    The London School of Commerce campuses arecentrally located within easy reach all of Londonspremier attractions. The main campus is located near toLondon Bridge Station ensuring excellent transport linksto the National Rail network and London Underground.There are major support campuses within walkingdistance in nearby Elephant and Castle and Southwark.

    Travel

    Getting around London is not a problem. Theunderground system is an easy way to travel and trainsrun from about 5am to midnight. Buses run regularlythroughout the day, with a 24 hour service on

    selected routes.

    The Master of Business Administration (MBA) attractspeople from a wide range of academic disciplines. The UKMBA programmes typically consist of a set number oftaught courses plus the Major Project. The core courses inthe MBA programme are designed to introduce students tothe various areas of business such as Accounting, Finance,Marketing, Human Resource Management and StrategicManagement. Students on the MBA programme also havea choice of options allowing them to specialise in nance,marketing or international business.

    Students will be registered with Cardiff MetropolitanUniversity throughout the programme. While the entirecourse can be completed in London, students also havethe option of completing the nal semester at other LSCGroup campuses in Asia and Europe.

    The MSc programme in International TourismManagement is designed to enable students todevelop concepts and theories relating to internationaltourism management, stimulate critical thinking andthe use of multi-disciplinary perspectives to transformmanagement problems into opportunities. The design ofthis course is such that research forms a key part of theprogramme in order to encourage students to develop anevidence-based approach to reective practice.

    The tourism industry accounts for 10 percent ofemployment worldwide.     } A Masters degree relevant to the proposedresearch project from a recognised university.

    Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

    PhDs are awarded for the development of new theorythrough original research. PhD candidates are requiredto undertake training in research methods, to attendresearch seminars and to design and implementresearch to enable them to generate signicant newknowledge in their subject area. This research is

    presented in a thesis not exceeding 100,000 words andthe student must satisfy the examiners in a vivavoce examination.

    Professional Doctorate

    The Professional Doctorate programme focuses on thedevelopment of new professional practice. It aims toenable students to make a signicant contribution totheir chosen eld by developing new applied knowledge.Students develop a high level of subject expertise andprofessional knowledge and take this knowledge furtherthrough work-based, applied research.

    The Professional Doctorate is more structured than thePhD programme and comprises of taught modules inaddition to the research project.

    In order to embark on a professional doctoratethe applicant needs to have access to a business,

    professional or public sector organisation in which theycan undertake the research project.

    Course Schedule

    While the Doctoral programme is focused on individualresearch and learning, students are required to attend aresearch methods course and a monthly seminar. Theyare also required to meet with their Research Supervisorevery two weeks to review their progress and theirDirector of Studies bimonthly.

    Course Assessment

    The award of a PhD qualication is based onacceptance of the nal dissertation and satisfactoryperformance in a viva voce examination.

    Degree Award

    Students will be registered with Cardiff MetropolitanUniversity throughout the programme.

    Library

    The College library stock comprises of both a loan andreference collection of all core texts plus recommendedreading. The collection on study skills and researchmethodologies is highly recommended. Both print andonline resources are available to help students withtheir studies. These include peer-reviewed academic

    journals, Datamonitor Reports (a source of premiumglobal information on companies) and over 40,000electronic books. There is a separate online databaseof the prescribed core texts. The leading UK dailynewspapers are also in stock in hard copy. There aresubsidised photocopying facilities and unlimited accessto the internet.

    Computer Facilities

    The Computer Laboratory is equipped with the latestterminals and students have free access to theInternet and e-mail facilities (academic purposes only).The School also provides initial practical training forstudents.

    Student Common Rooms

    For relaxation and recreation, our main campuses haveStudent Common Rooms. The basement at ChaucerHouse also offers a comfortable seating area forstudents. All our campuses have WiFi facilities. Notice

    boards are situated in the Common Rooms and aroundthe School displaying information of interest to allstudents including details of school trips, sports daysand parties, as well as important deadlines and contactnumbers of staff.

    Counselling Services

    LSC provides a student counselling service which givespractical help and advice on both academic and non-academic issues. This team includes AdministrativeSupport Staff whose role is to help with concerns suchas visa and registration matters.

