(AMIA 10x10) • Limited to 35 VA students per session- application required

• Targeted toward staff in leadership roles

• Interactive web-based course that hosts faculty-led modules and

assignments that include readings, discussion boards, papers, and

a final project

• Time commitment: 8-10 hours per week for 6 months

Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and

Management Systems (CPHIMS) Prep Course

• VA facilitated a limited number of seats for the “Preparing for

Success in Healthcare Information and Management Systems: The

CPHIMS Review Course” to prepare students to sit for the exam

• Students given access to nine eLearning modules and four

instructor-led webinars

Clinical Informatics Board Review Course (CIBRC)

• Intended for Veterans Health Administration (VHA) physicians

practicing in an informatics role & interested in becoming board

certified in Clinical Informatics

• The VHA funded a limited number of physicians to take an online

CIBRC and practice examination

• Time commitment: approximately 24 hours total

• Number enrolled through 2015: 158

Bridging the Informatics Knowledge Gap The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is working towards reducing identified educational gaps and sustaining a

competent workforce capable of developing, evaluating, and implementing systems. The Workforce Development Team

has packaged training plans and crafted programs of various levels in an effort to provide a foundation of knowledge in a

clear, concise and accessible format. Freely available Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of the

National Coordinator (ONC) content is utilized as a platform to deliver education to multiple disciplines within the health

informatics technology (HIT) field. The ONC content is leveraged in multiple offerings in order to provide healthcare staff

and informatics professionals the knowledge necessary to ultimately improve health care quality, safety, and cost-

effectiveness across domains. Workforce Development recognizes the importance of not only offering courses across

disciplines, but also across agencies to achieve shared goals and benefits of current practices and research.
