School—5491 4522 Unity College – 5490 5777 We recognise the traditional owners of this land the Gubbi Gubbi peoples. An important group within the life of any Parish is the Finance Council. While Caloundra Parish is fortunate to have the expertise of Don Rolls as Parish Manager, Church or Canon Law demands that there be a number of lay faithful who assist in the oversight of the parish’s temporal goods. In my own experience a Finance Council has been invaluable for several reasons. They prayerfully reflect upon the needs of the parish and use the funds entrusted to the parish to serve those needs. Ensure transparency and legality in the use of parish finances especially in the recording of income and expenditure. Take responsibility to provide a financial report to the parish each year. Are conscious of the need to maintain parish buildings and properties. Prepare a budget each year that guides parish expenditure. Two new members have joined the Finance Council and I am very grateful to Lucinda Maher and Cheryl Isles for their generosity and willingness to serve the Parish in this way and bring new insights and enthusiasm to our common task. They join Gerard McMahon, Robert McLean, Carmel Barr, Rob Boardman and Kevin Morgan. The priests, manager-Don Rolls, and accountant who is Dale Rolls as well as the school principal, Michael Stewart are ex officio members of the Council. At the last meeting a timeline for the construction of the columbarium was presented and this project should conclude by the end of July. Another significant decision was the recommendation to the Archdiocese that Caloundra Parish purchases a house in Beerwah that an Archdiocesan Agency was selling. This property is in a developing area where the church will require property to continue its mission in the future. Importantly, until required and in these times when housing affordability is so difficult the Parish can provide the house to a young family at reduced rent so that they can afford their own home much sooner. It is a very practical way to address an obvious need and at the same time prepare for future growth. Other issues that are being considered by the Council are the refurbishment of the OLR Church and building a Parish Centre in Caloundra. When further developments have been discussed by the Council details will be published for your consideration and feedback. Once again I express my thanks to the Council members for the very generous and practical way they serve the Parish and assist in the mission of the Church. This Sunday at 9.30 Mass the OLR community congratulates and thanks Jack Rice for his service to the church and our worship. Over the years Jack has gained an amazing knowledge and has prayerfully served us all by preparing the Altar for Mass and every other liturgy imaginable. We certainly look forward to Jack’s ongoing participation in our community and wish him and Marlene every blessing for health and happiness in the future. God Bless, Fr Kevin Edridge St carpark (South of the church) will be CLOSED for approx. 9 weeks from Monday 29/5/17 while the new columbarium is being built. The carpark may be available on weekends only. Please avoid this side of the Church and please do not use the door which leads to that carpark.