    Training Workshops

    Students on the BA Business Studies course are invitedto attend a management training workshop. Studentsare divided into groups and are coached in skills such asteam work, creativity, corporate presentations, timemanagement, leadership, problem solving andnegotiation. These events present students with a morepractical approach to learning very different from themethodology adopted in a classroom environment. Inaddition, the programme provides them with anopportunity to expand their social and life skills, bondwith other students and make new friends.

    All students participating in these interactive workshopswill have the chance to acquire leadership skills, make

    investment decisions, hone their time management,negotiating techniques and develop greater businessacumen.

    In short, the management training workshop is not tobe missed and is an event that is guaranteed to leavean indelible mark in the minds of the students. Studentfeedback from these events is consistently andoverwhelmingly positive.

    Sporting Activities

    LSC organises various sporting events such as footballand cricket. Students have the opportunity to play

    Cricket at competitive level against other Institutions inthe national university leagues.

    The LSC Cricket Team have been regional BritishUniversities and Colleges Sports league championstwo years running and have even played matchesinternationally.

    Student Academic Requirements

    Attendance

    The School undertakes constant monitoring of

    student attendance at lectures on a daily basis.Weekly percentage attendance gures are availablefor each student to inspect online. The Schoolrequires attendance of at least 80% of classes. TheStudent Visa, issued by the Home Ofce of the BritishGovernment, is granted on the proviso that you areattending a full-time course at LSC. Therefore,non-attendance of lectures means not complying withthe conditions under which the visa was issued.

    In the event of non-compliance of attendanceregulations, the School will inform the sponsorsand parents of the erring student. Furthermore, theUKBA and the visa-issuing High Commission will be

    informed of the attendance record. Also, there is adirect correlation between examination pass rates andattendance at lectures. If a students attendance isunsatisfactory, he/she will be barred from sitting for theSchools examination or will eventually be terminatedfrom the programme.

    Assessments

    Students must submit all the relevant assignments ontime and deadlines will not be extended. Students mustattend classes and sit for all the examinations.

    Deferments/Changes of Course

    Students cannot change course or defer the semesterwithout prior written authorisation of LSC.

    Laptop/Computer

    The student should budget as part of his/her expensesto buy a laptop/personal computer prior to thecommencement of the course.

    Textbooks

    The student should budget as part of his/her expenses

    to buy the recommended core textbooks for all coursemodules prior to the commencement of the course.

    Fee Payments

    Your course fee includes all costs associated with your

    recruitment and admission and the cost of your tuitionfee. When students are paying fees by instalmentthey must comply with the instalment arrangementspertaining to their course. Deadline dates are set forthe balance of fee payments, which must be met bystudents in order to enable them to progress throughtheir studies. The School fees are not refundable ortransferable under any circumstances. In the event ofabsenteeism or failure in an examination, the studentwill be required to pay the appropriate resit examinationfees which prevail at the time.

    What is the average cost of living in London asan International student? London is a reasonablypriced city offering good quality affordable living andabundant accommodation. Students will need of 800 -1000 a month to cover living expenses. This includesaccommodation, food and transportation. This may varydepending on your budget for rent, food, transport andleisure activities.

    Are Student Visas difcult to obtain?No. If you satisfy the Tier 4 Entry Requirements, havesufcient funds to cover the cost of study and livingexpenses and are able to demonstrate your bonadestudent status, you should have no difculty inobtaining a student visa.

    Can I give the fee deposit draft to the SchoolRepresentative? Normally students are required topay a deposit prior to enrolment. Your offer letter willmention the details as regards to the payment of thisdeposit. Fee deposits should be paid by way of BankersDraft made payable to the London School of Commerce.

    Can I defer or change my course after my arrivalin London? Students will not be allowed to defer orchange the course in London, after an offer letter and

    CAS letter have been issued by the London School ofCommerce.

    Admission and Application Process

    Students are advised to apply well in advance of thecourse commencement date as courses tend to be

    oversubscribed. Adequate time should be allowed forthe processing of the visa application, conrmation ofaccommodation and other formalities.

