Those who choose to serve our country demonstrate honor, courage, and commitment every day, sacrificing for the greater good. Throughout their military career, however, there can be times when that sacrifice negatively impacts those they love, including their pets.

Military service commitments can sometimes leave brave men and women at an unfortunate crossroad. Whether a deployment, permanent change of station or a temporary assignment, pets can be at risk of abandonment. To help military members in their time of need and to minimize the surrendering of animals to local shelters, Dogs on Deployment (DoD) provides a key resource to this very important community. By connecting individuals and families who are willing to board pets with military members in need, DoD provides a much-needed link that gives everyone peace of mind, human and animal.

DoD FOUNDERS: Shawn and Alisa Johnson with their dogs.

Looking Forward

MISSION SUCCESSDogs on Deployment's primary goal from contributions is to fund our Pet Chit Financial Assistance Program, providing monetary grants directly to military families in need for help with their pets' care.

From general procedures such as spay and neuter and vaccinations, to emergency treatment such as chemo therapy or joint repair surgeries, to basic needs such as food and transportation assistance, Dogs on Deployment aids military pets through our granting program.

Since 2012, Dogs on Deployment has awarded nearly $200,000 in financial assistance to help military and veteran families. Each year, we aim to increase the amount of funding we are able to grant through our Pet Chit Program. We can achieve this is two ways:

• Increase our incoming revenue by attracting new donors and sponsors.• Increase awareness of our program with military pet owners through advocacy and education.

As we grow as our organization, our goal is to maintain the highest level of program spending possible to ensure our mission is accomplished, and our funding is directly and positively impacting those it was intended to help. Our goal for 2016 is to grant $120,000 in our Pet Chit Financial Assistance Program.

Our network is continuously improved through needed technological and infrastructure updates, which makes our online foster network easier to use and more accessible to our military pet owners and volunteers.

Through providing the newest technology to our users, Dogs on Deployment’s network can better assist in the connection between military member and need, and volunteers who want to help.
