7) The Love Walk Takes on New Meaning – a Wall of Protection

Why God Led Israel by Way of the Wilderness Instead of the Highway of the Philistines

Exodus 13:17-22 “When Pharaoh let the people go, God led them not by the Highway of the Philistines, although that was nearer; for God said, Lest the people change their purpose when

they see war and return to Egypt. (18) But God led the people around by way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the Israelites went up marshaled [in ranks] out of the land of Egypt. (19) And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for [Joseph] had strictly sworn

the Israelites, saying, Surely God will be with you, and you must carry my bones away from here with you. [Gen. 50:25.] (20) They journeyed from Succoth and encamped at Etham on the edge of the wilderness. (21) The Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along

the way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night. (22) The pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night did not depart from before

the people.”

The immediate troubles of the Hebrews were over; the troubles of Moses began. He had more vexations with his own people than he had had with his avowed enemies. Human nature asserted itself in the wilderness. In spite of their great deliverance and the mighty evidence of God's favor and of the inspiration of Moses, the people were constantly discontented; they were always on the point of rebellion. The genius for complaining, which is inherently human, found almost daily expression; until the patience of Moses was exhausted.

The shortest distance from Egypt to the Promised Land is considerably less than the distance from Philadelphia to New York; (See Maps, Page 2) so far as miles were concerned, Canaan could have been reached in a week. But Israel was not ready yet to occupy Canaan or indeed any other country, as their behavior in the wilderness abundantly proved.

The Israelites reached Canaan when, and not before, they were, in God’s sight, fit to settle there.

It was perhaps natural that in comparison with the privations and hardships of the wilderness, Egypt looked good; they saw it only in retrospect and, as is frequently the case, the difficulties of the past faded out of the picture, and they remembered only their homes and their regular meals, as indeed a free man will sometimes during a vacation spent in voluntary camping. They complained of the lack of food, so manna rained down from heaven. It covered the ground like a frost, was white to the eye and sweet to the taste. When the people complained of thirst and nearly mobbed Moses, he was divinely ordered to strike a rock, and pure water gushed out.

David’s confession

Amplified Psalms 18:1-50 To the Chief Musician. [A Psalm] of David the servant of the Lord, who spoke the words of this song to the Lord on the day when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said: I LOVE You fervently and devotedly, O Lord, my Strength. (2) The Lord is my Rock, my Fortress, and my Deliverer; my God, my keen and firm Strength in Whom I will trust and take refuge, my Shield, and the Horn of my salvation, my High Tower. [Heb. 2:13.] (3) I will call upon the Lord, Who is to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies. [Rev. 5:12.] (4) The cords or bands of death surrounded me, and the streams of ungodliness and the torrents of ruin terrified me. (5) The cords of Sheol (the place of the dead) surrounded me; the snares of death confronted and came upon me. (6) In my distress [when seemingly closed in] I called upon the Lord and cried to my God; He heard my voice out of His temple (heavenly dwelling place), and my cry came before Him, into His [very] ears. (7) Then the earth quaked and rocked, the foundations also of the mountains trembled; they moved and were shaken because He was indignant and angry. (8) There went up smoke from His nostrils; and lightning out of His mouth devoured; coals were kindled by it. (9) He bowed the heavens also and came down; and thick darkness was under His feet. (10) And He rode upon a cherub [a storm] and flew [swiftly]; yes, He sped on with the wings of the wind. (11) He made darkness His secret hiding place; as His pavilion (His canopy) round about Him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies. (12) Out of the