    To gain admission to degree courses conductedat LSC, the following documents are required:

    } Completed application form duly signedby the applicant

    } Copies of relevant ofcial educationalcerticates and transcripts (translated andattested by an authorised representativeor notary public)

    } Minimum overall IELTS score of 6.0with at least 5.5 in all other componentsor equivalent recognised qualication.

    } Curriculum Vitae (CV) in the case of matureapplicants, with details of work experience

    } Details of two referees, of which at least oneshould be an academic referee.

    As part of the application process, LSC will conductinterviews with each student.

    In the rst instance, prospective students will beinterviewed by a local marketing ofcer. The studentwill then be interviewed separately by a senior staffmember to ensure their suitability for the course.(Interviews will be carried out orally either in person,over the telephone, or through other communicationmethods).

    Please Note: Receipt of application does notautomatically guarantee a place at LSC. LSC reservesthe right to decline the offer of a place if the candidatedoes not meet specied requirements at the time ofapplication.

    Country Specic Bursaries/Scholarships

    The School offers bursaries/scholarships for studentsfrom certain countries from time to time. Please contactthe School for further details.

    Conrmation of Admission/Fee Instalments

    If a student has received an offer of admission fromLSC, they are expected to conrm their acceptance byway of paying the tuition fee deposit within 28 daysfrom the date of offer. Admission will not be conrmedif the deposit is not paid.

    Conrmation of Acceptance of Study (CAS)

    Once an offer letter has been received and theappropriate deposit has been paid, then studentsrequiring a Visa can apply for a CAS letter in order toprogress their UK Student Visa application.The balance of fees, after deduction of the deposit canbe paid in instalments as specied in the offer letter.The rst instalment will be prior to the end of the rstsemester examinations/assignments and will continueevery semester in the same manner.

    Refund of Tuition Fees

    LSCs refund policy is as below:

    a) Fees will be refunded in full, if the studentsapplication is declined by LSC.

    b) In the case of overseas students, if thestudents visa is refused, all fees will berefunded in full.

    c) In the case of overseas students, once astudent has obtained a visa, but does notcommence the course, 1,650 of the initialdeposit paid will not be refunded. Any depositspaid in excess of 1,650 may be refunded atthe sole discretion of the School.

    d) Once the student has commenced the course,fees will not be refunded.

    Accommodation in London

    If they wish, Students are free to arrange their ownaccommodation while studying at the London School of

    Commerce (LSC), and LSC does provide accommodationoptions and support.

    Care is taken to meet the requirements of all students.The college has an associated accommodation providerand comprehensive advice will be given. Approvedproperties are inspected and regularly monitored toensure the highest standards are maintained.

    All recommended student houses and accommodationare in residential areas of South London with easyaccess to the School. Approximate travelling time is30-45 minutes direct into London Bridge, the averagecommute time within London.

    The following examples of available accommodation aregiven as a guide only:

    Homestay

    Homestay is a popular choice for students on rst arrivalin London. Our Homestay providers are very friendlyand can help students orientate themselves. Homestayis suitable for students who want a lot of contact withtheir host. Students will have a single or shared studybedroom and shared washing facilities. Homestayincludes bed, breakfast, main evening meal and fullmeals at weekends. Students will also have laundry

    facilities, normally once a week although there may be asmall charge for this. The price includes all bills, but bearin mind that the student is living in someone elses homeand should respect their rules.

    Shared Student Flats and Houses

    Shared student ats and houses are suitable forstudents who want more independence. You will havea single or shared study bedroom with shared cookingand washing facilities. Bedding packs are available forpurchase. These include a new duvet, pillow, sheet,duvet cover and pillowcase. There will often be acommunal living area but not always. Many of thestudent houses and ats have internet access andstudent rooms that will have a study area comprisingof a study table and a chair. Students will be entirelyindependent, cooking and cleaning for themselves. Youwill normally be sharing with other students from yourschool, but you can request to stay with friends. Theprice includes all bills (up to a maximum amount per

    student).
