Download  Stykz  from  h6p://stykz.net/downloads/  or  ask  Mrs.  Swain  to  AirDrop  it  to  you!  

Make  sure  all  of  your  windows  are  on  display…  

Use  the  line  tool  to  create  a  simple    right-­‐angled  triangle.    

Change  the  line  weight  to  1  and  the  colour  to  the  same  colour  that  you  want  your  triangle  to  be.  

Use  this  tool  to  select  the  anchor  points.    It  will  fill  the  shape  with  colour.    Change  the  colour  so  it  matches  the  line.  

Click  “Next  Frame”    You  now  have  two  frames  at  the  bo6om.    

While  your  in  the    second  frame,  change  the  angle  of    the  triangle  to  20.    

ConSnue  to  add  new  frames  and    change  the  angle  by  20  degrees    unSl  your  triangles  have  turned  all  the  way  back  to  the  posiSon  of    the  first  one.    

This  has  completed  Part  1-­‐  the  movement  of  the  single  triangle  in  a  circle  from  a  single    point-­‐  the  first  part  of  my  example.        Click  PLAY  to  see  it  work.            Now  to  create  Part  2-­‐  The  triangles  build  on  top  of  one  another  to  create  the  circle…  

Click  on  the  second  to  last  frame.    “Right  Click”  /  “Control”  +  Click  and  copy  triangle  in  that  frame.  

Paste  the  triangle  onto  the  last  frame.  It  will  look  like  this-­‐  two  triangles.  

Click  “New  Slide.”  You  will  see  that  the  two  triangles  are  in  the  new  slide.      You  can  now  go  to  slide  before  the  last  one  you  copied,  and  repeat  the  process.    ConSnue  to  add  new  slides  and  copy  the  previous  triangles  unSl  you  have  something    that  looks  like  this…  

This  has  completed  Part  2-­‐  the  triangles  build  on  top  of  one  another  to  create  the  circle.        Click  PLAY  to  see  it  work.            Now  to  create  Part  3-­‐  The  circle  disappears  and  ends  with  the  original  triangle…    

This  part  is  very  easy.    Simply  add  a  “New  Slide”    and  delete  the  triangle  aZer    the  original  one.    Then  keep  adding  new  slides    and  with  every  new  slide    remove  another  triangle.    UnSl  you  have  only  your    original  triangle  leZ.    

This  has  completed  Part  3-­‐  The  circle  disappears  and  ends  with  the  original  triangle.          Click  PLAY  to  see  it  work.        Save  your  animaSon  as  a  Stykz  file  so  you  can  conSnue  to  work  on  it.    When  you’re  finished,  export  it  as  a  movie.        

Go  to  h6p://www.mrsswainsartclass.com/tutorials.html  to  see  the  example  video.          Now  that  you  know  how  to  do  these  simple  animaSons  with  just  one  shape,  you  can  apply    the  same  methods  to  more  complicated  versions.  To  extend…  -­‐  add  more  shapes  -­‐  allow  the  shapes  to  “snake”  around  the  frame  -­‐  change  the  colours  of  each  triangle  through  the  colour  spectrum  so  that  the  colour  

changes  gradually.  -­‐  use  just  colour  changes  so  that  shapes  “flash.”  -­‐  Make  smaller  adjustments  to  achieve  a  smoother  movement.  

Remember…  -­‐  don’t  make  it  too  complicated  too  soon-­‐  start  simple.  -­‐  make  movements  and  changes  small  from  frame  to  frame  to  keep  the  moSon  

smooth.
