Whether it’s a cramped, 450-square-foot studio or a teeny nook-turned-home of- fice, it just got a little easier to play up every inch when it comes to furnishings. Resource Furniture, a new 1,800-square-foot emporium in San Francisco, offers a long list of multifunctional, double- duty items for small spaces. Founded 15 years ago by Ron Barth and Steve Spett, the company has stores in Los Angeles, New York, Toronto, Mexico City and Calgary, Al- berta. “Due to the rapidly evolving housing market and astonishing demand for space in the region, opening a show- room in San Francisco was the next logical step,” says compa- ny president Barth. “The Bay Area is filled with people who really understand the concept of living smarter.” In the clean-lined space, examples of these multipur- pose pieces include the Tango sofa available with various configurations (three cushions, four cushions, or sectional and sliding seats for lounging); the Cristallo coffee table that can be converted into a dining table; and modern wall bed systems by Italian manufac- turer Clei with high-tech mechanisms. Other finishing touches include handwoven area rugs made in Denmark; and wallpa- per that Norwegian designer Tom Haga based on photo- graphs of concrete and raw cinder block in locations throughout Norway. The prod- uct is intended to mimic the real thing. The company also offers interior design services. “We provide a holistic ap- proach to creating smaller footprints by not only offering multifunctional furniture, but also by space planning and working with clients to rethink how they can best use their space,” says Barth.
