Double page spread analysis

This double page spread is about a recent tour which NME are doing, so this is an advertisement for

them as well as a feature in there magazine. Throughout the feature NME big up the event by

making it sound fun and amazing which therefore would attract people to the tour. They’ve asked

each act/artist that is in the tour a question about the tour, this then would make people who are

attending feel connected to the artists as they are looking into things they’ve said. They have used

the same colours throughout the spread, pink, white, black and grey. They all tend to be innocent

colours which could mean that the tour is of an innocent feel, where people only go to enjoy the

music no violence or things like that, so the colours then suggest this to the audience that the tour is

to have fun and enjoy the performances. They have used a similar font style throughout the spread

which therefore keeps everything connected, alternating between 3-4 fonts so it’s not all the same.

The titles are all big and bold. The two titles at the top both contrast each other as well as the

background colour. ‘upfront’ is in a large bold white font, this contrasts the background because it’s

all dark so it stands out more, but on the opposite side the font is large and in black, this once again

contrasts the background on that page because it is white therefore making them both stand out the

most on their individual page. The magazine could attract both male and female audiences because

of the different colours so it relates to them both; it’s more about what music you like than the sex

you are. It could attract the reader to read this section because of the contrasting colours and the

range of artists which are featured so will attract many people, therefore this double page spread

could attract many readers.

This contents page represents the rest of the magazine as it is in the same house style, I know this

because the font is in a similar style throughout the magazine so it blends in and fits well, this

therefore helps keep the magazine flowing without a specific page standing out. The colours which

have been used in the contents page are once again similar to the rest of the magazine as the

contents page is what leads onto the rest of the magazine. The similar colours once again show that

the house style is continued throughout the whole magazine. The contents page is what tells the

audience what is being featured in the magazine and on what pages any particular stories are on.

The image in the centre of the page is what attracts the most attention because it’s the biggest

image in the centre, the story for this is an award which NME is doing, therefore promoting their

own things. There is also a subscription available on the bottom right so once again advertising

themselves which is in the same place in every one of their magazines. Also the big title on the top

attracts a lot of attention telling the audience what is being featured on that page. There is a large

number next to each image on the contents page, this makes it easier for the audience to quickly get

to a specific story or article, and there is also a quote from the article under each picture which

therefore would attract the audience to a feature which would interest them. There is also a smaller

row of stories underneath all the photos which involve smaller scale stories which are featured in

the magazine with a page number therefore making it even easier for the readers to navigate

around the magazine.
