Budget Creative budgeting Generous classroom teacher allocations Money for professional development

opportunities available Resources to support tutoring programs

New budget cutting Para time and counselor hours, as well as interventionist hours

Negatively affecting staff morale

Page 24: Douglass Valley Elementary

Discipline Clear school-wide behavior expectations Behavior expectations taught in all areas of building

multiple times throughout the year Strong PBIS team with consistent meetings

Staff feels admin discipline actions are inconsistent/arbitrary

Distinction between office v classroom managed behaviors are unclear

Teachers would like more behavior management training

Page 25: Douglass Valley Elementary

Parental Involvement Strong core volunteer group and PTO Multiple family fun night activities Bi-monthly newsletter/correspondence

Deployed family members inhibit parental involvement

Growing lower SES population-have led to decrease in parental involvement

High mobility rate

Page 26: Douglass Valley Elementary

Student Achievement Adequate observed growth for 2011 in Reading

Writing and Math Intensive Literacy and Math Support Progress monitoring weekly for struggling students Piloting standards based report cards

Very little vertical team collaboration Teachers rarely using data to drive instruction Teachers need more training on use of assessment

results

Page 27: Douglass Valley Elementary

School Climate Clean and inviting facility Excellent staff overall Unique military setting and support for

military families

Teachers not collaborating Complaints of favoritism Generational divide amongst staff

Page 28: Douglass Valley Elementary

Rationale

Scantron is a valuable assessment when used with fidelity by teachers to drive their instruction. Student involvement with Scantron through goal setting and self-monitoring can increase student motivation, which can lead to buy-in and improved achievement

Page 29: Douglass Valley Elementary

SMART Goal Increase Reading and Math SCANTRON

scores from 61% to 75% and 46% to 60% respectively, by improving school climate as reflected in PBIS SAS survey and School Climate survey.
