated areas, but may not be left overnight and must be positioned no closer than 6 feet on all sides from other chairs, show ring, or aisles. The ONLY exception for these social distancing require-ments in seating areas are those listed in item 6 above.

12. Socializing should be done outside the Beach Dome as much as possible. This will help us to remain within the occupancy limits and keep everyone safer. Callaway Resort and Gardens encompasses over 2,500 acres so there is ample space to enjoy being with friends.

Grooming/Crating: 1. Free reserved grooming/crating is available inside the Beach Dome. Please fill out the form

available (available in the premium list and on the BTCA website) and return it to Tina Starr on or before September 15, 2020.

2. People in the indoor grooming/crating area must wear face coverings as required in other indoor areas.

3. Please bring everything needed to keep your dogs cool and comfortable. Temperatures in late September/early October may be in the mid- to upper- 70’s or low 80’s, so plan accordingly.

4. Crate fans are allowed and encouraged. Fans must be position to direct air into the dogs’ crates and not into other exhibitors’ grooming/crating area. Fans may be used ONLY in desig-nated grooming/crating areas.

5. Personal pop-up tents may be used in designated areas outside the Beach Dome. Please fill out the form available in the premium list and on the BTCA website and return it to Tina Starr on or before September 15, 2020. These tents must be socially distanced (allowing people to walk between tents while maintaining 6-foot distance from other people). Face coverings are not required for people in these areas so long as proper social distancing, as defined above, is maintained.

6. Please mark all crates, tables, tents, and other personal belongings with your name and a contact telephone number.

Show Site: 1. Floors will be marked for social distancing. Please observe the markings and follow them

explicitly. 2. No crating, sitting, or standing is allowed within six (6) feet of the show ring except when en-

tering or exiting the ring. These areas will be marked and only active exhibitors will be allowed into these areas. Assistants holding dogs for handlers must observe these restrictions.

3. Maintain 6 feet between yourself and others when in the show ring. The ring floor will be marked accordingly.

4. Aisles will be clearly marked. No seating or standing within 6 feet of the aisles is allowed. 5. Social distance markings will be around all club and vendor areas. Please observe distancing

(at least 6 feet) in these areas. 6. The show ring will have separate entrance and exit. These will be clearly marked, but exhibi-

tors are encouraged to observe the ring in advance so that they understand the layout. 7. Please observe and obey all signs, especially those marking entrance and exit doors of build-

ings including the Beach Dome.

Food and Beverages: 1. Callaway Resort and Gardens policy prohibits food from outside vendors in indoor public spac-

es, including the Beach Dome. Exhibitors may, as always, bring bottled water for themselves and their dogs and complimentary ice water stations will be set up in the Beach Dome.

2. Attendees are asked to please eat outside the Beach Dome on show days (unless the specific event such as Boston Terrier of the Year or the banquet serves food).

3. The Callaway food truck will be present for attendees to purchase lunches daily. Current plans are to offer pulled pork BBQ, hot dogs, sandwiches, salads, packaged chips, ice cream, and soft drinks.

4. Callaway also has several restaurants scattered around the resort and there are many local eateries within just a few miles.

Attention Owners/Exhibitors of Foreign Registered Dogs

If you are the owner/exhibitor of a dog registered with a foreign registry (not yet dual registered with AKC) please review the eligibility requirements in The Rules Applying to Dog Shows, chapter 11 section 1. The dog show rules are posted on the AKC Website at http://images.akc.org/pdf/rulebooks/ RREGS3.pdf. Most important to note are the following: 1. Dogs must be individually registered with the American Kennel Club by the day of the event to

be eligible for exhibit in the Bred by Exhibitor class. 2. Dogs are eligible to compete in AKC events using the foreign registration for a period of 30 days.

That 30-day period begins with the date of first exhibit, regardless of whether the dog earned any points or awards. To continue to compete in AKC events beyond the initial 30-day period the dog must be either individually AKC registered or by the date of the event have been granted an extension to exhibit using the foreign registration. The owner or agent can request an extension using the form found on the AKC Web site at http://images.akc.org/pdf/extenap.pdf.

If you have question or need assistance with registration or obtaining an extension, please contact the AKC Special Services Department at: [email protected] or (919) 233-9767 (followed by selecting option 4). The Club and its Event Secretary caution all persons entering the show site and show grounds against all hazards which may exist, including, but not limited to: Condition of the site/grounds, parking/loading/unloading areas, entrances, floors and stairways, elevators and escalators, floor coverings, walkways, tenting/canopies, electrical appliances, cords and fittings, exercise pens, and the presence of animals. All persons should take into consideration this is a sporting event and dress, act and exercise caution appropriate for the activity involved. All persons entering the show, the grounds, site and show areas for whatever purpose do so entirely at their own risk. By virtue of entering the show, the entrant has indicated their acceptance of the terms listed in this premium list and assumes all risks involved. PUBLICATION RIGHTS: By entering this show, all owners, handlers, breeders and kennels agree that all rights to televise, videotape, photograph, advertise, promote and publicize or otherwise exploit this show, or the persons or animals participating in it or the results of the competition before, during or after the event, shall belong solely to The American Kennel Club and their Respective assigns, including the use of the names, likenesses or biographical matter of all dogs, owners, handlers, breeders and kennels participating in the show and no such owner, handler, breeder or kennel shall allow any other party to make commercial use of any videotape or photograph of any person or animal participating in this competition. Ramps can be used in emergency situations to judge any breed. In an emergency situation, where use of a ramp is not indicated in the premium list, an exhibitor has the option of withdrawing their entry and receiving a refund. For the judging of juniors the ramp may be used at the discretion of the judge for the ramp optional breeds.

