H ello, and welcome back
to another school year!
My name is Terri, and I
am your Randall PTSA President
for the 2016-17 school year. I
have served on the Randall
PTSA Executive Committee for
the last 2 years as VP of
Membership and VP of
Activities, and held PTA Board
positions at Bevis Elementary. I
have a 6th grader, Mason, and
an 8th grader, Drew. I am
honored to be Randall’s PTSA
President and, with your
support, will work to provide
our students and staff with what
they need to make this a
successful year.
We have several volunteer
opportunities coming up in
September. Our amazing staff
appreciation team will be
putting together dinner for the
teachers on conference night on
September 8th. Picture day is
on September 15th and the
school will need lots of help to
make sure the kids are ready to
smile for the camera. Book Fair
starts on the 19th and PTSA will
need help with set-up and
during the event. If you are
interested in volunteering
please be sure to fill out your
SERVE form online through the
Hillsborough County Schools
website, and sign up at
www.randallptsa.org to let us
know you are interested in
volunteer opportunities.
On October 5th we will kick off
our PTSA fundraiser so check
with your child to see if they
received their fundraising
packet. We will have many
great choices this year including
cookie dough and other frozen
favorites, giftwrap, and kitchen
gadgets.
I’m looking forward to working
with the PTSA board, Randall
families, and the Randall
Administration and teachers to
help make
sure every
child’s
potential
is a reality.

C alling all Hawk families! Our
Cash Donation Drive needs
you! Our Drive ends on
October 20th. Your donation will
enable us to provide much needed
programs and services for our
children and faculty that simply will
not happen without your support.
100% of your contributions goes
directly back to our students’
academic experience and that is
why it is critical that we receive
your support.
If you haven’t already done so, we
hope you will help us reach our
goal—every dollar makes a
difference! And if you know of a
business, corporation or
organization that would like to
partner with our Hawk family,
please contact Colleen Horan-
Green at 516.695.3647 or by email
at [email protected]. We will
work with all of our corporate
supporters to maximize their brand
visibility within our Hawk

T he students in Randall’s AVID classes are
determined to advance via their own individual
determination. They are learning to believe they
are responsible for their choices and success. They are
destined to succeed.
Even as 7th and 8th graders their passions and dreams
of becoming pediatric surgeons, major league baseball
players, NASA engineers and dancers with the Royal
Ballet, burn brightly behind their middle school
insecurities and awkwardness.
Our mission is to create an opportunity that will serve
as the ember to further ignite their passions in order
that they recognize the potential within and the
possibilities that are ahead.
Our Project
The goal of this project is to help each individual
student recognize the potential that lies within.
Through advancement via individual determination
each student should come to understand that potential
+ passion + perseverance = possibilities. The dreams
they dream can be the future they find. Middle school
is the perfect time to build the foundational blocks that
will pave the way to the destiny of their own creation.
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens readings and
exercises will help these students overcome the
awkwardness of the middle school years and empower
them recognize their own uniqueness and potential
with confidence.
Each of the 7 Habits will be used to augment the
existing AVID curriculum to help my students define
their personal, academic and professional visions
throughout the school year.
Throughout the school year, the students will be
sharing and modeling what they have learned in the
classroom about the 7 Habits in hopes to create a blue
print for success that will permeate our Randall’s entire
student population.
Within one week, we have been able to raise almost
$800 toward our goal of $954.48. In addition, the Bill
and Linda Gates Foundation picked our project and are
willing to match continuing donations until our goal is
met. We have $1 68.00 left to make our goal for the
materials necessary to sustain this project. We thank
everyone who has currently donated and are asking
others to please pass the word regarding this worthy
project. Please log into donorschoose.org to see the
details of our project or contact Lori Bradner
([email protected]) if you have questions.

W elcome to a new
school year!! For those
of you who do not
know what Spirit Nights are, please
let me enlighten you. They are an
evening of NO cooking and
getting a chance to eat at one of
our local restaurants. The local
restaurant is gracious enough to
donate a portion of our sales to
our PTSA. This means that when
you go, please remember to
mention that you are representing
Randall Middle School. We are
very grateful for the local
businesses that support and work
with our schools, so please support
their business by attending the
monthly spirit nights.
Our first spirit night in August at
Jake's Wayback was very
successful. Thanks to all the
families that attended and
supported this event. The Randall
PTSA earned $150.00 from this
event. Great job Hawks!!!

H ere is the important
information for you to be
aware of in September:
1. Welcome back to the new school
year! Please be sure you’re regularly
checking both the student’s Edsby
account as well as the parent’s
account because there is different
information on each of them. Keep in
touch with teachers via email in order
to ensure your children are doing
well. More information can be found
at mySPOT at myspot.sdhc.k12.fl.us
2. Progress reports will be going home
Wednesday 9/7.
3. Conference night is Thursday 9/8
from 5:00 to 7:00 pm so please drop
in on teachers where your children
may be having difficulties.
4. The 1st quarter goes from 8/10 to
10/7. Semester grades are calculated
by a combination of 1st quarter, 2nd
quarter and the semester exam.
5. The last day to order the delicious
popcorn for our fundraiser has been
moved back to 9/13. For more
information, please contact Ms.
Palmer, 6th grade AP.
6. Randall is following the GRIT
philosophy this year which stands for:
1. Give it your all. 2. Redo if
necessary. 3. Ignore giving up. 4.
Take time to do it right. In other
words, Grit is the stubborn refusal to
quit!
7. We are the Randall Hawks and this
year, Hawks stands for Help, Activity,
Walk, Know, and Speak. Ask your
child to explain that to you in detail.
8. You can keep up on the happenings
at Randall through parent links that
are sent out at least weekly by Ms.
Mawhinney, the principal, but you
need to have an email address in our
computer system. You can also get
lots of information through this
newsletter and through Edsby and
through our school’s website at
randall.mysdhc.org and on our
electronic marquee in the front of the
school.
9. Ms. Miller is the 7th grade counselor
and can be reached at
[email protected] or at
740-3900 x255. Ms. Roberts is the 8th
grade counselor and can be reached
at [email protected] or at
740-3900 x233. Ms. Richards is the
6th grade counselor and can be
reached at
[email protected] or at
740-3900 x231. Email is probably the
easiest way to reach the counselors
since they are in and out of their
offices frequently. In the guidance
office we also have Ms. McKenna who
is the Student Success Coach and she
can be reached at
[email protected] or at
740-3900 x235. Also, there is Ms.
Hutchings, the Reading Coach, and
she can be reached at
[email protected] or at 740-3900
x234. Our psychologist is Ms. Sullivan,
and she’s at Randall on Mondays,
Fridays and every other Wednesday.
She can be reached at
[email protected] or at
740-3900 x236. Our social worker is
Dr. Randall, and she’s at Randall on
Tuesdays and Wednesdays. She can
be reached at
[email protected]. We’
re all here to help students succeed
any way we can!
