CUTTING

Cut all pieces, except tail, as indicated on list of pattern pieces, adding 5 mm seam allowances.

 When cutting the inside ear pieces, note theshape of the edge that attaches to the head.

SEWING

Tail: Cut 2 pieces, each measuring 4cm x 9cm,from plaid fabric and fuse them together, wrongsides facing, with double-sided interfacing. Cutdonkey’s tail from the piece without addingseam allowances. Neaten edges of tail withnarrow zigzag or with decorative stitch resem-bling blanket stitch and machine-baste it todonkey’s back panel as marked on pattern.

Torso: Stitch back and stomach pieces together,

right sides facing; make sure to align notches.Turn torso right side out and stuff it firm with

 wadding.

Head: Stitch ear pieces together in pairs, rightsides facing, trim and taper seam allowances at

corners and turn ears right side out. Topstitchedges of ears with narrow zigzag or with deco-

rative stitch resembling blanket stitch. Machine-baste ears to head side panels as marked onpattern. Stitch head center and side panelstogether. Turn head right side out and stuff itfirm with wadding. Fold seam allowance atbottom edge of neck under, pin neck to torsoand sew it securely in place by hand; add

 wadding if necessary before closing opening.

Legs: Stitch floral and plaid leg pieces together in pairs, right sides facing, and leave smallopenings for turning legs right side out. Trimseam allowances and turn legs right side out.Stuff legs with wadding and close openings by hand-stitching. Pin front legs in place as marked

on pattern. Stitch front legs together throughtorso using long needle and attach buttons atthe same time. Attach hind legs in the same

 way.

Finishing: Embroider donkey’s mouth and eyesby hand with even backstitch.

CONTROL SQUAREOn the pattern sheet, there is a control squarethat should measure 2 x 2 inches (5 cm x 5 cm).By means of the square you can check that thepatterns have been printed out at the correctscale. Measure the dimensions of the square onyour print-out. If they are not correct, adjust thepaper size setting to A4 and page scaling to100% (or “none”) on your printer and print outthe patterns again.