How to make reservations: Reservations using our group rate cannot be made online. You must phone (toll free) 855-461-1758. Just tell the agent that you are with a group and use the group name 2020 BTCA or 2020 Boston Terrier Club.

Incidentals Charge: A $50.00 incidental charge will be held on your credit or debit card at check-in. This will only be actually charged to your card if you charge meals or other things to your room.

Pet Fee: The pet fee will be charged with your reservation. A non-refundable one-time pet fee of $60.00 per bedroom will be charged for all cottages and villas where dogs will stay. This covers up to 4 dogs per bedroom. There will be a $25 fee for each additional dog per bedroom. Dogs must be crated.

Damage Fee: Pets are only being allowed at the cottages and villas due to the change in accommodations brought about by the COVID situation. The cottages and villas are much nicer than the Mountain Creek Inn rooms we previously had (and those were nice rooms!). Consequently, if damage is found to the cottage or villa you will be charged a $200 damage fee. This will be charged only if damage is found and Callaway will make photos to document the damage.

COVID Waiver: Callaway will require you to sign a waiver at check-in. Each adult must sign the waiver and the parent/guardian of each person under 18 years of age must sign the waiver on their behalf.

Accommodations that DO Accept Dogs: Cottages are available with 1 or 2 bedrooms. Our group rate is $114 per bedroom per night plus $5.00 resort fee per bedroom per night. (A 1BR cottage will be $119 plus taxes per night; a 2BR will be $238 plus taxes per night.) All cottages have two bedrooms, each bedroom with its own full bath and two queen beds. Cottages also have a full kitchen (full-size stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher; small microwave; coffee pot; basic pots, pans, and glass baking dishes; basic kitchen utensils; stoneware plates, mugs, and bowls; flatware; drinking glasses), living area, deck with grill, screened porch, and a small deck with the second bedroom. Every cottage has its own wifi router and cable television (TVs in each bedroom and the living area). If you reserve a 1BR cottage it will actually be a 2BR cottage but the second bedroom along with its bathroom and deck will be locked off an inaccessible.

Standard and Moderate Villas are available with 2, 3 or 4 bedrooms, but deluxe villas are not available at our group rate. Pricing is the same as the cottages: $114.00 plus $5.00 resort fee per bedroom per night plus taxes.

Optional Accommodations if you will NOT have dogs staying with you at the resort: Our group rate for rooms at the Lodge and Spa is $179.00 per night plus $5.00 per night resort fee and taxes.

For those who prefer their own RVs: See below for some more advantages of staying at a cottage. If you do want to use your own RV, current plans are much the same with accommodations available at the same nearby RV resorts and state park. RV day parking will be available at the far end of the Beach parking area (at least a football field length from the Dome) and, if desired, at Mountain Creek Inn. There would be no charge for admission to the Beach Dome area of the resort but if you wish to tour the gardens, butterfly house, etc. then you would have to pay the daily admission fee (as was the case with our original contract). Additionally, limited overnight RV parking at Mountain Creek Inn is available at $114 per night plus $5 per night resort fee plus taxes and includes complimentary admission to the gardens.

Included with Accommodations:

Admission to the Gardens (and all that they include) and all of the resort amenities is included with your resort fee. Also included is complimentary parking.

Discounted Golf Cart Rentals: Our group members will receive a 25% discount on all pre-reserved golf carts (4- and 6-passenger available). Non-reserved cart rentals will be at the resort's published rates.

Recreation at the Resort: Popular activities at the resort include golf, tennis, fishing, and others. You may make reservations for these by contacting the resort. Due to the heavy demand for these activities, please cancel scheduled times at least 5 days in advance to avoid charge.

Advantages of Staying at the Cottages:

The cottages are beautiful, spacious, and relaxing. They also afford those who want to avoid

restaurants the ability to make your own meals. The cottages are the accommodations nearest the Beach Dome and your key card opens a gate that allows you to take a short-cut to the Dome. It takes about 5 minutes to go from the farthest cottages to the Beach Dome using this route. You can be as social or as distanced as you like at the cottages, unlike in hotel rooms where you must pass through the hallways and other common areas to access your room.

RESERVATION DEADLINE: The deadline for reservations at the group rate is August 26, 2020. After that time your accommo-dations and other items will be at the resort's standard rates.

2020 National Host Specialties 13

Show Site: Beach Dome: The show will be held in the Beach Dome (Circus Tent) located beside Robin Lake. This is a 25,000 sq. ft. enclosed space with no poles or obstructions. This will allow us to have the show ring, vendors, club tables, and crating in one place AND allow us to maintain physical distancing of people so that we stay as safe as possible.

The Beach Dome will have a new “skin” (the material that makes up the outside of the Dome) when we have our shows. We will be the first event in the renovated Dome!

This will not be a “Business As Usual” National!

There WILL be rules/restrictions to maintain an environment that is as safe as possible for every-one in attendance. We will establish a unified, strictly enforced set of rules and requirements for daily admission to the show building. We will plan based on current rules/guidance/best practic-es from federal (governmental, CDC, and WHO), state, local, Callaway, and AKC. Once developed and published in the Premium List this will be the MINIMUM requirement for the shows. As with everything in life, things may change. We may have to establish more stringent restrictions be-fore the shows but will do everything in our power to be sure that everyone is aware of those before they arrive in Georgia.

HELP WANTED AND NEEDED! All of the changes due to COVID and the inability of some of our long-time workers leave us needing lots of help with the shows. There are many jobs and many opportunities to help. Look for an e-mail early next week with a list of the help we need. There is something for everyone to do, matching whatever your talents and preference are. PLEASE VOL-UNTEER so that this exceptional National can be a success!
