McCoy plans to present the evidence to the grand jury. “Small Town Sexy” author Kim Huston will be the guest speaker for the 2012 LaRue County Chamber of Commerce Annual Meeting May 10. “She will speak on the allure of living in small town America,” said LaRue County Chamber of Commerce Director Jessica Davis, “and I believe residents of LaRue County can defi- nitely relate to that.” Huston, a Bardstown resident, formerly of Bloomfield, writes in her book about the offerings of a small town while capturing the charm that small com- munities display. “We are really excited for her to speak,” said Davis. “I’m sure it will be very entertaining.” The cost to attend is $25 per person or $15 for children 12 and under and includes din- ner, the meeting and an awards presentation. A silent auction will also be held during the event. According to Davis several items including gift cards, centerpieces and LaRue County memorabilia will be up for bid. In conjunction with the event “ a very excit- ing complimentary pic- ture will be taken,” said Davis. “To see what that photo will look like people can stop by the cham- ber office. There is an exam- ple in the display window.” Several awards will be given and a graduation cere- mony for LaRue County Leadership LaRue par- ticipants will also be held that evening. “We are very excited because this is one of our largest Leadership classes,” said Davis. LCHS greenhouse open to public This year’s production in the LaRue County High School agriscience greenhouse has been a huge success story. The season opening was April 16 and sales have been strong since then. The community has traditionally rallied to support the efforts of local high school stu- dents by purchasing the vast array of bedding plants and a great selec- tion of high quality hanging baskets in the area. Equally impressive to Misty Bivens, the Greenhouse Technology teacher, has been the assistance given by numerous student vol- unteers. They provide personalized service to every customer who vis- its the greenhouse. Students from the greenhouse class answer questions about individ- ual plant characteristics and manage the check- out table. Other stu- dents from classes less specialized in the area of floriculture, help by car- rying plants, watering and assisting with prod- uct display. The greenhouse is open 8-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday through the end of the school year. Extended hours will be available Saturday, May 12 for Mother’s Day. There is a large selec- tion of most plants available, but support- ers should hurry for best selection. In addition to the standard cell packs and hanging baskets, the school-based enter- prise also has some rather unusual offer- ings. There are a wide variety of hanging bas- kets, 10- and 12-inch baskets of vining super- tunias, vegetable crops and a wide variety of traditional bedding plants. Many plants were grown especially for Mother’s Day gifts. There will be specials as the school year will come to a close, but the best plants are available now. They include dis- counts on select hanging baskets, wave petunias and geraniums in 4.5- inch pots. This year there is a new service being offered to customers. Many people have a favorite pot that they use for their plants, but trying to fill that pot can be a burden or they’ve purchased a pot in the past that they want to re-use. This year you can have your pot filled for you for $5 to $15, plus the cost of the plants, cost varies due to pot size. There is a menu of plants avail- able. You can have this done while you wait or you can drop your pot off and pick it up later. This is a new way to help customers recycle or re-use their favorite planter. Delivery to businesses or workplaces in Hodgenville is available for $3. This may be especial- ly helpful for people who forget to get a Mother’s Day gift. You can call, fax or e- mail an order.
