Outside of Patient Room: Healthcare worker PPE donning
1. Perform hand hygieneApply the amount of product
recommended by the manufacturer into
the palm of one hand. Rub hands
together. Cover all surfaces of hands,
fingers, and wrists. Rub until hands are
dry (at least 15 seconds). Soap and water
is an acceptable alternative.
2. Put on PAPR unitTurn on unit. Buckle at waist, then tighten,
and secure belt in clips. Hang hose over
shoulder. If applicable, remove film from
head cover.
3. Put on PAPR head cover (or hood)Connect PAPR hose to head cover/hood.
Pull head cover/hood over head and
adjust so the gray headband wraps
above eyebrows.

Mayo Clinic employees, check website for AGPs requiring respirators
Restrict visitors and limit personnel to only those essential for the procedure.
Doffing set-up in hallway• Bedside table (chux optional)
• Disinfectant wipes
• Hand sanitizer
• Gloves
• Clean PAPR tote
COLD ZONE
Post appropriate sign(s) at door based on procedure.
Ensure PPE is readily available to enter room:

4. Put on gownFully cover torso from neck to knees, arms to end of wrists; snap at neck and tie in back. Secure over PAPR hose and unit.
If larger gown needed for full coverage, obtain disposable gown.
5. Put on glovesExtend to fully cover cuff of gown.
6. Ensure PPE is properly donned before entering patient room.
Close door after entering.

Inside Patient Room, Near Door: Healthcare Worker Doffing
1. Take off glovesGrab below wrist of first glove, pull off and dispose in waste container. Place bare finger under cuff of second glove, pull off and dispose in waste container.Perform hand hygiene
2. Remove gownUntie and unsnap. Roll inside out into a small bundle. Keep away from scrubs to avoid contamination. Place in linen bag. If disposable gown is worn, dispose in waste container.
3. Perform hand hygiene
Exit room to hallway with PAPR on.
4. Close patient door
Perform hand hygiene
• Waste container
• Hand sanitizer
• Linen bag
Prepare doffing area inside doorway of patient room:

1. Establish PAPR cleaning area outside of room
• Bedside table (chux optional)
• Disinfectant wipes
• Hand sanitizer
• Gloves
• Clean PAPR tote
• Waste container
2. Remove PAPR unit
• Unclip PAPR hose from hood by
pinching the purple connectors
• Lay hose on clean table, with or
without chux behind you
• Unbuckle PAPR unit
• Lay unit on clean table
3. Remove PAPR head cover (3a) or hood (3b)In Modified Droplet for AGP the PAPR head cover/hood is cleaned after use.
• Avoid touching front of head cover
• Grab tab below chin and lift back off
of head
• Set on clean table or chux next to
PAPR unit
• Perform hand hygiene
• Place hands between shrouds
• Lean forward and push hood straight
off head
• Set on clean table or chux next to
PAPR unit
• Perform hand hygiene

4. Clean PAPR unit• Put on clean gloves• Turn unit off• Clasp the belt • Wipe battery unit following
disinfectant product wet contact time• Clean the hose from cleanest (near
base of the unit) to dirtiest• Make sure disinfectant product gets
in contact with all surfaces• Place PAPR into clear tote
5. Clean PAPR head cover or hood• Wipe exterior of head cover/hood
with disinfectant• Start at the base of the collar and wipe
around entire exterior of collar• Wipe the back and top of the head piece• Wipe down the face shield• Ensure entire exterior surface of hood
is wiped down and wet contact time is maintained
• Pick up clean PAPR head cover/hood and store in a protected area as determined by work area
6. Discard chux (if used)
In Modified Droplet for AGP, the PAPR head cover/hood is cleaned after use
7. Don universal mask (and eye protection, if needed).
8. Mayo Clinic employees, check webpage to determine how long to leave up signage.