brightness before Him there broke forth through His thick clouds hailstones and coals of fire. (13) The Lord also thundered from the heavens, and the Most High uttered His voice, amid hailstones and coals of fire. (14) And He sent out His arrows and scattered them; and He flashed forth lightnings and put them to rout. (15) Then the beds of the sea appeared and the foundations of the world were laid bare at Your rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils. (16) He reached from on high, He took me; He drew me out of many waters. (17) He delivered me from my strong enemy and from those who hated and abhorred me, for they were too strong for me. (18) They confronted and came upon me in the day of my calamity, but the Lord was my stay and support. (19) He brought me forth also into a large place; He was delivering me because He was pleased with me and delighted in me. (20) The Lord rewarded me according to my righteousness (my conscious integrity and sincerity with Him); according to the cleanness of my hands has He recompensed me. (21) For I have kept the ways of the Lord and have not wickedly departed from my God. (22) For all His ordinances were before me, and I put not away His statutes from me. (23) I was upright before Him and blameless with Him, ever [on guard] to keep myself free from my sin and guilt. (24) Therefore has the Lord recompensed me according to my righteousness (my uprightness and right standing with Him), according to the cleanness of my hands in His sight. (25) With the kind and merciful You will show Yourself kind and merciful, with an upright man You will show Yourself upright, (26) With the pure You will show Yourself pure, and with the perverse You will show Yourself contrary. (27) For You deliver an afflicted and humble people but will bring down those with haughty looks. (28) For You cause my lamp to be lighted and to shine; the Lord my God illumines my darkness. (29) For by You I can run through a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. (30) As for God, His way is perfect! The word of the Lord is tested and tried; He is a shield to all those who take refuge and put their trust in Him. (31) For who is God except the Lord? Or who is the Rock save our God, (32) The God who girds me with strength and makes my way perfect? (33) He makes my feet like hinds' feet [ able to stand firmly or make progress on the dangerous heights of testing and trouble]; He sets me securely upon my high places. (34) my arms can bend a bow of bronze. (35) You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, and Your right hand has held me up; Your gentleness and condescension have made me great. (36) You have given plenty of room for my steps under me, that my feet would not slip. (37) I pursued my enemies and overtook them; neither did I turn again till they were consumed. (38) I smote them so that they were not able to rise; they fell wounded under my feet. (39) For You have girded me with strength for the battle; You have subdued under me and caused to bow down those who rose up against me. (40) You have also made my enemies turn their backs to me, that I might cut off those who hate me. (41) They cried [for help], but there was none to deliver--even unto the Lord, but He answered them not. (42) Then I beat them small as the dust before the wind; I emptied them out as the dirt and mire of the streets. (43) You have delivered me from the strivings of the people; You made me the head of the nations; a people I had not known served me. (44) As soon as they heard of me, they obeyed me; foreigners submitted themselves cringingly and yielded feigned obedience to me. (45) Foreigners lost heart and came trembling out of their caves or strongholds. (46) The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted, (47) The God Who avenges me and subdues

5

peoples under me, (48) Who delivers me from my enemies; yes, You lift me up above those who rise up against me; You deliver me from the man of violence. (49) Therefore will I give thanks and extol You, O Lord, among the nations, and sing praises to Your name. [Rom. 15:9.] (50) Great deliverances and triumphs gives He to His king; and He shows mercy and steadfast love to His anointed, to David and his offspring forever. [II Sam. 22:2-51.]

[ Message ] Psalms 18:1-50 I love you, GOD-- you make me strong. (2) GOD is bedrock under my feet, the castle in which I live, my rescuing knight. My God--the high crag where I run for dear life, hiding behind the boulders, safe in the granite hideout. (3) I sing to GOD, the Praise-Lofty, and find myself safe and saved. (4) The hangman's noose was tight at my throat; devil waters rushed over me. (5) Hell's ropes cinched me tight; death traps barred every exit. (6) A hostile world! I call to GOD, I cry to God to help me. From his palace he hears my call; my cry brings me right into his presence-- a private audience! (7) Earth wobbles and lurches; huge mountains shake like leaves, Quake like aspen leaves because of his rage. (8) His nostrils flare, bellowing smoke; his mouth spits fire. Tongues of fire dart in and out; (9) he lowers the sky. He steps down; under his feet an abyss opens up. (10) He's riding a winged creature, swift on wind-wings. (11) Now he's wrapped himself in a trenchcoat of black-cloud darkness. (12) But his cloud-brightness bursts through, spraying hailstones and fireballs. (13) Then GOD thundered out of heaven; the High God gave a great shout, spraying hailstones and fireballs. (14) God shoots his arrows--pandemonium! He hurls his lightnings--a rout! (15) The secret sources of ocean are exposed, the hidden depths of earth lie uncovered The moment you roar in protest, let loose your hurricane anger. (16) But me he caught--reached all the way from sky to sea; he pulled me out Of that ocean of hate, (17) that enemy chaos, the void in which I was drowning. (18) They hit me when I was down, but GOD stuck by me. (19) He stood me up on a wide-open field; I stood there saved--surprised to be loved! (20) GOD made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before him. When I got my act together, he gave me a fresh start. (21) Now I'm alert to GOD's ways; I don't take God for granted. (22) Every day I review the ways he works; I try not to miss a trick. (23) I feel put back together, and I'm watching my step. (24) GOD rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to his eyes. (25) The good people taste your goodness, The whole people taste your health, (26) The true people taste your truth, The bad ones can't figure you out. (27) You take the side of the down-and-out, But the stuck-up you take down a peg. (28) Suddenly, GOD, you floodlight my life; I'm blazing with glory, God's glory! (29) I smash the bands of marauders, I vault the highest fences. (30) What a God! His road stretches straight and smooth. Every GOD-direction is road-tested. Everyone who runs toward him Makes it. (31) Is there any god like GOD? Are we not at bedrock? (32) Is not this the God who armed me, then aimed me in the right direction? (33) Now I run like a deer; I'm king of the mountain. (34) He shows me how to fight; I can bend a bronze bow! (35) You protect me with salvation-armor; you hold me up with a firm hand, caress me with your gentle ways. (36) You cleared the ground under me so my footing was firm. (37) When I chased my enemies I caught them; I didn't let go till they were dead men. (38) I nailed them; they were down for good; then I walked all over them. (39) You armed me well for this fight, you smashed the upstarts. (40) You made my enemies turn tail, and I wiped out the haters. (41) They cried "uncle" but Uncle

