Clinical Lab Downtime for Nursing Units and Emergency Department 4 Hour Downtime Procedure - Modified Retrieval of laboratory results that were ordered prior to the downtime will be available in the HOST system. The Laboratory should not be called for history results. During downtime the laboratory will fax all test results to the Patient’s unit identified on the patient label found on the laboratory request form. All critical values will be called directly to the unit. Core Lab (1-2120) Blood Bank (1-2731) and Microbiology (1-2807) will be answering their phones as usual. Communication needs to be limited to urgent or emergent requests. 10:00 PM, For Scheduled Downtime Date Please limit testing submitted during Cerner downtime to Urgent or Emergent requests. Patient labels for Inpatients and Emergency Room Patients must accompany any specimen submitted for testing during the downtime. The number of labels needed depends on the number of tests ordered, but 6 per patient submission would be an average number to use. These Labels will be used along with the requisition to identify where to fax the results. Patients transferred to another unit require that the Lab be notified and a new set of labels must be sent to the lab. How to Print Patient Labels from Forms on Demand 1. Click once on the Forms on Demand icon. 2. Enter your Citrix username and password —then click OK. 3. Enter the patient’s 13-digit account number then click SEARCH. 4. Insure the correct patient information is displayed and click CONTINUE. 5. Select the patient’s nursing unit location. 6. Select the box to the right of the screen that lists Labels. 7. Ensure that the printer box to the bottom left of the screen is set to the unit your patient is on. 8. Select PRINT. *Note: The Forms on Demand Quick Reference Guide can be found at: http://hi.georgiahealth.edu/CIS/pdf/FormsOnDemandQuickReferenceCard_1.pdf Important note: during downtimes, the lab will not accept requests to add on tests for specimens that are already in the lab unless the specimen is either from a blood volume compromised patient (like the little peds patients) or the sample itself is irretrievable. A new specimen will need to be collected. The Pathology Collection Manual is available on the web at http://hi.georgiahealth.edu/pathology for use by the units during downtime when there are questions about collection tubes or test volumes or reference ranges.
