Presidents Message January 2015

A new year is upon us. With it comes hope and the optimism of starting a New Year fresh.

I am encouraged that as a club we have been around for almost 65 years. This year is the first in several that we have a full slate of officers and we are busy planning a fun and active year.

As a board member we look to make several changes this year starting with plans for a license class. We will also be scheduling one activity per month for the entire year. Many months are already booked with our various public service events. For those that aren’t booked we are planning a trip to a local lighthouse, T-hunt and participating as a club in one of the many HF contests, either from the EOC or one of our member’s home stations. A Club picnic trip to the Maritime Museum or silent auction are also being considered. Please email me with your thoughts and sug-gestions for fun club activities.

We already have our guest speakers planned for the first part of the year with Scott, N6MI presenting at the January meeting about all day T-hunting, Bill from HRO will be speaking in February, March will be Gene, WB9COY talking about Yaesu’s new digital format, April has Dave, N6HD slated to speak about ARES and the rest of the year is filling in quickly.

Some of the other things we have slated for this year are:

Become more involved with emergency preparedness by reaching out to our local CERT members which includes many DARC members.

Have presentations by ARES and DCS regarding Ham opportunities. Review, document and repair as needed the Ham stations at the Police Department and EOC. Send invitations to newly licensed Hams to join in our club and activities. Keep our web page current with activities and opportunities. (Thanks Rick, KD6KHJ)

On the topic of the web page did you know you can type downeyham.com in most browsers and it will take you directly to our page? It is much easier to remember and easy to share.

Several folks have asked about the status of our repeater on Downey PIH. The current status is we are wait-ing on final approval from the Hospital to reinstall. They had to have some reverse engineering work done and improve the quality of some of the older existing antenna systems to complete their roofing project. We have been assured our installs were of acceptable quality and we are now looking at March to be back on the air from there.

I hope you had a wonderful Holiday season and look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.

73, Dave N6TEB

General Meeting Minutes

December 4, 2014

President Dave Glenn, N6TEB, brought the meeting to order at 1930 hours with 19 people in attendance. We commenced with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Dave. Then, Dave asked each person in attendance to intro-duce themselves'.

Business:

Dave introduced a motion to completely fill our organization's Board of Directors by having Kent Savage, K6WCI, vacate his position of Director for Two Years, and accept Paul Metzger, K6EH, for this position. Next to have Kent Savage, K6WCI, to accept the position of Vice President of Programs. The motion was accepted and the vote was unanimous to accept for Paul and Kent

Kent then handed out two Certificates of Appreciation to those that were unable to attend our annual luncheon in November. One to John Powell, KF6EOJ, for Q5 Editor, and one to Paul Metzger, K6EH, for Repeater Sup-port and Maintenance..

Since this was our annual Christmas party an extended break was taken to enjoy all of the "goodies" brought for the party, We all left with a "Sugar High".

Dave Glenn then adjourned the meeting at 2035 hours.

Respectfully submitted, Ron Eveland W6QM