didn't come; They yelled for GOD and got no for an answer. (42) I ground them to dust; they gusted in the wind. I threw them out, like garbage in the gutter. (43) You rescued me from a squabbling people; you made me a leader of nations. People I'd never heard of served me; (44) the moment they got wind of me they listened. The foreign devils gave up; (45) they came on their bellies, crawling from their hideouts. (46) Live, GOD! Blessings from my Rock, my free and freeing God, towering! (47) This God set things right for me and shut up the people who talked back. (48) He rescued me from enemy anger, he pulled me from the grip of upstarts, He saved me from the bullies. (49) That's why I'm thanking you, GOD, all over the world. That's why I'm singing songs that rhyme your name. (50) God's king takes the trophy; God's chosen is beloved. I mean David and all his children-- always.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit and Speaking in Tongues (Praying with the Spirit)God’s Purpose and plan & Its Connection with Doing the Works of God,

and being Victorious in LifeDr. Don G. Pickney

 1. All that Jesus is, was in the seed of our new birth. John 1:1,14; 1Peter 1:23; 2 Corinthians 5:17,18

Therefore, as He is, so are we in this world. 1John 4:17

(Repeat) “With the New Creation "spirit-being" complete in me, I am as Jesus was when He was born into this earth”.

2. Christ was complete spiritually at his birth, but needed the Holy Spirit’s supernatural power to “enable” him to do the works of God in the earth, and to live victoriously. John 1:32,33; Acts 10:38 Even so,

although we are made spiritually complete at the time of the New Birth, we, too, need the Holy Spirit’s supernatural power to “enable us to do the works of God in the earth, and to live Victoriously. Acts 1:8

3. Jesus knows the mind of the Father God, and thus directs us through the Holy Spirit to do according to His will. Romans 8:26,27

4. Speaking or acting "in the Name of Jesus," denotes a direct representation of something the Holy Spirit has spoken for us to do. If we have not heard the Holy Spirit direct us to do something, as Jesus'

representative, then we do not speak or act. To speak or act "in the Name of Jesus" without the direction of the Holy Spirit, is to speak or act presumptuously. To attempt to do so, is usurping our authority in that Name given, just as Jesus explained why he remained subservient to what He heard His Father say (by the

same Holy Spirit given to Him). John 5:19,30; 12:49,50; John 14:26; 16:13-15;

5. The recreated "inner spirit-man" knows all mysteries and judges all things. 1 Corinthians 2:12-16 Through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, an avenue is given the believer to be able to draw out an enablement:

those mysteries, (hidden knowledge and wisdom) with our spirit, which comes from being born of God's own seed. It doesn’t matter that these thing indwell every believer in Christ, without the enablement of

the Holy Spirit, they remain embedded with us, but have no power for release out of our spirit-being. John 7:38,39; Ezekiel 47:6-9

6. As we pray in the spirit, being given unction (influenced and directed speech) in "other tongues," we draw out the "mysteries." This creates the spiritual foundation for what we say and do at the appropriate time,

as God wills. 1 Corinthians 14:14,15.

7. Additionally, if intelligent understanding is necessary, we are supernaturally given intellectual knowledge of these mysteries ("revelation gifts) word of wisdom, word of knowledge, interpretation of tongues).

Also, as we pray (or speak) with our understanding, that which we have drawn out of the spirit, may also become physical, intellectual understanding for the power gifts (Faith, Healings and Miracles). 1

Corinthians 12:7-10

8. It is by this purpose and plan that we know how to appropriately respond to life's circumstances (both opportunities and adversity), and when, where, and how to do the specific works of God in personal

ministry to which all of us are called to heal the sick, deliver the captives, raise the dead, etc.

10
