We are here to encourage and inspire volleyball teams nationwide who are united

in their goal to fund game-changing cancer research and show their support for

patients. This guide walks you through the process of hosting a Dig Pink® event.

From setting a goal to writing a “thank you” note, the details are in the toolkit!

Thank you for taking the first step.

“ We want our players to have an impact beyond the courts, for them to be role models for athletes of all sports. Coaches and players working with The Side-Out Foundation through its Dig Pink® events are given the opportunity to do just that; they impact the lives of breast cancer

patients through the sport that they love.”

“I think it’s amazing what these girls have done. This cause is really dear to me. I lost my mom to breast cancer, so any way that I can be involved or participate in raising awareness for this cause is really important to me.”

A Dig Pink® campaign is most successful when the entire community is involved. You can include team-

mates, parents, students, faculty, local businesses, school clubs, marketing/business classes and teams from

other schools. The more people you involve, the more support you have to reach your event’s goals! Don’t

be afraid to ask for help from coaches, fellow students and your community. Delegate different tasks and

split up the work so everyone plays a part in making the event successful.

These are merely suggestions; choose whatever works best for your team, school and community,

and make it special.

FIND YOUR FUNDRAISING FIT

WATCH YOUR $ GROW!UTILIZE OUR FUNDRAISING TOOL TO RAISE MONEY QUICKLY AND EASILY!If each player on a 12 member team asks 10 people

to give $10, the total is $1,200. If each member

asks 10 people to give $20, the total is $2,400!

And these totals are before any event has even

taken place!

To utilize our fundraising tool CLICK HERE.

MAXIMIZE YOUR FUNDRAISING WITH MATCHING DONATIONS

Encourage your donors to ask if their employers

have matching gift programs.

Many companies will give donations to match what

the employee has given, thereby doubling your

donation! Some companies will even give double the

donation the employee gave, thus tripling the

original donation!

When donors give online, the confirmation screen

includes a section at the bottom where they can

type in their company’s name to see if it offers a

matching gift program. If it does, they simply have

to follow the prompts. Donors don’t have to donate

online to receive a matching donation though...

as long as they have a receipt that confirms their

donation, they can submit it to their company

with whatever paperwork their company requires.

To see if a company offers matching donations,

visit side-out.org/matching-donation-finder/.

EMAIL Dear (Insert name),

Each year, tens of thousands of volleyball players, coaches and families across the country join together to participate in The Side Out Foundation’s Dig Pink® Rally.

In an effort to bring more awareness and funding for stage 4 (metastatic) breast cancer, my volleyball team is working with The Side-Out Foundation. On (Insert date), we are hosting a Dig Pink® event to benefit Side-Out, and we need your support!

Help us reach our goal of (Insert goal amount) by donating to our Dig Pink® Rally campaign page (Insert link). If you are in town for the event, come on out and watch us play, and don’t forget to wear your pink!

Side-Out is the only charity using the power and teamwork of the volleyball community to beat cancer. Only 2 percent of breast cancer research funding goes toward metastatic cancer which makes their focus on stage 4 unique and very important.

Thank you for helping me give hope to patients and their families!

Sincerely,(Insert your name)

FOLLOW THROUGHKEEP THEM POSTEDMost people don’t give the first time you tell them

about a fundraiser. It’s your job to remind them!

• Send follow-up emails, detailing your progress.

Make sure you include a link to your

campaign page!

• Take pictures and videos of you and your team

as you move forward in event planning and

fundraising, and share these on social media

• Post facts about metastatic breast cancer on

your social media pages, and always link to your

fundraising page to remind people of your goal

THANK YOUR DONORS!

• No matter the donation amount, all donors

deserve a “thank you” note. Email and social

media is always an option, but a letter in the

mail is even better. Feel free to use the

template here, and add personal touches to

make it special

• Create a short “thank you” video with your team

and share it with each donor

Dear (Insert name),

On behalf of (Insert school and team name) and The

Side-Out Foundation, we would like to thank you for

your donation received on (Insert donation receipt

You are in the extraordinary position of slowing the progress of

stage 4 (metastatic) breast cancer and improving the way all

cancers are treated.

Stage 4 breast cancer is the most advanced form of the disease,

yet it is the least funded area of research (approximately 2% of

funds raised for breast cancer research goes toward metastatic

studies). The Side-Out Protocol is a major advancement in the

field, and volleyball is responsible for all of it!

IMPACT

“Thanks to The Side-Out Foundation, my mother-in-law is

receiving cutting edge treatment for her stage 4 breast cancer, &

covering costs that her insurance won’t. We need more funding for

metastatic breast cancers!”
